  1. Post update

Aged 17 years and 96 days, Gordon became the second-youngest goalscorer in Liverpool's history.

Ben Woodburn (17 years, 45 days) is still the youngest. He scored against Leeds in November 2016.

Woodburn, now 22 is currently on loan at Hearts, having last played for the Reds' first-team in May 2018.

  2. Klopp praises youngster Gordon

Kaide Gordon made a real impression yesterday.

In only his second Liverpool appearance, the 17-year-old levelled the score to settle a few nerves in the home dugout after Daniel Udoh's opener for Shrewsbury.

After the game, Klopp had some nice things to say about Gordon.

"It was a brilliant goal from Kaide Gordon. He was really calm and composed. His main strength is his finishing.

"All credit to our Academy that they produce these boys but we had no other line-up available to us.

"We had five young players out there. They all did well. We knew we could play better football and we did second half.

  3. Covid outbreak was 'a lot of false positives' - Klopp

Speaking after beating Shrewsbury, Jurgen Klopp said a Covid outbreak that led to the postponement of Liverpool's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Arsenal had "a lot of false positives".

The Reds said a "severe outbreak" at the club meant they could not field a team against the Gunners.

However, Klopp says defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is the only player to actually test positive.

"This was the team we could line up with today and the boys did really well," said the Reds boss.

"We had last week a proper outbreak and it showed up that we had a lot of false positives but the rules are like they are so all these players who are false positives couldn't play.

"The only real positive came from Trent Alexander-Arnold and all the rest were false positives."

  5. Gordon impresses as Liverpool beat Shrewsbury

Speaking of scares, Liverpool had their own at Anfield, falling behind to League One's Shrewsbury.

Daniel Udoh gave the away supporters a moment to savour, but the seven-time winners were not to be denied as teenager Kaide Gordon quickly levelled before Fabinho's penalty put Jurgen Klopp's side ahead before the break.

Roberto Firmino and Fabinho's second secured a comfortable win for Liverpool, who will host Cardiff City in the next round.

    Conte

    A bit more from Conte.

When asked if he was disappointed in Ndombele's slow trudge off the pitch, the Italian chose to speak about his reasoning for the substitution.

"I think during the game, you have to try the best solution to find something, especially if I'm seeing we're losing 1-0 and then you have to try to change something, especially when you have on the bench players at the top level," he said.

"In this case, I decided to give a bit of rest to Harry and also Lucas. At one point, when I've seen the situation we should change the situation, for sure.

"When you have this type of player on the bench, for sure, the expectation is to change the game.

"It's not only for this game, it's our life, the normal life of the coach. If the team is playing and then on the bench you turn your head and you can see top players then you change the game."

  7. Post update

However, Spurs boss Antonio Conte was level-headed while discussing the fans' reaction to Ndombele during his post-match press conference.

"I was so focused on the game because we were losing 1-0. This type of situation, they are in football," said Conte.

"You have to be good to try to change your opinion. If someone is disappointed with you. It's normal.

"I was a player and it happened sometimes to me that someone was unhappy with my performance. This is our life. I repeat, it's OK. We have to continue to work and try to be better next time.

"We have to know very well that if we perform well, the fans are happy. If you don't perform well, the fans are not happy. This is football. If we think the fans have to be happy any time, if you win or lose, I think that's not right.

"Me, for sure, when I don't win, I'm not happy, I am upset and I think that is OK."

  8. Post update

    Ndombele

It wasn't a happy afternoon for Spurs' record signing Tanguy Ndombele, however, as the Frenchman was booed by the club's fans.

Ndombele was substituted when Tottenham were a goal down, and appeared to exit the pitch slower after the boos started.

The midfielder then went straight down the tunnel after being substituted, missing his team-mates scoring three goals in the final 16 minutes to survive a cup upset.

  9. Spurs bounce back to beat Morecambe

While Arsenal crashed out, their north London rivals survived a scare as Tottenham came from a goal down to beat League One strugglers Morecambe.

Shrimps defender Anthony O'Connor's opener sparked wild celebrations among the travelling supporters, only for Harry Winks, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane to strike in the second half and send Antonio Conte's side through.

  17. Arsenal lacked hunger - Osman

Leon Osman said Arsenal lacked hunger, leadership and "looked young".

"They looked young, they looked like they were lacking leadership. They didn't really have anyone to take the game and galvanise.

"They didn't have a shot on target, they didn't have any effort after the 70-minute mark.

"Despite being behind in the game, they had no hunger to go on and win it and I think that surprised Mikel Arteta and will be something he will try to rectify.

  18. 'We deserved to win' - Cooper

    Steve Cooper

Steve Cooper, who has improved Forest's form since taking over as boss in September, said a place in the fourth round - where they'll host holders Leicester in an East Midlands derby - is no more than they deserve.

"I think we deserved to win," said Cooper.

"We came up against a really good team. We had a clear game plan. We wanted to be brave with our pressing and get at them on the counter and that's how we scored.

"I'm really proud of the boys, pleased with the performance. It's brilliant to get through and I hope the players now really believe in what we're doing."
