The Divine Genealogy of Jesus Christ - The Gospel of John does not begin with the virgin birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This is because the purpose of this particular Gospel is to declare that Jesus is the incarnate Son of God. Therefore, the author begins with Jesus' pre-existent state as firm evidence of His divinity. The author is saying that in order to go back to the beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, one must go back to the beginning of Jesus' ministry, which started before time began. His office and ministry in the beginning was as the Word of God.
Veteran British filmmaker Philip Saville directs the religious epic The Gospel of John; a production of the Canadian company Visual Bible International. This three-hour drama attempts to accurately follow the Gospel According to John written sometime during the first century. The gospel contains four segments: an introduction to the nature of Jesus Christ; testimony by disciples and the presence of miracles; the Last Supper and crucifixion; and the appearance of the risen Christ. Henry Ian Cusick plays Jesus and Christopher Plummer provides voice-over narration. The Gospel of John was shown in a special presentation at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival.

John the Apostle was part of the inner circle of Jesus. He was also the author of five books in the New Testament. Yet with all of that, the authors of Matthew, Mark, and Luke hardly quote him.
John called himself “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” That probably wasn’t an overstatement, because Jesus entrusted his mother, Mary, to John upon his death.
As Luke describes the middle part of Jesus’ ministry, he starts relating more stories about the seriousness of committing to follow Jesus. Jesus was running out of time to train his apostles and certainly had less time to spend with disciples who would not fully commit to him. When Jesus sent out the seventy disciples, it was an opportunity for them to learn the rewards of full commitment. One reward was that Jesus saw Satan fall like lightning from the sky.
As you read Luke 10, notice how Jesus stresses the importance of full commitment in both his actions and his stories. Even in his confrontation with the Pharisees, he makes it clear that you simply being close to being committed is not enough. He says we have to love God with all our hearts, soul, strength and mind, and love our neighbors as ourselves. Those are surely high bars of commitment!
Luke is the only Gospel source for the parable of the Good Samaritan. Notice that Jesus tells the parable in response to the question, “Who qualifies for me to love them as much as I love myself?” It is ironic that the expert in the law asked that question to Jesus, since surely Jesus would ask himself that very question on many occasions since the beginning of time. Think of the parable in that context and you may think of Jesus in a new way.

St. John the Apostle was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He was called to be an Apostle by our Lord in the first year of His public ministry. St. John is considered the same person as John the Evangelist, John of Patmos and the Beloved Disciple. He is the patron saint of love, loyalty, friendships, and authors.
John and Peter were the only two apostles sent by Jesus to make preparations for the final Passover meal, the Last Supper. During the meal, St. John sat next to Jesus, leaning on him rather than lying along the couches.
He was the only one of the Twelve Apostles who did not forsake the Savior in the hour of His Passion. He stood faithfully at the cross where the Savior made John the guardian of His Mother.
After the Assumption of Mary, John traveled to Ephesus, where he was banished by Roman authorities to the Greek Island of Patmos after being plunged into boiling oil in Rome and suffering no injuries. It is also said that all those who witnessed the miracle in the Colosseum were converted to Christianity.
John is believed to be the longest living apostle and the only one not to die a martyr's death. The "beloved disciple" died in Ephesus after AD 98, where a stately church was erected over his tomb. He is known as the author of the Gospel of John and four other books in the New Testament - the three Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation.
St. John is often depicted in art as the author of the Gospel with an eagle, symbolizing "the height he rose to in his gospel." In other icons, he is shown looking up into heaven and dictating his Gospel to his disciple.
St. John, Apostle and Evangelist's feast day is celebrated on December 27.

He and his brother, James, were with Peter at some of the most important moments of the Savior’s mortal ministry, and he has been traditionally associated with five different books in the New Testament.1 His personal closeness to the Lord is suggested by John 13:23: “Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.” Throughout the ages, Christian art has reflected this image, picturing John as a young man, often resting in the Savior’s arms. John the Apostle (Aramaic: ܝܘܚܢܢ ܫܠܝܚܐ Yohanan Shliha; Hebrew: יוחנן בן זבדי Yohanan Ben Zavdai; Koine Greek: Ἰωάννης; Latin: Ioannes; c. AD 6 – c. 106) was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. He was the son of Zebedee and Salome. His brother was James, who was another of the Twelve Apostles. John 21:24 claims that the Gospel of John is based on the written testimony of the "Beloved Disciple". The authorship of some Johannine literature has been debated since about the year 200. The Divine Genealogy of Jesus Christ - The Gospel of John does not begin with the virgin birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This is because the purpose of this particular Gospel is to declare that Jesus is the incarnate Son of God. Therefore, the author begins with Jesus' pre-existent state as firm evidence of His divinity. The author is saying that in order to go back to the beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, one must go back to the beginning of Jesus' ministry, which started before time began. His office and ministry in the beginning was as the Word of God.
Veteran British filmmaker Philip Saville directs the religious epic The Gospel of John; a production of the Canadian company Visual Bible International. This three-hour drama attempts to accurately follow the Gospel According to John written sometime during the first century. The gospel contains four segments: an introduction to the nature of Jesus Christ; testimony by disciples and the presence of miracles; the Last Supper and crucifixion; and the appearance of the risen Christ. Henry Ian Cusick plays Jesus and Christopher Plummer provides voice-over narration. The Gospel of John was shown in a special presentation at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival.

John the Apostle was part of the inner circle of Jesus. He was also the author of five books in the New Testament. Yet with all of that, the authors of Matthew, Mark, and Luke hardly quote him.
John called himself “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” That probably wasn’t an overstatement, because Jesus entrusted his mother, Mary, to John upon his death.
As Luke describes the middle part of Jesus’ ministry, he starts relating more stories about the seriousness of committing to follow Jesus. Jesus was running out of time to train his apostles and certainly had less time to spend with disciples who would not fully commit to him. When Jesus sent out the seventy disciples, it was an opportunity for them to learn the rewards of full commitment. One reward was that Jesus saw Satan fall like lightning from the sky.
As you read Luke 10, notice how Jesus stresses the importance of full commitment in both his actions and his stories. Even in his confrontation with the Pharisees, he makes it clear that you simply being close to being committed is not enough. He says we have to love God with all our hearts, soul, strength and mind, and love our neighbors as ourselves. Those are surely high bars of commitment!
Luke is the only Gospel source for the parable of the Good Samaritan. Notice that Jesus tells the parable in response to the question, “Who qualifies for me to love them as much as I love myself?” It is ironic that the expert in the law asked that question to Jesus, since surely Jesus would ask himself that very question on many occasions since the beginning of time. Think of the parable in that context and you may think of Jesus in a new way.

St. John is considered the same person as John the Evangelist, John of Patmos and the Beloved Disciple. He is the patron saint of love, loyalty, friendships, and authors.
John and Peter were the only two apostles sent by Jesus to make preparations for the final Passover meal, the Last Supper. During the meal, St. John sat next to Jesus, leaning on him rather than lying along the couches.
He was the only one of the Twelve Apostles who did not forsake the Savior in the hour of His Passion. He stood faithfully at the cross where the Savior made John the guardian of His Mother.
After the Assumption of Mary, John traveled to Ephesus, where he was banished by Roman authorities to the Greek Island of Patmos after being plunged into boiling oil in Rome and suffering no injuries. It is also said that all those who witnessed the miracle in the Colosseum were converted to Christianity.
John is believed to be the longest living apostle and the only one not to die a martyr's death. The "beloved disciple" died in Ephesus after AD 98, where a stately church was erected over his tomb. He is known as the author of the Gospel of John and four other books in the New Testament - the three Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation.
St. John is often depicted in art as the author of the Gospel with an eagle, symbolizing "the height he rose to in his gospel." In other icons, he is shown looking up into heaven and dictating his Gospel to his disciple.
St. John, Apostle and Evangelist's feast day is celebrated on December 27.

John the Apostle was part of the inner circle of Jesus. He was also the author of five books in the New Testament. Yet with all of that, the authors of Matthew, Mark, and Luke hardly quote him.
John called himself “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” That probably wasn’t an overstatement, because Jesus entrusted his mother, Mary, to John upon his death.
As Luke describes the middle part of Jesus’ ministry, he starts relating more stories about the seriousness of committing to follow Jesus. Jesus was running out of time to train his apostles and certainly had less time to spend with disciples who would not fully commit to him. When Jesus sent out the seventy disciples, it was an opportunity for them to learn the rewards of full commitment. One reward was that Jesus saw Satan fall like lightning from the sky.
As you read Luke 10, notice how Jesus stresses the importance of full commitment in both his actions and his stories. Even in his confrontation with the Pharisees, he makes it clear that you simply being close to being committed is not enough. He says we have to love God with all our hearts, soul, strength and mind, and love our neighbors as ourselves. Those are surely high bars of commitment!
Luke is the only Gospel source for the parable of the Good Samaritan. Notice that Jesus tells the parable in response to the question, “Who qualifies for me to love them as much as I love myself?” It is ironic that the expert in the law asked that question to Jesus, since surely Jesus would ask himself that very question on many occasions since the beginning of time. Think of the parable in that context and you may think of Jesus in a new way.

St. John the Apostle was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He was called to be an Apostle by our Lord in the first year of His public ministry. St. John is considered the same person as John the Evangelist, John of Patmos and the Beloved Disciple. He is the patron saint of love, loyalty, friendships, and authors.
John and Peter were the only two apostles sent by Jesus to make preparations for the final Passover meal, the Last Supper. During the meal, St. John sat next to Jesus, leaning on him rather than lying along the couches.
He was the only one of the Twelve Apostles who did not forsake the Savior in the hour of His Passion. He stood faithfully at the cross where the Savior made John the guardian of His Mother.
After the Assumption of Mary, John traveled to Ephesus, where he was banished by Roman authorities to the Greek Island of Patmos after being plunged into boiling oil in Rome and suffering no injuries. It is also said that all those who witnessed the miracle in the Colosseum were converted to Christianity.
John is believed to be the longest living apostle and the only one not to die a martyr's death. The "beloved disciple" died in Ephesus after AD 98, where a stately church was erected over his tomb. He is known as the author of the Gospel of John and four other books in the New Testament - the three Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation.
St. John is often depicted in art as the author of the Gospel with an eagle, symbolizing "the height he rose to in his gospel." In other icons, he is shown looking up into heaven and dictating his Gospel to his disciple.
St. John, Apostle and Evangelist's feast day is celebrated on December 27.

After Peter, John is perhaps the best known of Jesus’s original Twelve Apostles. He and his brother, James, were with Peter at some of the most important moments of the Savior’s mortal ministry, and he has been traditionally associated with five different books in the New Testament.1 His personal closeness to the Lord is suggested by John 13:23: “Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.” Throughout the ages, Christian art has reflected this image, picturing John as a young man, often resting in the Savior’s arms. This is the origin of his unique title, John the Beloved, but his witness and mission reveal aspects of discipleship that we can all share.

John the Apostle (Aramaic: ܝܘܚܢܢ ܫܠܝܚܐ Yohanan Shliha; Hebrew: יוחנן בן זבדי Yohanan Ben Zavdai; Koine Greek: Ἰωάννης; Latin: Ioannes; c. AD 6 – c. 106) was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. He was the son of Zebedee and Salome. His brother was James, who was another of the Twelve Apostles. Christian tradition holds that he outlived the remaining apostles and that he was the only one not to die a martyr's death (excluding Judas Iscariot who died by suicide). The Church Fathers considered him the same person as John the Evangelist, John of Patmos, and the Beloved Disciple, although modern theologians and scholars have not formed a consensus on the relative identities of these mean. The tradition of some Christian denominations holds that John the Apostle is the author of several books of the New Testament.
New Testament author
Church tradition holds that John is the author of the Gospel of John and four other books of the New Testament — the three Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation. In the Gospel, authorship is internally credited to the "disciple whom Jesus loved" (ὁ μαθητὴς ὃν ἠγάπα ὁ Ἰησοῦς, o mathētēs on ēgapa o Iēsous) in John 20:2. John 21:24 claims that the Gospel of John is based on the written testimony of the "Beloved Disciple". The authorship of some Johannine literature has been debated since about the year 200. Some doubt that the "Gospel of John" was written by an individual named "John" (Ἰωάννης or יוחנן). Nevertheless, the notion of "John the Evangelist" exists, and is usually thought of as the same as the Apostle John.
