    One group of mammals found at Rancho La Brea are tapirs. Tapirs were once spread across the U.S. and in fact originated in North America before spreading to Eurasia and South America. The last Californian Tapir became extinct 13,000 years ago.

    Fossilised echinoid 'sea-urchin' Related to starfish and sea lillies. They all share five fold symmetry which is easily seen on starfish. Here is one I found near to the coast today, incredibly it's millions of years old! Conservation@Althorp.com

    Befitting for its Devonian time period, you can find placoderms such as Gemuendina within the Hunsrück Slate. This strange, manta ray-like creature would use its upturned face to suck any unsuspecting prey into its mouth.
