Where Did the Papacy Come From?
The pope might be the most recognizable symbol of the Catholic Church, and his significance has actually grown over time. Where did the idea of the pope come from, and how did it develop over time?

INTENSE Discussion on the Papacy (Cordial Catholic x Gospel Simplicity Crossover)
Do Catholic arguments for the papacy hold up under scrutiny? In this passionate yet cordial dialogue between Dr. Gavin Ortlund and Joe Heschmeyer, the arguments for the papacy are examined in detail, including was there was a bishop in Rome in the first century? Is apostolic succession valid? What evidence is there for a three-fold office in the church? Was Peter head of the apostles? And so much more. These two were able to go back and forth, delving into Scripture, the Church Fathers, and the modern definitions of papal infallibility and universal jurisdiction.

The Papacy
In Matthew 16 we see perhaps the clearest exposition of the founding of the Papacy by Jesus. Jesus not only installs Peter to an office -- that of the papacy -- but does so with unique and specific words and images that, when read in light of the Old Testament, helps us unpack what Jesus' intention was on this occasion. After all, that should be our goal with this and any other passage of Scripture: What was Jesus' intention when he used the words and actions he did, so that we can better conform our intellect and wills to what he asks of us and to what he intended to accomplish in his ministry.
In addition, Dr. Pitre also covers Matthew 23 where Jesus gives the other apostles similar authority to that of Peter and the office of the papacy, but notes one major difference that is lacking...

The Inquisition - The Dark Side of the Papacy
This video is a historical video about the inquisition and the popes who carried it out, and only an attack to these two concepts.
I am aware that the catholic church has also done good things and that there are good people among it's members, but that's not the point of this video.
Here we are simply discussing the Inquisition, which I do attack and believe should be historically studied for what it was.
thank you again for your time noble ones, and I wish to thank all of you for the comments, whether you agree with me or you don't.
Metatron
Before 1100, the Catholic Church had already suppressed what they believed to be heresy, usually through a system of ecclesiastical proscription or imprisonment, but without using torture and seldom resorting to executions. Such punishments had...

The Origins of the Papacy: From Bishops to Popes
In this video, I look at the evolution of the Christian church in the Western Roman Empire and its successor kingdoms up to about the year 500 CE. I focus on the differences between the Western and Eastern churches, look at some of the major leaders in the West, and talk about how bishops of Rome like Leo I used the Petrine Doctrine and theological divisions in the East to advance the power of the church at Rome.

About Gospel Simplicity:
Gospel Simplicity began as a YouTube channel in a Moody Bible Institute dorm. It was born out of the central conviction that the gospel is really good news, and I wanted to share that with as many people as possible. The channel has grown and changed over time, but that central conviction has never changed. Today, we make content around biblical and theological topics, often interacting with people from across the Christian tradition with the hope of seeking greater unity and introducing people to the beautiful simplicity and transformative power of the gospel, the good news about Jesus.
About the host:
Hey! My name is Austin, and I'm a 22 year old guy who’s passionate about the beautiful simplicity and transformative power of the gospel. I believe that the gospel, the good news about Jesus, is really good news, and I’m out to explore, unpack, and share that good news with as many people as possible. I'm a full blown Bible and Church History nerd that loves getting to dialogue with others about this, learning as much as I can, and then teaching whatever I can. I grew up around Frederick, MD where I eventually ended up working my first job at a church. They made the mistake of letting me try my hand at teaching, and instantly I fell in love. That set me on a path for further education, and I'm currently a student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL, studying theology.
Pitre also covers Matthew 23 where Jesus gives the other apostles similar authority to that of Peter and the office of the papacy, but notes one major difference that is lacking.
Check out this video with Dr. Brant Pitre and discover the Jewish Roots of the Papacy.

Pitre also covers Matthew 23 where Jesus gives the other apostles similar authority to that of Peter and the office of the papacy, but notes one major difference that is lacking.
Check out this video with Dr. Brant Pitre and discover the Jewish Roots of the Papacy.

Such punishments had a number of ecclesiastical opponents, although some countries punished heresy with the death penalty.
In the 12th century, to counter the spread of Catharism, prosecution of heretics became more frequent.
A strong topic.
