Follow a typical day in the life of an architect. Part architecture vlog, part behind-the-scenes look at some of the tasks architects work on each day: from designing a set of elevations to managing projects in construction, to writing specifications, to managing an office, and how to deal with the inevitable creative blocks creatives face on a daily basis.
I intentionally structure my day to be divided between making in the morning and managing in the afternoons, with a mid-day transition break for exercise. Learn why this works for me and follow along as I work through some of the most common struggles an architect faces in daily professional practice.
For aspiring architects, architecture students, and those curious about exactly what it is that architects do each day.
In future vlogs I hope to be able to show more of the construction coordination and dialogue that happens outside of the studio as this is where so many decisions are made.

Holy smokes! 6 months ago, our class was halfway through the 6th semester of architecture school. Everyone was busily trying to get their studio project done, but I had something else playing on my mind at the same time.
I had been receiving a lot of messages asking, "what it's like to be an architect / student of architecture?" “I’ve heard of the difficulties involved with the profession and education, is it worth it?”.
It made me question it myself. Why are these the most common questions asked by aspiring architects? Could it be that the work of an architect is hidden behind closed doors? It is almost impossible to get an insight into what it is like. As students, we are heading blindly into a vast profession we know so little about.
This needed to change. I set out to make ONE VIDEO that put all questions to rest. One video that would give an insight into what it is really like. One video to help you decide if architecture is really something you want to dedicate your life to.
I collected as much filming and audio equipment as I could find (I might have gone through my brother's equipment too... shhh), and set out to Baukultur - an architecture practice in Adelaide. I was taken on site visits, client meetings, builder discussions and hung around the office to capture what it is like being an architect. Man, did I realise how much I didn’t know I didn’t know.
The next week, I went to Northern Edge Studio where I met the founder, Paul. I think Paul said it best when he said, “once you finish Uni, you realise there’s still a lot to learn”.
Now, here we are. 6 months later.
The documentary is finished. Is the life of an architect worth all the stress, late nights, and struggle?
It is time to reveal the life of an architect behind closed doors.

Architect
An architect is a person who plans, designs, and oversees the construction of buildings. To practice architecture means to provide services in connection with the design and construction of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings, that have as their principal purpose human occupancy or use. Etymologically, architect derives from the Latin architectus, which derives from the Greek (arkhi-, chief + tekton, builder), i.e., chief builder.
Professionally, an architect's decisions affect public safety, and thus an architect must undergo specialized training consisting of advanced education and a practicum (or internship) for practical experience to earn a license to practice architecture. Architect (The Matrix)
The Architect is a fictional character in the films The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. He is portrayed by Helmut Bakaitis. He also makes an appearance in the MMORPG The Matrix Online.
History
Constructing the First Matrices
The Architect created the first Matrix as a utopia for the humans whose minds inhabited it. However, the human minds rejected this first attempt as a perfect world and beta 1 of the Matrix crashed. A second attempt added "vulgarities" of human nature and a basic cause and effect, but this beta was also a failure. The Architect turned to a more intuitive program designed to understand human nature and psychology to augment the framework of the next Matrix. This time, the power of choice was added to the programming, where humans would be allowed the power to choose, even if the person was only aware of the choice on a vague, subconscious level.
This version of the Matrix worked, except for approximately 1 percent of human minds. These humans were apparently bodily ejected from the power plant. Some of these humans survived to join Zion.

Architect is the fourth studio album by Irish singer-songwriter Wallis Bird. The album will be released in the Republic of Ireland on April 11, 2014 alongside Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The album is released in the United Kingdom on April 14, 2014. The first promo single from the album is 'Hardly Hardly' and those who pre-order the album on iTunes prior to its Irish release will receive 'I Can Be Your Man' for free.

I intentionally structure my day to be divided between making in the morning and managing in the afternoons, with a mid-day transition break for exercise. Truthfully, the life of an architect is not all sunshine and rainbows. Despite the stress, late nights and years of rigorous study and practice . . . in the end, is it worth becoming an architect? Holy smokes! 6 months ago, our class was halfway through the 6th semester of architecture school. Everyone was busily trying to get their studio project done, but I had something else playing on my mind at the same time.
I had been receiving a lot of messages asking, "what it's like to be an architect / student of architecture?" “I’ve heard of the difficulties involved with the profession and education, is it worth it?”.
It made me question it myself. Why are these the most common questions asked by aspiring architects? Could it be that the work of an architect is hidden behind closed doors? It is almost impossible to get an insight into what it is like. As students, we are heading blindly into a vast profession we know so little about.
This needed to change. I set out to make ONE VIDEO that put all questions to rest. One video that would give an insight into what it is really like. One video to help you decide if architecture is really something you want to dedicate your life to.
I collected as much filming and audio equipment as I could find (I might have gone through my brother's equipment too... shhh), and set out to Baukultur - an architecture practice in Adelaide. I was taken on site visits, client meetings, builder discussions and hung around the office to capture what it is like being an architect. Man, did I realise how much I didn’t know I didn’t know.
The next week, I went to Northern Edge Studio where I met the founder, Paul. I think Paul said it best when he said, “once you finish Uni, you realise there’s still a lot to learn”.
Now, here we are. 6 months later.
The documentary is finished. Is the life of an architect worth all the stress, late nights, and struggle?
It is time to reveal the life of an architect behind closed doors.

In this full architecture documentary, you will witness what a day in the life of an architect looks, feels, and tastes like (spoiler: coffee). Truthfully, the life of an architect is not all sunshine and rainbows. Despite the stress, late nights and years of rigorous study and practice . . . in the end, is it worth becoming an architect? Is the architecture life rightfully exalted?
The documentary “Behind Closed Doors – The Life of an Architect” will bring you along a day in the life of architects, interior architects, interior designers, draftsmen, BIM managers, landscape architects, graduates of architecture, intern architects and architecture students.
From morning to evening, you will experience what it is like in the life of an architect. This will help you decide whether it is something you might be interested in doing or continuing. Maybe you are not cut out for the life of an architect?
The late architect, Zaha Hadid once said “if you want an easy life, don’t become an architect”.
In the architecture documentary, you will discover what Hadid was talking about. What are these big challenges you will need to learn to overcome? More importantly, HOW can you overcome them?
The interviewees in this documentary provide an insight into their lives within the architecture profession. They share their biggest struggles, favourite moments, advice to their younger selves and answer the question “is it all worth it?”.
If you have ever thought about studying architecture or becoming an architect, this documentary is a must watch. So much of what an architect does is hidden behind closed doors. So, let us open them. Let us dive into the life of an architect behind closed doors.

Holy smokes! 6 months ago, our class was halfway through the 6th semester of architecture school. Everyone was busily trying to get their studio project done, but I had something else playing on my mind at the same time.
I had been receiving a lot of messages asking, "what it's like to be an architect / student of architecture?" “I’ve heard of the difficulties involved with the profession and education, is it worth it?”.
It made me question it myself. Why are these the most common questions asked by aspiring architects? Could it be that the work of an architect is hidden behind closed doors? It is almost impossible to get an insight into what it is like. As students, we are heading blindly into a vast profession we know so little about.
This needed to change. I set out to make ONE VIDEO that put all questions to rest. One video that would give an insight into what it is really like. One video to help you decide if architecture is really something you want to dedicate your life to.
I collected as much filming and audio equipment as I could find (I might have gone through my brother's equipment too... shhh), and set out to Baukultur - an architecture practice in Adelaide. I was taken on site visits, client meetings, builder discussions and hung around the office to capture what it is like being an architect. Man, did I realise how much I didn’t know I didn’t know.
The next week, I went to Northern Edge Studio where I met the founder, Paul. I think Paul said it best when he said, “once you finish Uni, you realise there’s still a lot to learn”.
Now, here we are. 6 months later.
The documentary is finished. Is the life of an architect worth all the stress, late nights, and struggle?
It is time to reveal the life of an architect behind closed doors.

Follow a typical day in the life of an architect. Part architecture vlog, part behind-the-scenes look at some of the tasks architects work on each day: from designing a set of elevations to managing projects in construction, to writing specifications, to managing an office, and how to deal with the inevitable creative blocks creatives face on a daily basis.
I intentionally structure my day to be divided between making in the morning and managing in the afternoons, with a mid-day transition break for exercise. Learn why this works for me and follow along as I work through some of the most common struggles an architect faces in daily professional practice.
For aspiring architects, architecture students, and those curious about exactly what it is that architects do each day.
In future vlogs I hope to be able to show more of the construction coordination and dialogue that happens outside of the studio as this is where so many decisions are made.

Architect
An architect is a person who plans, designs, and oversees the construction of buildings. To practice architecture means to provide services in connection with the design and construction of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings, that have as their principal purpose human occupancy or use. Etymologically, architect derives from the Latin architectus, which derives from the Greek (arkhi-, chief + tekton, builder), i.e., chief builder.
Professionally, an architect's decisions affect public safety, and thus an architect must undergo specialized training consisting of advanced education and a practicum (or internship) for practical experience to earn a license to practice architecture. Practical, technical, and academic requirements for becoming an architect vary by jurisdiction (see below).
The terms architect and architecture are also used in the disciplines of landscape architecture, naval architecture and often information technology (for example a network architect or software architect). In most jurisdictions, the professional and commercial uses of the terms "architect" and "landscape architect" are legally protected.
