Peñarol
Club Atlético Peñarol (Spanish pronunciation: [kluβ aˈtletiko peɲaˈɾol]; English: Peñarol Athletic Club) —also known as Carboneros, Aurinegros and (familiarly) Manyas— is a Uruguayan sports club from Montevideo. Peñarol was founded on 28 September 1891. The name "Peñarol" comes from the Peñarol neighbourhood on the outskirts of Montevideo. Throughout its history the club has also participated in other sports, such as basketball and cycling. Its focus has always been on football, a sport in which the club excels, having never been relegated from the top division.
Peñarol has 42 Uruguayan championships. It is the most prestigious team in Uruguay with 5 Copa Libertadores and 3 intercontinental cups. Peñarol also won the Uruguayan championship of the Federación Uruguaya de Football in 1924 FUF and the Consejo Provisorio (Provisional Council) cup in 1926 CP, giving the club a total of 49 Uruguayan Primera División championships. In international competition, Peñarol is the third-highest Copa Libertadores winner with five victories and holds the record for Intercontinental Cup victories with three. In September 2009, the club was chosen as the South American Club of the Century by the IFFHS.

Peñarol currently play in the Liga Nacional de Básquet (LNB), the top level of the Argentine league system. Their home arena is the Polideportivo Islas Malvinas.
