HAMBURG TRAVEL GUIDE | 10 Things to do Hamburg, Germany on a 24 Hour Visit! 🇩🇪
Hallo and greeting from the northern port city of Hamburg! This is where Sam and I kicked off our recent trip across Germany, and while we only had one full day to explore, we hit the ground running ready to eat, see and do as much as possible. After a solid night's rest, we seemed to have kicked the jet lag, and we spent our day exploring the red-brick warehouses of Speicherstadt, touring the port by boat, eating our fill of pickled herring, taking part in a chocolate-making workshop, and a whole lot more. The following is our Hamburg travel guide and in this video we’re going to be sharing 10 things to do in Hamburg during your visit.
🇩🇪 10 Things to do in Hamburg, Germany 🇩🇪
1) Walk around Speicherstadt (City of Warehouses)
2) Ride the harbour ferry
3) Walk across the Old Elbe Tunnel...

Hamburg, Germany Walking Tour (4k Ultra HD 60fps) – With Captions
We recorded this 4k ultra hd video during our trip to Hamburg, Germany on August 2020.
With a population of over 1.84 million Hamburg is the second-largest city in Germany after Berlin and 7th largest city in the European Union. The city lies on the River Elbe and is Europe's third-largest port.
Hamburg's rivers and canals are crossed by around 2,500 bridges, making it the city with the highest number of bridges in Europe.
Hamburg enjoys a very high quality of living, being ranked 19th in the 2019 Mercer Quality of Living Survey. It is also a major European science, research, and education hub, with several universities and institutions.
Our guided walking tour is about 4.97 miles (8 km) long, starts at Hamburg Train Station, ends at Museum for Hamburg History and covers most attractions...

Over the years I've had a chance to explore a many number of regions of Germany including big cities and smaller towns but there's nothing quite like the experience I had in Hamburg. What I experienced was something so profoundly exciting and energizing, I was completely blown away. Hamburg is a city of contrasts - young and the classic, rivers for making money and others for spending money, red light districts juxtaposed against hipster neighbourhoods, and plenty of opportunities to party but also ways to chill out and relax. The possibilities are endless in this maritime city!

3) Walk across the Old Elbe Tunnel
4) Try Herring sandwiches at Brücke 10
5) Go on a boat tour of the port
6) Make your own chocolate at Chocoversum
7) Have dinner at NENI
8) City views from the Elbe Philharmonic Hall
9) Visit Miniature Wunderland
10) Stay at Altes Hafenamt
And that is our travel guide to Hamburg in 24 hours! We hope this itinerary gave you a few ideas of the things you can see, eat and do during a short visit. If you have any other suggestions of things to do in Hamburg, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below. And lastly, if you enjoyed this video, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and we’ll see you soon with more travels in Germany. Tschüss!

Our guided walking tour is about 4.97 miles (8 km) long, starts at Hamburg Train Station, ends at Museum for Hamburg History and covers most attractions and historic sites of Hamburg.

In 1909 the shipping company Laeisz ordered the Peking, together with the later Passat, The four-masted barque was launched on February 25, 1911 at the Hamburg shipyard Blohm & Voss. The construction costs amounted to 680,000 gold marks. The Peking was designed as a cargo ship for the transport of Chile nitrate. Her maiden voyage began on June 22, 1911 under Captain J. H. Hinrich Nissen. He had already commanded the five-mast full-rigged ship Preussen. The destination of her trip was ValparaÃso (Chile), where she arrived on September 14th.
Since the Peking had no auxiliary engines, it had to rely on tug assistance when entering and leaving Hamburg, as well as during storms in the English Channel. With full sails she...

Return of the Peking to the Port of Hamburg
A piece of port history has returned to Hamburg after 88 years. The traditional sailing ship Peking, built in 1911 at the Hamburg shipyard "Blohm und Voss", has returned to its home port of Hamburg after a life on the world's oceans. The Peking belongs to the legendary Flying P-Liners. The ships were known for their speed and safety.
The Peking was renovated for three years. Now tens of thousands on and alongside the Elbe have celebrated the return of the historic freighter. A very special day in the Port of Hamburg.

Das dritte Leben der "Peking" | die nordstory | NDR Doku
#ndr #ndrdoku #schiffe

Wiedergeburt einer Legende / Rebirth of a legend
- english subtitels - english discrition below -

Faszination "Peking" - was den Hamburger Viermaster auszeichnet

With full sails she was faster than steamships of that time.
She was back in Hamburg on January 28, 1912. Captain Nissen received an acquittal in the maritime office proceedings for an accident resulting in the death of a sailor and then led the Peking three times on the Hamburg-Antwerp-Chile route from November 30th until she arrived in ValparaÃso in August 1914 with the beginning of the First World War like eight other cargo sailors von Laeisz and 40 other German ships were interned. After the end of the war, Caleta Coloso (Chile) was returned to London under the command of Captain H. Oellrich (October 6, 1919 - January 21, 1920). On May 10, 1921, the ship went to Italy as reparation, but where it was not used for the four-masted barque. Since the sailing ships for the transfer voyage were allowed to be loaded with the saltpeter urgently needed in Europe and the saltpetre freights brought high profits, most of the sailing ships could be bought back. It was organized by the German Sailing Office. F. Laeisz succeeded in buying the Peking on January 11, 1923 for 8,500 pounds, which, adjusted for inflation, would be 486,000 pounds today. On January 25th it arrived in Cuxhaven from London under Captain Albrecht, probably with the help of the sea tug Fairplay XIV. She ran out on April 23, 1923 [13] under Captain Oellrich [14] to Valparaiso. In the years that followed, Beijing operated the Hamburg – Talcahuano route. After two trips under Captain Oellrich (1925) and then Captain Hermann Pienin. (1926) the Peking was converted into a combined cargo and training ship. In 1928 and 1929, the four-masted barque made two trips to Talcahuano under the command of Captain Jürgen Jürs. Her last voyage under the flag of F. Laeisz took the Peking in 1931/1932 under Captain Hans Rohwer to ValparaÃso and then from Taltal (Chile) to Santander (Spain).
After 20 trips to South America, F. Laeisz sold the ship to Shaftesbury Homes and Arethuse Training Ship, London, in 1932 as a result of the Great Depression. She was converted into a stationary training ship, renamed Arethusa (after the predecessor of the same name from the 19th century) and soon afterwards moved to Upnor near Rochester, Kent, and anchored on the Medway. [16] The yards were removed except for three at the foremast, the ship was provided with a porting strap. In 1940 the barque was drafted by the Royal Navy as accommodation, renamed Beijing again and laid up in Chatham Dockyard, Kent. After the Second World War it came to the previous owner and was given the name Arethusa back.
In 1964, Arethusa was the filming location for the Miss Marple crime thriller Killer ahoy! and can be seen in it under the name HMS Battledore.
On October 31, 1974, the four-masted barque was auctioned off to the J. Aron Charitable Foundation. From July 5 to July 22, 1975, the hull of the Peking was towed from Blackwall, London, to New York by the Dutch sea tug Utrecht. There it was re-rigged true to the original. With the inscription "Beijing" and home port "Hamburg" it was on the pier of the South Street Seaport Museum in New York.
In October 2012 it became known that there was no longer any space in the New York harbor for the now completely ailing Beijing. The museum agreed to give the ship away, but a floating transfer of the Peking to another port was not possible without extensive repairs.
On November 12, 2015, the budget committee of the German Bundestag decided to have the Beijing fetched back and restored for the Hamburg Harbor Museum, which is currently under construction, for which the Bundestag provided 26 million euros. The Peking was bought for 100 dollars. According to other sources, two Hamburg members of the Bundestag budget committee succeeded in obtaining the allocation of 120 million euros for the Hanseatic city's cultural budget in 2015. Of this, 20 million euros were calculated for the renovation of the Beijing. For political reasons, the ship was owned by the Hamburg Maritime Foundation. In May 2016 she received the order for the retrieval and professional restoration. As a result, the Peking was in September 2016 at the Caddell shipyard on Staten

Today, Mari has chosen to paint nothing less but a legend: the four-masted sailship "Peking". Since 1911 it was one of the famous "Flying-P-Liners" of the Hamburg shipping company Laeisz. Now the ship is being restored in the "Peters-Werft" shipyard in Wewelsfleth for about 40 million Euros. What an impressive sight! The "Peking" is a sister ship of the none less famous "Passat", which is lying at anchor in the Museum Harbour of Travemünde. Both sailships were once used on South America route. Later, the "Peking" was sold to England and finally came to New York. She was brought back to Germany in 2017 in a terrible, run down state. The "Peters-Werft" is known for spectacular conversions, but this order is special even for this experienced team. Once the restoration is completed, the "Peking" will go on her last trip to Hamburg where the "Stiftung Hamburg Maritim" is already looking forward to her flagship in the new Harbour Museum. And so do we!

Places to see in ( Hamburg - Germany ) Rickmer Rickmers
Rickmer Rickmers is a sailing ship (three masted barque) permanently moored as a museum ship in Hamburg, near the Cap San Diego. Rickmer Clasen Rickmers, (1807–1886) was a Bremerhaven shipbuilder and Willi Rickmer Rickmers, (1873–1965) led a Soviet-German expedition to the Pamirs in 1928.
Rickmer Rickmers was built in 1896 by the Rickmers shipyard in Bremerhaven, and was first used on the Hong Kong route carrying rice and bamboo. In 1912 she was bought by Carl Christian Krabbenhöft, renamed Max, and transferred to the Hamburg - Chile route.
In World War I Max was captured by the Government of Portugal, in Horta (Azores) harbour and loaned to the United Kingdom as a war aid. For the remainder of the war the ship sailed under the Union Jack, as Flores. After World War I she was returned to the Portuguese Government, becoming a Portuguese Navy training ship and was once more renamed, as NRP Sagres (the second of that name). In 1958, she won the Tall Ships' Race.
In the early 1960s Sagres (II) was retired from school ship service when the Portuguese Navy purchased, from Brazil, the school ship Guanabara (originally launched in Germany in 1937 as Albert Leo Schlageter). In 1962, the former Guanabara was commissioned as school ship with the name Sagres (III). At the same time Sagres (II) was renamed Santo André and reclassified as depot ship. The NRP Santo André remained moored at the Lisbon Naval Base, being decommissioned in 1975. She was purchased in 1983 by an organisation named "Windjammer für Hamburg e.V.", renamed for the last time, back to Rickmer Rickmers, and turned into a floating museum ship.
