Fall Of Constantinople 1453 - Ottoman Wars DOCUMENTARY
The Eastern Roman Empire was under constant Ottoman pressure ever since the new conquerors appeared in the Anatolia. Although the Ottomans tried to take Constantinople on a number of occasions, they had to lift the siege of the city due to the Crusades of Varna and Nicopolis, the Timurid Invasion and the battle of Ankara, and the Interregnum period that happened after their Sultan Bayezid was taken hostage by Timur. However, after the victories at the battles of Varna (1444) and 2nd Kosovo (1448) against the crusaders of Wladyslaw III and John Hunyadi, the road to Constantinople was open and the new sultan Mehmed II set his sight on the city of the Roman emperors...

The city of walls: Constantinople - Lars Brownworth
The world owes much of its cultural legacy to Constantinople's walls. When Constantinople was under seige by neighboring enemies, the Roman city's elaborate system of moats, outer walls, and inner walls stood tall. Surviving numerous fire attacks, the walls were eventually brought down by more modern tools of warfare, but, thankfully, classical culture survived.

The Fall of Constantinople: The Great Siege of 1453 | Documentary
Constantinople. The City of the World’s Desire. The largest city in Christendom for nearly a thousand years. Surprisingly few remember this grand city, capital of two of history’s greatest empires: the Christian Roman Empire, and the Islamic Ottoman Empire.
This is the story of Constantinople’s fall, how Europe’s richest city fell to the Turks and became known as Istanbul: the story of the Great Siege of 1453.
When histories greatest fortification was stormed, and Europe’s largest cathedral was transformed into a mosque, the Empire formed by Romulus and Remus on the seven hills had finally come to an end. Europe shuddered. It had done nothing to help the ancient city. Now, it would suffer a renewed Islamic onslaught, not seen since the days of the great caliphs. The

Ensemble Constantinople performs the music of Dimitrie Cantemir (1673-1723), a Moldavian prince, scholar, composer, and diplomat. A fascinating historical figure, Cantemir’s compositions are considered part of the Ottoman music repertoire. More influential though are the over 350 instrumental works that he preserved in his book, Edvar-i Musiki, using his own innovative notation system, which remains as one of the most important collections of 16th and 17th century Ottoman and Middle Eastern music.

Lesson by Lars Brownworth, animation by Woland.

The
shockwaves caused by the fall of the city of Constantinople would echo through history, changing world history forever.
A big thank you to Mattia Bosello and Rosie for proving the Italian narration.
