In today's episode we're checking out Huntington Beach — also known as Surf City USA! Stretching 8 1/2 miles between Newport Beach on the south, and Sunset Beach on the north, Huntington Beach is one of Southern California top summer destinations.
The city got its nickname for its famous surf, which boasts the most consistent waves in California — and on the West Coast.
Huntington Beach Pier — located on PCH at Main Street — is where you'll find most of the action. Many of the Huntington Beach restaurants, surf shops, and attractions are found near the pier, making it a great place to start your visit.
The Surfing Hall of Fame is modeled after Graumann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. It pays tribute to the world's best surfers, including Duke Kahanamoku. Check out the famous hand and footprints of surf legends like Kelly Slater, Laird Hamilton and Corky Carroll, then walk over to Olive Street for a peek inside the International Surfing Museum.
Kahanamoku introduced surfing to the area in 1925, and the city has stayed true to its roots, hosting the renowned US Open of Surfing each July.
In February, more than 20,000 runners join their annual Surf City Marathon — a Boston qualifier with a stunning oceanfront course. And in September, charming Old World Village puts on one of the best Oktoberfests in Southern California, complete with dachshund races and authentic German cuisine.
Plan to stay the weekend, or even better an entire week, in HB. Three Huntington Beach hotels sit right on PCH, including the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa, Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort, and the boutique Shorebreak Hotel. If you have an RV, check out Sunset Vista Campground, which is as close as you'll get to the pier, or Bolsa Chica State Beach up the road.
Now when you're down on the beach, you've got to try their famous cheese strips — also known as strips and cheese. They've been around for 50 years and can be found on almost every snack stand along the shore.
Huntington Beach Pier is one of the West's longest public piers, stretching 1,850 feet in length. After walking to the end, reward yourself with a classic burger, milkshake or fries from Ruby's Diner — or head across the street for an affogato or scoop of gelato from Mangiamo Caffe.
One of our favorite places to eat is Duke's Restaurant — named after the famous Hawaiian surf legend. Come here during happy hour and you can get half off some of their best dishes.
Although surfing is definitely big, there are plenty of other things to do in HB. You can go cycling along 8 1/2 miles of boardwalk, play a game of volleyball on the sand, or take your pooch to Huntington Dog Beach at Goldenwest and PCH. (The Hilton Waterfront and Shorebreak Hotels are dog friendly!)
The 1,200-acre Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve — also known as the Bolsa Chica Wetlands — is an important migratory and nesting spot for birds, hosting over 300 different species. The Bolsa Chica interpretive center is open from 9 to 4 daily, where you can catch the scenic Mesa Trail. On the south lot, you can cross the wooden bridge to the Loop Trail, which travels 1 1/2 miles around the estuary. Public tours of Bolsa Chica are offered the first and second Saturdays of the month.
Around sunset, set up your beach chairs for a s'more roast and bonfire around one of the 600 fire pits in Huntington Beach. There's no better way to end your visit!

During a large WNW swell local surfer "JD" decides to jump off the end of the Huntington Beach Pier California instead of paddling out!
The video was captured by Daniel Patten (Dano) of "Reporting Live" who just happened to be there at the end of pier by Ruby's Diner.
He saw who he knows as a good friend and very well known local surf legend pull up on his bicyle in full wetsuit with surfboard in hand.
It did not take Dano long to figure out what was about to happen here, and some of the other spectators caught on quickly also.
So it was not a planned event, and even our surf and now YouTube star surfer JD did not really know he was going to do this until he saw the increasing 7-11 foot face breaking waves on south side with a side current sweeping through and closing out the paddling channel from northside!
It was just a more convenient easier way to get out there, not that he could not paddle himself because Johnny is a very experienced surfer to say the least, he just didn't feel like it this day and apparently not much time for him to go out?
Also not that he wanted any attention for this as you can see him early in the video trying to hide behind his surfboard and Ruby's Diner.
As Dano whips out his Samsung smart phone and starts rolling with this classic local news breaking event!

"henryssurfshowcase" The weather really got hot in Southern California during late August thru Sept in Huntington Beach California! Temperatures topped some 90s on the sand, with a water temp around a solid 74 degrees! I decided to put down the surfboard for a little while and take a walk down the coastline with my GoPro Cam. There were a lot of beautiful girls laying out all over! I asked a few if it would be ok for me to get some video of them for my YouTube Channel, they were very friendly and nice! Thank you girls very much for being in my video at henryssurfshowcase... Also I hope you like my music I wrote awhile back playing lead guitar with my band....

Huntington Beach, California
Huntington Beach is a seaside city in Orange County in Southern California. The city is named after American businessman Henry E. Huntington. The population was 189,992 during the 2010 census, making it the most populous beach city in Orange County and the seventh most populous city in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim MSA. Its estimated 2014 population was 200,809. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the southwest, by Seal Beach on the northwest, by Costa Mesa on the east, by Newport Beach on the southeast, by Westminster on the north, and by Fountain Valley on the northeast.
Huntington Beach (locally initialized "HB") is known for its long 9.5-mile (15.3 km) stretch of sandy beach, mild climate, excellent surfing, and beach culture. The ocean waves are enhanced by a natural effect caused by the edge-diffraction of open ocean swells around Santa Catalina Island. Swells generated predominantly from the North Pacific in winter and from a combination of Southern Hemisphere storms and hurricanes in the summer focus on Huntington Beach, creating consistent surf all year long, hence the nickname "Surf City".

Surfer jumps off Huntington Beach Pier CA. 3-8-2016
During a large WNW swell local surfer "JD" decides to jump off the end of the Huntington Beach Pier California instead of paddling out! The video was captured by Daniel Patten (Dano) of "Reporting Live" who just happened to be there at the end of pier by Ruby's Diner. He saw who he knows as a good friend and very well known local surf legend pull up on his bicyle in full wetsuit with surfboard in hand. It did not take Dano long to figure out what was about to happen here, and some of the other spectators caught on quickly also. So it was not a planned event, and even our surf and now YouTube star surfer JD did not really know he was going to do this until he saw the increasing 7-11 foot face breaking waves on south side with a side current sweeping through and closing out the paddling chan...

Girls Of Summer 2015 Huntington Beach CA.
"henryssurfshowcase" The weather really got hot in Southern California during late August thru Sept in Huntington Beach California! Temperatures topped some 90s on the sand, with a water temp around a solid 74 degrees! I decided to put down the surfboard for a little while and take a walk down the coastline with my GoPro Cam. There were a lot of beautiful girls laying out all over! I asked a few if it would be ok for me to get some video of them for my YouTube Channel, they were very friendly and nice! Thank you girls very much for being in my video at henryssurfshowcase... Also I hope you like my music I wrote awhile back playing lead guitar with my band....

In today's episode we're checking out Huntington Beach — also known as Surf City USA! Stretching 8 1/2 miles between Newport Beach on the south, and Sunset Beach on the north, Huntington Beach is one of Southern California top summer destinations.
The city got its nickname for its famous surf, which boasts the most consistent waves in California — and on the West Coast.
Huntington Beach Pier — located on PCH at Main Street — is where you'll find most of the action. Many of the Huntington Beach restaurants, surf shops, and attractions are found near the pier, making it a great place to start your visit.
The Surfing Hall of Fame is modeled after Graumann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. It pays tribute to the world's best surfers, including Duke Kahanamoku. Check out the famous hand and footprints of surf legends like Kelly Slater, Laird Hamilton and Corky Carroll, then walk over to Olive Street for a peek inside the International Surfing Museum.
Kahanamoku introduced surfing to the area in 1925, and the city has stayed true to its roots, hosting the renowned US Open of Surfing each July.
In February, more than 20,000 runners join their annual Surf City Marathon — a Boston qualifier with a stunning oceanfront course. And in September, charming Old World Village puts on one of the best Oktoberfests in Southern California, complete with dachshund races and authentic German cuisine.
Plan to stay the weekend, or even better an entire week, in HB. Three Huntington Beach hotels sit right on PCH, including the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa, Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort, and the boutique Shorebreak Hotel. If you have an RV, check out Sunset Vista Campground, which is as close as you'll get to the pier, or Bolsa Chica State Beach up the road.
Now when you're down on the beach, you've got to try their famous cheese strips — also known as strips and cheese. They've been around for 50 years and can be found on almost every snack stand along the shore.
Huntington Beach Pier is one of the West's longest public piers, stretching 1,850 feet in length. After walking to the end, reward yourself with a classic burger, milkshake or fries from Ruby's Diner — or head across the street for an affogato or scoop of gelato from Mangiamo Caffe.
One of our favorite places to eat is Duke's Restaurant — named after the famous Hawaiian surf legend. Come here during happy hour and you can get half off some of their best dishes.
Although surfing is definitely big, there are plenty of other things to do in HB. You can go cycling along 8 1/2 miles of boardwalk, play a game of volleyball on the sand, or take your pooch to Huntington Dog Beach at Goldenwest and PCH. (The Hilton Waterfront and Shorebreak Hotels are dog friendly!)
The 1,200-acre Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve — also known as the Bolsa Chica Wetlands — is an important migratory and nesting spot for birds, hosting over 300 different species. The Bolsa Chica interpretive center is open from 9 to 4 daily, where you can catch the scenic Mesa Trail. On the south lot, you can cross the wooden bridge to the Loop Trail, which travels 1 1/2 miles around the estuary. Public tours of Bolsa Chica are offered the first and second Saturdays of the month.
Around sunset, set up your beach chairs for a s'more roast and bonfire around one of the 600 fire pits in Huntington Beach. There's no better way to end your visit!

It was just a more convenient easier way to get out there, not that he could not paddle himself because Johnny is a very experienced surfer to say the least, he just didn't feel like it this day and apparently not much time for him to go out?
Also not that he wanted any attention for this as you can see him early in the video trying to hide behind his surfboard and Ruby's Diner.
As Dano whips out his Samsung smart phone and starts rolling with this classic local news breaking event!
I actually liked it so much and paid $40 to have full rights use permission and to share the original file that Dano gave me to do so, with you guys on my channel: "henryssurfshowcase" because I very much appriciate my viewers and loyal subscribers and thought you may like it also!!!!!

"henryssurfshowcase" The weather really got hot in Southern California during late August thru Sept in Huntington Beach California! Temperatures topped some 90s on the sand, with a water temp around a solid 74 degrees! I decided to put down the surfboard for a little while and take a walk down the coastline with my GoPro Cam. There were a lot of beautiful girls laying out all over! I asked a few if it would be ok for me to get some video of them for my YouTube Channel, they were very friendly and nice! Thank you girls very much for being in my video at henryssurfshowcase... Also I hope you like my music I wrote awhile back playing lead guitar with my band....

Hi guys, I'm Veronica Hill with California Travel Tips. If you're a subscriber to this channel, you're either planning a trip to California, or you're a resident looking for new places to check out. Today I'm going to share some of my Top 10 travel tips for visiting California like a local.
Tip No. 1: Book California State Park campgrounds exactly 7 months before you want to visit on http://www.ReserveAmerica.com. If you're hoping to score a busy holiday like the Fourth of July, reserve a few dates in the end of June, then add a few days to your visit. Securing a campground in Yosemite is also tricky. You'll need to log into http://www.Recreation.gov a few minutes before 7 a.m. on the 15th of the month — five months in advance of your visit. Popular campgrounds in the valley sell out in seconds! For example, if you want to book a stay between June 15 and July 14, you need to book on February 15.
Tip No. 2: If you're going to Disneyland, take advantage of the FastPass service. Just insert your park ticket into the kiosk for a designated FastPass ride and you'll receive a ticket allowing you to return later and cut the line. I've found it's handy to have one person gather all of your tickets to get the Fast Pass while you wait in line for another attraction. If you have kids too small to ride an attraction, the Baby Switch Pass is another good bet. Just ask a cast member for the pass at the entrance. Make sure you ride the most popular attractions right when the park opens. Knott's has a similar service called FastLane, but you have to pay for it.
Tip No. 3: Avoid traveling in the summer if you can. Most of the amusement parks are packed to capacity, with long lines and hot waits in the sun. The fall and winter sees much fewer crowds, and the hotels are cheaper too.
Tip No. 4: Get on the Groupon list for each city you are visiting. You'll be able to get discounts on some really cool attractions and restaurants you may not have considered before. If you want great hotel rates, check out sites like Priceline or Hotel Tonight for last-minute lodging.
Tip No. 5: If you plan on visiting several theme parks or attractions, look into the Go Card or City Pass. They offer discounts on many of the most popular sights in LA, San Diego and San Francisco. If you're a Costco member, many warehouses sell discount tickets to theme parks, restaurants and sporting events.
Tip. No. 6: If there's an expensive restaurant you want to try, go during happy hour. Often you'll get to sample their best dishes and drinks at half the price.
Tip No. 7: Families should plan their San Diego vacations in October, when the city hosts its Kids Free month. Many of the area's most popular attractions, including San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park and Balboa Park are free for kids 12 and under.
Tip No. 8: If your favorite hotel or campground is booked, try again seven days in advance. This is when many people cancel their reservations to avoid penalties.
Tip No. 9: If you're heading to more than one of the seven California national parks, consider getting the annual pass for $80. Admission is free for all the parks in April during National Parks Week, and in November during Veterans Day weekend.
Tip No. 10: For the best fares, book your trip midweek for flights departing and arriving on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The cheapest rates can often be found online between 10 p.m. Wednesdays and 6 a.m. Thursdays around the 7th of each month. Additionally, the cheapest fares are found 7, 14 and 21 days before you leave.

Hi guys, I'm Veronica Hill with California Travel Tips. If you're a subscriber to this channel, you're either planning a trip to California, or you're a resident looking for new places to check out. Today I'm going to share some of my Top 10 travel tips for visiting California like a local.
Tip No. 1: Book California State Park campgrounds exactly 7 months before you want to visit on http://www.ReserveAmerica.com. If you're hoping to score a busy holiday like the Fourth of July, reserve a few dates in the end of June, then add a few days to your visit. Securing a campground in Yosemite is also tricky. You'll need to log into http://www.Recreation.gov a few minutes before 7 a.m. on the 15th of the month — five months in advance of your visit. Popular campgrounds in the valley sell out in seconds! For example, if you want to book a stay between June 15 and July 14, you need to book on February 15.
Tip No. 2: If you're going to Disneyland, take advantage of the FastPass service. Just insert your park ticket into the kiosk for a designated FastPass ride and you'll receive a ticket allowing you to return later and cut the line. I've found it's handy to have one person gather all of your tickets to get the Fast Pass while you wait in line for another attraction. If you have kids too small to ride an attraction, the Baby Switch Pass is another good bet. Just ask a cast member for the pass at the entrance. Make sure you ride the most popular attractions right when the park opens. Knott's has a similar service called FastLane, but you have to pay for it.
Tip No. 3: Avoid traveling in the summer if you can. Most of the amusement parks are packed to capacity, with long lines and hot waits in the sun. The fall and winter sees much fewer crowds, and the hotels are cheaper too.
Tip No. 4: Get on the Groupon list for each city you are visiting. You'll be able to get discounts on some really cool attractions and restaurants you may not have considered before. If you want great hotel rates, check out sites like Priceline or Hotel Tonight for last-minute lodging.
Tip No. 5: If you plan on visiting several theme parks or attractions, look into the Go Card or City Pass. They offer discounts on many of the most popular sights in LA, San Diego and San Francisco. If you're a Costco member, many warehouses sell discount tickets to theme parks, restaurants and sporting events.
Tip. No. 6: If there's an expensive restaurant you want to try, go during happy hour. Often you'll get to sample their best dishes and drinks at half the price.
Tip No. 7: Families should plan their San Diego vacations in October, when the city hosts its Kids Free month. Many of the area's most popular attractions, including San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park and Balboa Park are free for kids 12 and under.
Tip No. 8: If your favorite hotel or campground is booked, try again seven days in advance. This is when many people cancel their reservations to avoid penalties.
Tip No. 9: If you're heading to more than one of the seven California national parks, consider getting the annual pass for $80. Admission is free for all the parks in April during National Parks Week, and in November during Veterans Day weekend.
Tip No. 10: For the best fares, book your trip midweek for flights departing and arriving on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The cheapest rates can often be found online between 10 p.m. Wednesdays and 6 a.m. Thursdays around the 7th of each month. Additionally, the cheapest fares are found 7, 14 and 21 days before you leave.

Stop by the San Diego Zoo and spend some time with the many animals taking up residence there – including some of the few pandas outside of China.
Explore San Diego’s ties to the sea by touring the U.S.S. Midway, Navy Pier, and Maritime Museum. From there, it’s just a skip across the bay to Coronado, where you can lay out in the sun and soak up some rays in a quiet beach town.
Round out your day with a trip to “the jewel,” better known as La Jolla, and indulge in some of the best seafood and Mexican food you’ll find anywhere. Don’t forget to say “Hi” to the sea lions.

Ferraro's Frustration Ends At Firestone
"Where's the white jacket?" Dave Ferraro asked shortly after winning the $250,000 Firestone Tournament of Champions to end a frustrating 17 months in which he'd been absent from the winner's circle. Ferraro, Kingston, N.Y., was top-seeded for the ABC Sports televised championship finals and defeated best friend and roommate Tony Westlake, Edmond, Okla., 226-203.
Ferraro, who pocketed the $50,000 first prize for his fifth PBA title, was anxious to be fitted for the traditional white blazer emblematic of winning pro bowling's most exclusive tournament.
Westlake had just come off an impressive 258-209 thumping of defending Firestone champ Del Ballard Jr., Richardson, Texas, in the semifinal and looked to be well on his way toward improving one place from his only other Firestone appearance (runner-up in 1988). Westlake opened with a double, and Ferraro immediately found trouble by missing the 2-10 split in his first frame. Down by 21 pins through three frames, Ferraro then unleashed a five-bagger, while Westlake managed a double mid-match for the only other strikes of his game. Westlake then sealed his fate by missing a 4-pin conversion in the ninth and came away with $28,000 for second place.
"This is something nobody will forget," Ferraro said. "I'm not saying I'm going to the Hall of Fame, but this is a step toward it. Just look at the guys inducted this week-Marshall Holman and Joe Berardi both won the Firestone."
Ohio continues to be a favorable site for Ferraro's success, having claimed three of his five PBA crowns in the Buckeye state. In fact, Ferraro chose the scarlet and gray of Ohio State when selecting the colors for his PBA champion's banner to be displayed at all tournaments in which he competes.
When asked to account for his shortcomings in the championship game, Westlake said, "My ball was hitting half-pocket and Dave's hits were all flush, so he deserved to win. Having qualified for the telecast in the last three tournaments I bowled, I expected to bowl well here."
Both finalists complimented each other's matching lifestyle as roommates.
"We don't like to stay up late and we do have a lot of similarities," Ferraro said.
Westlake joked, "He exercises a lot and I don't. About his missed 4-pin, he said, "Even Larry Bird misses a free throw sometimes."
All five finalists agreed justice had been served in the field retaining their qualifying positions following the championship round.
In the opening game, Don Genalo of Perrysburg, Ohio, defeated Mark Baker, Huntington Beach, Calif., 227-182. Genalo then bowed to Ballard, 220190, and ended the week $15,000 richer for fourth place.

U.S. Men's Junior Team Falls to Iran in Five
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 6, 2009) -- The U.S. Men's Junior Volleyball Team put up a fight, but it wasn't enough as it fell to Iran, 2-3 (25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 25-20, 10-15) on Thursday at the FIVB Men's Junior (U-21) World Championships at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune, India.
With the loss, the U.S. Men's Junior Team falls to 0-3 in Pool F and 2-4 overall. It will play in the classification matches to determine places five-eight this weekend along with Iran (1-2). Brazil won the pool with a 3-0 record and Cuba finished second at 2-1. Both will move on to the semifinals.
The United States' Tony Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led all scorers with 21 points on a match-high 17 kills, two blocks and two aces. Tyler Jaynes (Granite Bay, Calif.) added 15 points on seven kills, a match-high seven blocks and one ace. Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.) scored 12 points on nine kills and three aces.
"My congratulations to Iran," said U.S. Head Coach Shawn Patchell. "They played great and have a very mature team. I was most disappointed in our play in the second set. Iran served aggressively and we couldn't sustain any momentum."
Arash Kamalvand paced Iran with 19 points on 13 kills, three blocks and three aces.
Every member of the U.S. Men's Junior Team played in the match and every player scored except libero Erik Shoji (Honolulu, Hawai'i).
The two teams were very close statistically. Both finished with six aces. The United States had 15 blocks to Iran's 14. But the United States' percentage of successful kill attempts was 36.64 while Iran's was 43.8. Iran scored on 35 U.S. errors while committing only 30.
Among other U.S. scorers, Tri Bourne (Honolulu, Hawai'i) scored seven points on three kills and four blocks. Nick Vogel (El Cajon, Calif.) finished with five points on five kills. Joe Kauliakamoa (Las Vegas, Nev.) added three points on two kills and one block. Tom Amberg (El Cajon, Calif.) and Rusty Lavaja (St. Charles, Ill.) each scored two points on two kills. Brad Lawson (Honolulu, Hawai'i) scored one point on a block while Joe Sunder (Greensburg, Pa.) scored one point on a kill.
Kauliakamoa was credited with 32 running sets and one fault on 107 attempts. Shoji was credited with 12 digs and four faults on 24 attempts and with 12 excellent receptions and one fault on 19 attempts. Bourne was credited with 25 excellent receptions and one fault in 49 attempts.
Patchell started Troy, Bourne and Ciarelli at outside hitter, Vogel and Jaynes at middle blocker, Kauliakamoa at setter and Shoji at libero. Lavaja started the third set at middle blocker and Amberg started the fifth set at outside hitter. Lawson and Sunder played as substitutes.

The discovery was made by Swedish firm Interspectral, which carried out 3D CT scans on the crocodile. A previous study in the 1990s had revealed the enormous adult was in fact accompanied by a second crocodile, but failed to spot the individually wrapped babies – of which there appear to be at least 47. Curator Lara Weiss believes the reptiles were probably mummified as an offering to the crocodile god Sobek, BBC News reports....
