PT/INR vs aPTT (PTT) Nursing Explained NCLEX Lab Values
PT/INR vs. aPTT (PTT) nursing review lecture for students.
The PT/INR and aPTT are blood tests used to assess how fast the blood clots. These coagulation tests share some similarities and differences, which will be discussed in this review.
The pt/inr assesses the extrinsic and common pathways of the coagulation cascade. Therefore, it assesses clotting factors: I, II, V, X (clotting factors of the common pathways), and factor VII (clotting factor of the extrinsic pathway).
The aPTT assess the intrinsic and common pathways of the coagulation cascade. Therefore, it assesses clotting factors: : I, II, V, X (clotting factors of the common pathways), and XII, XI, IX, VIII (clotting factors of the intrinsic pathway).
The pt/inr and aptt are helpful in assessing for clotting disorders and mo...

PT/INR Normal Range Nursing Lab Values for NCLEX
The PT/INR is a blood test used to assess how fast the blood clots. It assesses the extrinsic and common pathway of the coagulation cascade. Therefore, the PT/INR assesses clotting Factors VII, I, II, V, and X. Overall, the PT/INR will tell us how well the extrinsic and common pathway work to form a clot and how fast prothrombin turns into thrombin.
Factor V helps prothrombin turn into thrombin. Thrombin plays a vital role in clotting because it helps fibrinogen turn into fibrin. Fibrin is a major player in clot formation because it’s made up of mesh-like strands that helps substances stick together, hence form a clot.
PT stands for prothrombin (time) and INR stands for international normalized ration. The INR is calculated from the PT level and is used in monitoring Warfarin (Coumadi...

INR (International Normalised Ratio) Calculation & Intepretation I Coagulation Tests
This video briefly explains how to calculate and intepret INR. INR which stands for the international normalised ratio, is a laboratory measurement of how long it takes blood to form a clot. It is used to determine the effects of oral anticoagulants on the clotting system.
When the INR is higher than the recommended range, it means that your blood clots more slowly than desired, and a lower INR means your blood clots more quickly than desire. In healthy people an INR of 1.1 or below is considered normal. An INR range of 2.0 to 3.0 is generally an effective therapeutic range for people taking warfarin for disorders such as atrial fibrillation or a blood clot in the leg or lung

The PT/INR is used to monitor patients who are taking Warfarin/Coumadin. On the other hand, the aPTT Is used to monitor patients who are on Heparin.

Platelet count is one of the lab tests used by a doctor or a hematologist to assess whether your platelet number is normal, low (thrombocytopenia) or high (thrombocytosis).
Bleeding 🩸 time (BT) is another test for platelet function.
