This song was multitrack recorded on the night of Dec 8th 1980 as a way to express what I was feeling when John Lennon was killed. The original recording was on Ampex Grand master tape with the black backing so if you do a internet search you will find that the tape has a major problem over time with the oxide comeing off and sticking to the black backing. I was able to save the organ, guitar and string synth tracks, I have added kick drum, high hat, toms and over doubed the vocals so that the words can be understood. The lyrics reference John's music, mother and beliefs as I felt them. Preformed by P.O.M.

"Not Fade Away" is a song credited to Buddy Holly (originally under his first and middle names, Charles Hardin) and Norman Petty (although Petty's co-writing credit is most likely a formality and first recorded by Holly's band The Crickets.

The following artists have released the song as a 45 single: Dick and Dee Dee on Warner Bros. Records in 1964, The Jaybirds on Embassy in 1964, Corporate Image on MGM in 1966, Group Axis on ATCO in 1969, Rubberband on American Pla-Boy, Jumpin' Beans & the Moustaches on Ball, The Why Four on Rampro, Frank White on Fantasy in 1973, Fumble on RCA in 1974, and Bo Diddley in 1976 on RCA Victor. Quicksilver Messenger Service covered the song on their live album At the Kabuki Theatre.
The Grateful Dead recorded the song and performed it in concert 530 times, making it their seventh-most performed song.[9] Versions of the song are included on the Skull and Roses (1971) and Rare Cuts and Oddities 1966 albums. Bobby Fuller recorded the song in 1962 which he released as a 45 single on Eastwood Records. Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jack White, Tony Sheridan, Steve Hillage, Joe Ely, Jon Bon Jovi, Patti Smith, James Taylor, Deep Purple, U2, Warren Zevon, Stephen Stills, Los Lobos, Black Oak Arkansas, Sheryl Crow and Simon and Garfunkel have played it in concert.
The Beatles performed the song live during the January, 1969 Get Back/Let It Be sessions in London with John Lennon and George Harrison on vocals.[10]
Tanya Tucker included a funky, rock 'n roll version of "Not Fade Away" on her 1978 album, TNT. One of the best versions ever recorded and arguably the hardest-rockin' song of her career.
Queen performed the song live in concert at Wembley Arena in the UK in 1984 with Freddie Mercury on vocals.
James Taylor recorded a cover version on his 2008 album Covers. The Supremes recorded a version in 1964, but it was unreleased until 2008.[11] A cover of the song recorded by British band Florence + the Machine is featured on the 2011 release Rave on Buddy Holly, a tribute album featuring performances of Holly's music by various artists.
The Everly Brothers recorded the song in 1972 on RCA Victor and released it as a single.
Connie Francis recorded the song on her 1996 album release With Love to Buddy, a tribute album to Buddy Holly.
Besides the Rolling Stones and Sheryl Crow, two other artists have had chart hits in the U.S. with this song: Tanya Tucker peaked at no. 70 on the U.S. Billboard pop singles chart in 1979, and a new wave-ish take by British artist Eric Hine who peaked at no. 73 on the U.S. Billboard pop singles chart in 1981.
Mick Fleetwood recorded a cover of the song in Accra, Ghana, West Africa for his solo album The Visitor in 1981.
John Hiatt makes reference to the song in Slow Turning; the phrase, "Not fade away," is repeated several times after the chorus.
Stevie Nicks contributed a cover version for the tribute album, Listen to Me: Buddy Holly, released in Sept 2011.
The tune has been used (with similar, spoken lyrics) to advertise Scotch video cassettes.

John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English singer and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as a co-founder of the band the Beatles, the most commercially successful band in the history of popular music. With fellow member Paul McCartney, he formed a celebrated songwriting partnership.
Born and raised in Liverpool, Lennon became involved in the skiffle craze as a teenager; his first band, the Quarrymen, evolved into the Beatles in 1960. John Lennon (Royal Navy officer)
John Lennon (1768–1846), was a naval captain, born at Downpatrick, Northern Ireland in 1768. He is stated to have served as a midshipman in the British Royal Navy during the American Revolution. In 1796, when in command of the schooner Favorite of Martinique, carrying letters of marque, he was very severely wounded, and his ship was taken, after a fierce engagement of one hour and twenty minutes' duration, by a French privateer of very superior force.
In 1798 he was in command of the General Keppel, also of Martinique, which was capsized in a white squall on passage from Philadelphia, when Lennon and some of his crew were rescued by a passing schooner, after suffering great perils and hardships. Lennon performed various daring feats in the West Indies in 1806–9; but his most remarkable exploits were in the Hibernia, a Cowes-built barque, carrying six guns and about twenty-two men and boys all told, in which he traded for some years from the West India island of St. Thomas. In 1812 orders were issued that no vessels should leave the island without convoy, on account of the American privateers. The Hibernia and three other merchantmen, whose aggregate cargoes were valued at half a million sterling, had long been waiting. Unwilling to detain them further, Governor Maclean agreed to their sailing without convoy, on condition of Lennon hoisting his pennant as commodore. Although harassed by the Rossie, Commodore Joshua Barney, an American privateer of superior force, Lennon brought his vessels safe into the English Channel on 18 October 1812.

Not Fade Away (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album)
Not Fade Away is the 1992 album from The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (aka The Dirt Band) is notable for having many charting albums and singles. Two singles from this album charted. "I Fought the Law" reached 66 on the US Country charts. "One Good Love" reached 74 on the US Country charts.
Suzy Bogguss appears as guest vocalist on "Don't Underestimate Love". They also appeared on her 1992 album Voices In The Wind.

Crickets' version
They recorded the song in Clovis, New Mexico, on May 27, 1957, the same day the song "Everyday" was recorded. The song's rhythm pattern is a variant of the Bo Diddley beat (with the second stress occurring on the second, rather than third beat of the first measure) which itself was an update of the so-called "hambone" rhythm, or "patted juba" from Western Africa; Crickets drummer Jerry Allison pounded out the beat on a cardboard box. Allison, Holly's best friend, also claims to have written part of the lyrics, though his name never appeared in the songwriting credits. The other performer on the song was Joe Mauldin on double bass. The backing vocalists on the recording are most likely Holly, Allison, and Niki Sullivan, although this is not known for certain.

Death of John Lennon

John Lennon was an English musician who gained worldwide fame as one of the members of the Beatles, for his subsequent solo career, and for his political activism and pacifism. He was shot by Mark David Chapman in the archway of the building where he lived, The Dakota, in New York City on 8 December 1980. Lennon had just returned from Record Plant Studio with his wife, Yoko Ono.
After sustaining four major gunshot wounds, Lennon was pronounced dead on arrival at Roosevelt Hospital. He was 40 years old. At the hospital, it was stated that nobody could have lived for more than a few minutes after sustaining such injuries. Shortly after local news stations reported Lennon's death, crowds gathered at Roosevelt Hospital and in front of the Dakota. Lennon was cremated on December 10, 1980 at the Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York; the ashes were given to Ono, who chose not to hold a funeral for him. The first media report of Lennon's death to a US national audience was announced by Howard Cosell, on ABC's Monday Night Football.

Tribute song FADE AWAY J , for John Lennon
This song was multitrack recorded on the night of Dec 8th 1980 as a way to express what I was feeling when John Lennon was killed. The original recording was on Ampex Grand master tape with the black backing so if you do a internet search you will find that the tape has a major problem over time with the oxide comeing off and sticking to the black backing. I was able to save the organ, guitar and string synth tracks, I have added kick drum, high hat, toms and over doubed the vocals so that the words can be understood. The lyrics reference John's music, mother and beliefs as I felt them. Preformed by P.O.M.

This song was multitrack recorded on the night of Dec 8th 1980 as a way to express what I was feeling when John Lennon was killed. The original recording was on Ampex Grand master tape with the black backing so if you do a internet search you will find that the tape has a major problem over time with the oxide comeing off and sticking to the black backing. I was able to save the organ, guitar and string synth tracks, I have added kick drum, high hat, toms and over doubed the vocals so that the words can be understood. The lyrics reference John's music, mother and beliefs as I felt them. Preformed by P.O.M.

The Everly Brothers recorded the song in 1972 on RCA Victor and released it as a single.

Besides the Rolling Stones and Sheryl Crow, two other artists have had chart hits in the U.S. with this song: Tanya Tucker peaked at no. 70 on the U.S. Billboard pop singles chart in 1979, and a new wave-ish take by British artist Eric Hine who peaked at no. 73 on the U.S. Billboard pop singles chart in 1981.
Mick Fleetwood recorded a cover of the song in Accra, Ghana, West Africa for his solo album The Visitor in 1981.

John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English singer and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as a co-founder of the band the Beatles, the most commercially successful band in the history of popular music. With fellow member Paul McCartney, he formed a celebrated songwriting partnership.
Born and raised in Liverpool, Lennon became involved in the skiffle craze as a teenager; his first band, the Quarrymen, evolved into the Beatles in 1960. When the group disbanded in 1970, Lennon embarked on a solo career that produced the critically acclaimed albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance", "Working Class Hero", and "Imagine". After his marriage to Yoko Ono in 1969, he changed his name to John Ono Lennon. Lennon disengaged himself from the music business in 1975 to raise his infant son Sean, but re-emerged with Ono in 1980 with the new album Double Fantasy. He was murdered three weeks after its release.
