Sport of Kings - An Award Winning Falconry Video by Project Upland
When we think of training gun dogs we never think of having to work with a bird outside retrieving, flushing, and pointing. But in a small and unique community of Falconry training, a gun dog hunting with a bird of prey is the norm. Surprisingly, you will hear it is not the dog that needs to learn to not eat the bird. It’s the bird who needs to learn—learn the dog isn’t going to eat him. We ventured into the field with MassWildlife and the Massachusetts Falconry and Hawk Trust to see first hand the oldest field sport.
We are humbled to announce that our film "Sport of Kings" won the Monocular Video Awards of 2017 in the "Best Professional Hunting Video" Category. It was an honor to have had our film next to so many talented filmmakers and respected brands.

The Ultimate Falconry Competition
Once a year in breathtaking Rush Valley, falconers gather for one of the most high caliber competitions in the sport. Only the best falcons and their falconers compete. Pioneered by Gerald Richards in the 1970s; Gerald made it very clear that this event was not falconry but a way for falconers to showcase the prowess of their game-hawks at the end of their falconry season.
This year, long-time Utah falconer Steve Chindgren placed both first and second with his high-flying, hard-hitting Gyr x Peregrine tiercels, Badger and DC. Jon Taylor placed third with a female Gyr x Red-naped Shaheen. Many thanks to the other contestants who provided such an incredible weekend of high-flying falcons.

Prioritizing the local, the authentic, the sustainable and the timeless, we tell real stories that implicitly question the modern mode of living, and its relationship to nature in particular.
