Noah Raymond Brickley (born February 10, 1978), better known by his stage name Noah23, is a Canadian-American hip hop artist from Guelph, Ontario, currently based in Los Angeles, California. He is co-founder of the Plague Language collective and record label, and has been described as "one of Canada's best, most underrated MCs".
Noah Raymond Brickly was born in 1978 in Natchez, Mississippi, and moved to Guelph, Ontario at the age of 4. He began rapping in the early 1990s and released his first album, originally entitled Plague Language, in 1999. This album, initially released on cassette, was remastered and released on CD in 2006 under the name Cytoplasm Pixel.
In the late 1990s, Noah23 started the record label Plague Language with producer Orphan (real name Kingston Maguire, who went on to become one half of production duo Blue Sky Black Death). In the early 2000s the Plague Language label released music from artists such as Baracuda,Livestock,Orko the Sycotik Alien,Penny, The Main, and Madadam. In 2004, following the departure of Orphan, the label entered into a period of indefinite hiatus. Plague Language continues to exist, however, as both an imprint on associated Canadian label Legendary Entertainment and as a loose collective of Guelph-based hip-hop artists.
Clout was an original all-female South African rock group formed in 1977, best known for their hit single, "Substitute".
Clout's first and biggest hit, "Substitute", was a new arrangement of a Righteous Brothers song, composed by Willie Wilson. In 1978, their version reached No. 1 in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Denmark and Belgium. It also reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart and remained in the UK charts for 15 weeks. Due to sanctions against South African artists and performers by UK's Equity at the time, the BBC's Top of the Pops TV programme acquired a video clip from the Netherlands to present the hit song for its top ten countdown.
A major success in Europe, Clout scored more Top 10 singles, notably "Save Me", "You've Got All of Me" and "Under Fire".
Clout's "Substitute" reached No. 67 on the USA Billboard Hot 100.
Clout split up in 1981, shortly after the release of their last major single, a re-arrangement of the Hall and Oates song "Portable Radio".
Sam, you've been waiting
Much too long now
It looks like she's
Not coming home
Sam, you've been
Loyal, true and faithful
All this time with being alone
If I could get that same dedication
I'd give you everything in creation
If she doesn't come back
(If she doesn't come back)
[CHORUS]
I'll be your substitute
Whenever you want me
Don't you know
I'll be your substitute
Whenever you need me
Sam, every day you waited for her
I've been waiting here for you
Sam, all this time I've been lonely
I know what you've been going through
I'll wait until my chances occur
Cause you can't keep relying on her
If she doesn't come back
(If she doesn't come back)
[Repeat CHORUS]
Each day by your window
You sit and sigh
Hoping to see her face
Aw, you might as well
Forget about her and find
Someone to take her place
(If she doesn't come back)
[Repeat CHORUS]
Don't you know
I'll be your substitute
Whenever you want me
Don't you know
I'll be your substitute
Whenever you need me
Don't you know
I'll be your substitute
Whenever you want me
Don't you know
