Dallas

Dallas (/ˈdæləs/) is a major city in the state of Texas and is the largest urban center of the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States. The city proper ranks ninth in the U.S. and third in Texas after Houston and San Antonio. The city's prominence arose from its historical importance as a center for the oil and cotton industries, and its position along numerous railroad lines. The bulk of the city is in Dallas County, of which it is the county seat; however, sections of the city are located in Collin, Denton, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties. According to the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 1,197,816. The United States Census Bureau's estimate for the city's population increased to 1,281,047, as of 2014.

Dallas is a role-playing game published by Simulations Publications, Inc. in 1980.

Description

Dallas is a TV soap-opera/crime system in which the PCs are major characters from the Dallas series interacting in "plots." Character abilities include power, persuasion, coercion, seduction, investigation, and luck; ability scores are compared and dice are rolled to determine the results of actions. The game includes the "Rules of Play" (16 pages), "Major Characters" booklet (16 pages), and the "Scriptwriter's Guide" (16 pages) for the GM, plus dozens of minor characters on cut-apart cards.

Publication history

Dallas was designed by James F. Dunnigan, with art by Redmond A. Simonsen, and published by Simulations Publications, Inc. in 1980 as a boxed set containing three 16-page books, two sheets of cards, and dice.

In an attempt to expand its customer base even further beyond the "hobbyist" core, SPI entered into a much-publicized arrangement with Lorimar Productions to produce the Dallas role-playing game based on the soap opera Dallas in 1980.Dallas: The Television Role-Playing Game was the first ever licensed role-playing game. The game proved to be an infamous failure, and Simonsen later remarked that the 80,000 copies printed were 79,999 too many.

Dallas (jeep)

The Dallas Jeep was a Dallas car model designed by Jean-Claude Hrubon.

The Jeep Dallas was built on a Renault 4 chassis, shortened by 47 cm and equipped with the engine of the Renault 4 GTL, a 1106 cc 34ch. Its body was designed in the spirit of the Willys MB U.S. military, called "Jeep", with proportions that were his own. The Dallas was named in December 1981 and was presented at the Salon de l'Automobile Porte de Versailles, 1982. It is marketed mainly in two-wheel drive (front); a 4x4 model (with SINPAR transmission) is also in the catalog.

In 1983, Jean-François Grandin, alias Frank Alamo, purchased the factory, and after 2 years, "Grandin Automobiles" became the third French manufacturer.

From 1981 to 1984, Dallas had a steel body, and from 1984 the hull was made of polyester with less army-like style.

In 1987, the Dallas jeep changed: it adopted a new galvanized chassis and a fiberglass body, and was equipped with a PSA engine, making it a vehicle without any problems of corrosion and reliability.

Dallas (1978 TV series) (season 9)

The ninth season of the television series Dallas aired on during the 1985–1986 TV season. As the entire season was annulled as a dream of character Pamela Barnes Ewing in the Season 10 premiere, it has since been referred to as "the Dream Year" or "the Dream Season".

The Texas (locomotive)

Western & Atlantic Railroad #49 "Texas" is a 4-4-0 "American" type steam locomotive built in 1856 for the Western & Atlantic Railroad by Danforth, Cooke & Co.. The Texas is widely known for being involved in the Great Locomotive Chase during the American Civil War as the engine that successfully pursued the General locomotive after it was stolen by Union saboteurs in an attempt to ruin the Confederate rail system. The locomotive is currently preserved at the Atlanta Cyclorama building within Grant Park in Atlanta, Georgia, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It will be restored and relocated to the Atlanta History Center in 2016.

Antebellum

The Texas was built in October 1856 for the Western & Atlantic Railroad by locomotive manufacturer Danforth, Cooke and Company in Paterson, New Jersey. It was subsequently shipped from Paterson to the Port of Savannah, traveled the Georgia Rail Road & Banking Company and Macon & Western Railroad, before finally being delivered to the W&A headquarters in Atlanta that same year.

Texas Homecare

Texas Homecare was a chain of DIY stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland, that operated from 1972 until 1999.

History

Texas Homecare was established in 1972, by Manny, Sydney and Gerald Fogel, who had previously founded the high street specialist paint and wallpaper chain Home Charm. Taking their lead from America, they revolutionised the United Kingdom DIY market, with the introduction of the 'DIY shed' style outlet. Mervyn Fogel, co-founder and managing director for over 25 years, had a vision of turning the small family business into a DIY retail empire.

Texas specialised in higher volume, lower margin DIY products. The company had been adversely affected, by a recession and depressed housing market.

Acquisition

With its acquisition, Homebase hoped to hold around 10% of the total DIY market in the United Kingdom. In May 1995, it was announced that only 26 Texas stores were to close, with limited redundancies. Sainsbury's found that full conversion to the Homebase format was an investment worth making, and allowed £50 million for the task.

2013 International V8 Supercars Championship

The 2013 International V8 Supercars Championship was an FIA-sanctioned international motor racing series for V8 Supercars that was based in Australia. It was the fifteenth running of the V8 Supercar Championship Series and the seventeenth series in which V8 Supercars contested the premier Australian touring car title. The championship was contested over thirty-six races, starting with the Clipsal 500 Adelaide on 2 March 2013, and finishing with the Sydney 500 on 8 December. The series' calendar also expanded, travelling to the United States for the first time for a race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

The 2013 season saw the introduction of the "New Generation V8 Supercar", a revision to the regulations which were designed to cut costs and to make the series more attractive to new manufacturers.Nissan and Mercedes-Benz entered the series, with four Nissan Altimas being prepared by Kelly Racing and three Mercedes-Benz E63 AMGs being run by Erebus Motorsport — who purchased Stone Brothers Racing during the off-season — respectively.Holden teams competed with the new VF Commodore, which replaces the VE model, whilst Ford continued to use the FG Falcon, which had been raced since 2009, but built to New Generation V8 Supercar specifications for the 2013 season.
