Traditionally, geography is studied as two interconnected parts: physical geography and human geography. For the first half of this series, we will be focusing on physical geography, which is all about recognizing the characteristics of the environment and the processes that create, modify, and destroy those environments. But remember, human-environment interactions are fundamental to studying geography so we won't be ignoring human impact, it just won't be the primary lens we're using to view the world. Today, we'll explore erosional gullies in Madagascar as we discuss the world's dynamic landscape, the Great Barrier Reef as we introduce the four major earth system (the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere), and we'll finish with a deep dive into Iceland as we introduce the major realms of physical geography. (These are geographer specializations that you may have heard about like topography, geomorphology, pedology, hydrology, climatology, oceanography, meteorology, and biogeography.)

In this upcoming series I will be investigating the basic principles and skills that everyone studying Geography needs to understand.
I will be working through the main skills associated with Geography, such as compass bearings, relief, longitude and latitude, Ordnance survey maps and grid references.
I will also take a look at the basic understanding you should have on the Geography of the UK, Europe and the main continents and oceans of the world.
To start with let's discuss What is Geography?
Geography is the study of the different places, countries, climates and vegetation around the world. It also explores the relationship that humans have with these environments and how we use the available resources.
Physical Geography concentrates on the physical environment and the natural processes of the earth.
- This includes investigating different landscapes and landforms such as mountains.
- The different processes involved with the different oceans, coastlines and river environments.
- The variety of weather and climate we may see around the globe and how that affects the different ecosystems, ranging from the extreme heat of the desert to extreme cold of Antarctica.
- A huge variety of natural disasters and how they affect people and animals
Human Geography looks at how people and different cultures are distributed across the world and how they interact with their surrounding environment.
This will include urbanisation and settlements. Asking the question of why we have settled in communities and why there is a growing trend of more people moving to cities.
This links in with the study of Populations and densely populated areas.
Development of different countries. Why is there a gap between High Income countries and Low Income Countries. The differences in quality of life to people around the world.
Lastly human geography looks at the impact of what the economy, jobs and tourism has on the wellbeing of people, cities and countries.

Physical geography
Physical geography (also known as geosystems or physiography) is one of the two major sub-fields of geography. Physical geography is that branch of natural science which deals with the study of processes and patterns in the natural environment like the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and geosphere, as opposed to the cultural or built environment, the domain of human geography.
Within the body of physical geography, the Earth is often split into several spheres or environments, the main spheres being the atmosphere, biosphere, cryosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and pedosphere. Research in physical geography is often interdisciplinary and uses the systems approach.

In this upcoming series I will be investigating the basic principles and skills that everyone studying Geography needs to understand.
I will be working through the main skills associated with Geography, such as compass bearings, relief, longitude and latitude, Ordnance survey maps and grid references.
I will also take a look at the basic understanding you should have on the Geography of the UK, Europe and the main continents and oceans of the world.
To start with let's discuss What is Geography?
Geography is the study of the different places, countries, climates and vegetation around the world. It also explores the relationship that humans have with these environments and how we use the available resources.
Physical Geography concentrates on the physical environment and the natural processes of the earth.
- This includes investigating different landscapes and landforms such as mountains.
- The different processes involved with the different oceans, coastlines and river environments.
- The variety of weather and climate we may see around the globe and how that affects the different ecosystems, ranging from the extreme heat of the desert to extreme cold of Antarctica.
- A huge variety of natural disasters and how they affect people and animals
Human Geography looks at how people and different cultures are distributed across the world and how they interact with their surrounding environment.
This will include urbanisation and settlements. Asking the question of why we have settled in communities and why there is a growing trend of more people moving to cities.
This links in with the study of Populations and densely populated areas.
Development of different countries. Why is there a gap between High Income countries and Low Income Countries. The differences in quality of life to people around the world.
Lastly human geography looks at the impact of what the economy, jobs and tourism has on the wellbeing of people, cities and countries.

Traditionally, geography is studied as two interconnected parts: physical geography and human geography. For the first half of this series, we will be focusing on physical geography, which is all about recognizing the characteristics of the environment and the processes that create, modify, and destroy those environments. But remember, human-environment interactions are fundamental to studying geography so we won't be ignoring human impact, it just won't be the primary lens we're using to view the world. Today, we'll explore erosional gullies in Madagascar as we discuss the world's dynamic landscape, the Great Barrier Reef as we introduce the four major earth system (the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere), and we'll finish with a deep dive into Iceland as we introduce the major realms of physical geography. (These are geographer specializations that you may have heard about like topography, geomorphology, pedology, hydrology, climatology, oceanography, meteorology, and biogeography.)

In this upcoming series I will be investigating the basic principles and skills that everyone studying Geography needs to understand.
I will be working through the main skills associated with Geography, such as compass bearings, relief, longitude and latitude, Ordnance survey maps and grid references.
I will also take a look at the basic understanding you should have on the Geography of the UK, Europe and the main continents and oceans of the world.
To start with let's discuss What is Geography?
Geography is the study of the different places, countries, climates and vegetation around the world. It also explores the relationship that humans have with these environments and how we use the available resources.
Physical Geography concentrates on the physical environment and the natural processes of the earth.
- This includes investigating different landscapes and landforms such as mountains.
- The different processes involved with the different oceans, coastlines and river environments.
- The variety of weather and climate we may see around the globe and how that affects the different ecosystems, ranging from the extreme heat of the desert to extreme cold of Antarctica.
- A huge variety of natural disasters and how they affect people and animals
Human Geography looks at how people and different cultures are distributed across the world and how they interact with their surrounding environment.
This will include urbanisation and settlements. Asking the question of why we have settled in communities and why there is a growing trend of more people moving to cities.
This links in with the study of Populations and densely populated areas.
Development of different countries. Why is there a gap between High Income countries and Low Income Countries. The differences in quality of life to people around the world.
Lastly human geography looks at the impact of what the economy, jobs and tourism has on the wellbeing of people, cities and countries.

Physical geography
Physical geography (also known as geosystems or physiography) is one of the two major sub-fields of geography. Physical geography is that branch of natural science which deals with the study of processes and patterns in the natural environment like the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and geosphere, as opposed to the cultural or built environment, the domain of human geography.
Within the body of physical geography, the Earth is often split into several spheres or environments, the main spheres being the atmosphere, biosphere, cryosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and pedosphere. Research in physical geography is often interdisciplinary and uses the systems approach.
