Director Spike Lee dives head-first into a maelstrom of racial and social ills, using as his springboard the hottest day of the year on one block in Brooklyn, NY. Three businesses dominate the block: a storefront radio station, where a smooth-talkin' deejay (Samuel L. Jackson) spins the platters that matter; a convenience store owned by a Korean couple; and Sal's Famous Pizzeria, the only white-operated business in the neighborhood. Sal (Danny Aiello) serves up slices with his two sons, genial Vito (Richard Edson) and angry, racist Pino (John Turturro). Sal has one black employee, Mookie (Spike Lee), who wants to "get paid" but lacks ambition. His sister Jade (Joie Lee, Spike's sister), who has a greater sense of purpose and a "real" job, wants Mookie to start dealing with his responsibilities, most notably his son with girlfriend Tina (Rosie Perez). Two of Mookie's best friends are Radio Raheem (Bill Nunn), a monolith of a man who rarely speaks, preferring to blast Public Enemy's rap song Fight The Power on his massive boom box; and Buggin' Out (Giancarlo Esposito), nicknamed for his coke-bottle glasses and habit of losing his cool. When Buggin' Out notes that Sal's "Wall of Fame," a photo gallery of famous Italian-Americans, includes no people of color, he eventually demands a neighborhood boycott, on a day when tensions are already running high, that incurs tragic consequences.

Giancarlo Esposito
Giancarlo Giuseppe Alessandro Esposito (born April 26, 1958) is an American actor and director. He is best known for his portrayal of Gustavo "Gus" Fring on the AMC series Breaking Bad, for which he won the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama award at the 2012 Critics' Choice Television Awards and was nominated for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards. He is well known for his roles in Spike Lee films such as Do the Right Thing, School Daze, and Mo' Better Blues. Other notable films include The Usual Suspects and King of New York. He has portrayed Sidney Glass/Magic Mirror on ABC's Once Upon a Time and Major Tom Neville in the NBC series Revolution.
Early life
Esposito was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, the son of an Italian father, Giovanni Esposito, and an African-American mother, Elizabeth Foster. His mother was an opera and nightclub singer from Alabama, and his father was a stagehand and carpenter from Naples. Esposito lived in Europe until the family settled in Manhattan when he was 6. He attended Elizabeth Seton College in New York and received a two-year degree in radio and television communications.

Elizabeth Mitchell
Elizabeth Mitchell (born March 27, 1970) is an American actress. She is best known for her role as Dr. Juliet Burke on the ABC series Lost. She also had lead roles on the TV series V and Revolution, and recurred as the Snow Queen on Once Upon A Time in late 2014. Mitchell has starred in such films as The Santa Clause 2 & 3, Gia and The Purge: Election Year.
Early life
Mitchell was born in Los Angeles, California. Her stepfather, Joseph Day Mitchell, and mother, Josephine Marian Mitchell (née Jenkins), are lawyers based in Dallas. Mitchell and her mother moved to Dallas, Texas in 1970, where her mother married Joseph Mitchell in 1975. Mitchell graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, a public magnet school. She is the eldest of three sisters, the others being Kristina Helen "Kristie" Mitchell (b. 1977), and Katherine Day "Kate" Mitchell (b. 1981).
She attended Stephens College, graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting, and then studied at the British American Drama Academy.

Libby Mitchell
Elizabeth H. "Libby" Mitchell (born Elizabeth Anne Harrill June 22, 1940 in South Carolina) is an American politician from Maine. Mitchell, a Democrat, represent part of Kennebec County in the Maine Senate from 2004 to 2010. Mitchell was also the Democrat's 2010 candidate for the office of Governor of Maine. She finished in third place behind Republican Paul LePage and unenrolled attorney Eliot Cutler. She is the only woman in United States history to have been elected as both Speaker of her state House of Representatives and president of her state Senate.
Career
Mitchell represented the 24th State Senate District from 2004-2010. She was also the Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives and as President of the Maine Senate (2008-2010), becoming the first woman in the United States to have held both positions, and only the third person ever to do so. Mitchell was a member of the Maine House of Representatives from 1974 through 1984. She ran for the U.S. Senate in 1984, earning 24% of the vote against incumbent William Cohen. From 1986 to 1990, Mitchell served as director of the Maine State Housing Authority. She also ran for the U.S. Congress in the 1990 Democratic Primary, finishing third with 17% of the vote. She was again elected to the Maine State Legislature in 1990, and served through 1998. She was Speaker of the House from 1997 through 1998. In 2004, she was elected to serve Maine's 24th district in the senate, and on December 3, 2008 she was unanimously elected as Maine’s 113th Senate President.

Revolution (TV series)
Revolution is an American post-apocalyptic science fiction television series that ran from September 17, 2012 until May 21, 2014; it was cancelled by NBC in May 2014. The show takes place in the post-apocalyptic near-future of the year 2027, 15 years after the start of a worldwide, permanent electrical-power blackout in 2012. Created by Eric Kripke and produced by J. J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions for the NBC network, it originally aired on Mondays at 10:00 pm (ET) doing well enough that NBC ordered a second season shortly after the first season finale.
Film director Jon Favreau directed the pilot episode. In October 2012, NBC picked it up for a full season of 22 episodes, which was later reduced to 20 episodes. Season 1 of the show was filmed in and around Wilmington, North Carolina. Many of the scenes were shot in historic downtown Wilmington and on the campus of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. On April 26, 2013, the series was renewed by NBC for a second season of 22 episodes to air in a new time slot of Wednesdays at 8 pm. Season 2 of Revolution was filmed in and around Bartlett and Granger, Texas. The second season premiere aired on September 25, 2013, and the finale aired on May 21, 2014.

Billy Burke (actor)
William Albert "Billy" Burke (born November 25, 1966) is an American actor. He is known for his role as Charlie Swan in Twilight and its sequels. He is also known for his role as Gary Matheson in the Season 2 of 24. In 2011, he played Cesaire in Red Riding Hood. In 2012, he was cast as the lead character, Miles Matheson, in the NBC science-fiction series Revolution. He currently stars in Zoo.
Life and career
Burke was born in Bellingham, Washington. He is married to actress Pollyanna Rose; they have a daughter named Bluesy LaRue Burke.
His television credits include roles in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (in the episode "Second Skin"), Party of Five, Gilmore Girls, Karen Sisco, Fringe, Monk, and The Closer (Season 4, episode 13, "Power of Attorney" playing an attorney, who was a rapist and murder suspect, Phillip Stroh). He played Detective Eric Box in the film Untraceable.
His motion picture credits include Jane Austen's Mafia!, Along Came a Spider, Final Jeopardy, Flashpoint and Ladder 49. His upcoming film credits include The Fallen, Forfeit, Fracture, and Retirement. He appeared in Feast of Love (2007), co-starring Selma Blair and Morgan Freeman.

Tracy Spiridakos
Tracy Spiridakos (born February 20, 1988) is a Canadian actress. She starred as Becky Richards on the Teletoon children's comedy series Majority Rules! from 2009–2010. She then starred as Charlotte "Charlie" Matheson on the NBC post-apocalyptic science fiction series Revolution from 2012–2014, for which she was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television. She played Annika Johnson on the A&E television drama Bates Motel.
Life and career
Spiridakos was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Greek-born parents, restaurant owners George and Anastasia Spiridakos. She has two brothers. The family moved to her father's hometown, Skala, Greece near Sparta, a few years after she was born, and returned to Canada in 1992 when she was about nine. She strongly identifies with her Greek heritage and speaks fluent Greek.
Spiridakos began acting in junior high school, and studied at the Actors Training Centre of Manitoba. She graduated from Oak Park High School in Winnipeg in 2000. Spiridakos moved to Vancouver in 2007 to pursue acting, and within weeks landed her first television role, a small part on Supernatural. She continued working in television, with walk-on roles on Bionic Woman, The L Word, Hellcats, and Psych. Spiridakos appeared in the TV movie Goblin, and the web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. She also had a recurring role on Being Human as werewolf Brynn McLean.

Revolution
Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why? Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it? On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman's life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously - and unbeknownst to her - had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future.

Director Spike Lee dives head-first into a maelstrom of racial and social ills, using as his springboard the hottest day of the year on one block in Brooklyn, NY. Three businesses dominate the block: a storefront radio station, where a smooth-talkin' deejay (Samuel L. Jackson) spins the platters that matter; a convenience store owned by a Korean couple; and Sal's Famous Pizzeria, the only white-operated business in the neighborhood. Sal (Danny Aiello) serves up slices with his two sons, genial Vito (Richard Edson) and angry, racist Pino (John Turturro). Sal has one black employee, Mookie (Spike Lee), who wants to "get paid" but lacks ambition. His sister Jade (Joie Lee, Spike's sister), who has a greater sense of purpose and a "real" job, wants Mookie to start dealing with his responsibilities, most notably his son with girlfriend Tina (Rosie Perez). Two of Mookie's best friends are Radio Raheem (Bill Nunn), a monolith of a man who rarely speaks, preferring to blast Public Enemy's rap song Fight The Power on his massive boom box; and Buggin' Out (Giancarlo Esposito), nicknamed for his coke-bottle glasses and habit of losing his cool. When Buggin' Out notes that Sal's "Wall of Fame," a photo gallery of famous Italian-Americans, includes no people of color, he eventually demands a neighborhood boycott, on a day when tensions are already running high, that incurs tragic consequences.

Over the course of six beautiful albums in nearly 15 years, Elizabeth Mitchell has invited listeners to join her, husband Daniel Littleton, their daughter Storey, and other friends and relatives to become part of an extended musical family. On 'Blue Clouds,' she raises her special kind of family-centric music to new heights by bringing clarity and beauty to a surprising range of songs.
"This tale of courtship between a frog and a mouse has been sung so many different ways in the folk tradition. We recorded another version—slower, with a repeating, echoing 'uh-huh' throughout— many years ago on our album 'You Are My Sunshine.' I never loved the 'king kong kitchie' version until I started singing it with my students in a folk music class I was teaching this year. Something magical happened when I heard the children sing it this way. My friend Natalie taught me some verses I had never heard before, and it became clear that it was time to interpret the song again! I invited my friends Jay Ungar, Molly Mason, and Ruthy Ungar over to help me bring the music to life. Playing with this extraordinary family of musicians is an experience I will never forget. I changed the last verse from 'they now had wealth and children three' to 'they had good health and children three and they all lived happily ever after.'"

"I first heard this song on an album by Bessie Jones called Step It Down. Bessie was a member of the Georgia Sea Island Singers, a folk and gospel group who were recorded by Alan Lomax in the 1950s. Bessie's incredible music can only be matched by her work collecting and transmitting the songs and games of the Sea Islands for future generations. Storey learned this song in a music class taught by my good friend, Nancy Chusid. The song is accompanied by a dancing game where you stand in a circle, clap your hands to the beat, and call out for your friend to fly across the circle like a bird."
In 2010, Elizabeth Mitchell and You Are My Flower released "Sunny Day", their second Smithsonian Folkways album of "handmade" music of the finest kind, for folks of all ages.
A true family affair, Sunny Day features performances with Mitchell's husband and musical partner, Daniel Littleton, their nine-year-old daughter Storey, and Storey's cousins and friends.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Director Spike Lee dives head-first into a maelstrom of racial and social ills, using as his springboard the hottest day of the year on one block in Brooklyn, NY. Three businesses dominate the block: a storefront radio station, where a smooth-talkin' deejay (Samuel L. Jackson) spins the platters that matter; a convenience store owned by a Korean couple; and Sal's Famous Pizzeria, the only white-operated business in the neighborhood. Sal (Danny Aiello) serves up slices with his two sons, genial Vito (Richard Edson) and angry, racist Pino (John Turturro). Sal has one black employee, Mookie (Spike Lee), who wants to "get paid" but lacks ambition. His sister Jade (Joie Lee, Spike's sister), who has a greater sense of purpose and a "real" job, wants Mookie to start dealing with his responsibilities, most notably his son with girlfriend Tina (Rosie Perez). Two of Mookie's best friends are Radio Raheem (Bill Nunn), a monolith of a man who rarely speaks, preferring to blast Public Enemy's rap song Fight The Power on his massive boom box; and Buggin' Out (Giancarlo Esposito), nicknamed for his coke-bottle glasses and habit of losing his cool. When Buggin' Out notes that Sal's "Wall of Fame," a photo gallery of famous Italian-Americans, includes no people of color, he eventually demands a neighborhood boycott, on a day when tensions are already running high, that incurs tragic consequences.

Giancarlo Esposito
Giancarlo Giuseppe Alessandro Esposito (born April 26, 1958) is an American actor and director. He is best known for his portrayal of Gustavo "Gus" Fring on the AMC series Breaking Bad, for which he won the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama award at the 2012 Critics' Choice Television Awards and was nominated for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards. He is well known for his roles in Spike Lee films such as Do the Right Thing, School Daze, and Mo' Better Blues. Other notable films include The Usual Suspects and King of New York. He has portrayed Sidney Glass/Magic Mirror on ABC's Once Upon a Time and Major Tom Neville in the NBC series Revolution.
Early life
Esposito was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, the son of an Italian father, Giovanni Esposito, and an African-American mother, Elizabeth Foster. His mother was an opera and nightclub singer from Alabama, and his father was a stagehand and carpenter from Naples. Esposito lived in Europe until the family settled in Manhattan when he was 6. He attended Elizabeth Seton College in New York and received a two-year degree in radio and television communications.

Over the course of six beautiful albums in nearly 15 years, Elizabeth Mitchell has invited listeners to join her, husband Daniel Littleton, their daughter Storey, and other friends and relatives to become part of an extended musical family. "This tale of courtship between a frog and a mouse has been sung so many different ways in the folk tradition. We recorded another version—slower, with a repeating, echoing 'uh-huh' throughout— many years ago on our album 'You Are My Sunshine.' I never loved the 'king kong kitchie' version until I started singing it with my students in a folk music class I was teaching this year. Something magical happened when I heard the children sing it this way. My friend Natalie taught me some verses I had never heard before, and it became clear that it was time to interpret the song again! I invited my friends Jay Ungar, Molly Mason, and Ruthy Ungar over to help me bring the music to life. Playing with this extraordinary family of musicians is an experience I will never forget. I changed the last verse from 'they now had wealth and children three' to 'they had good health and children three and they all lived happily ever after.'"

"I first heard this song on an album by Bessie Jones called Step It Down. Bessie was a member of the Georgia Sea Island Singers, a folk and gospel group who were recorded by Alan Lomax in the 1950s. Bessie's incredible music can only be matched by her work collecting and transmitting the songs and games of the Sea Islands for future generations. Storey learned this song in a music class taught by my good friend, Nancy Chusid. The song is accompanied by a dancing game where you stand in a circle, clap your hands to the beat, and call out for your friend to fly across the circle like a bird."
In 2010, Elizabeth Mitchell and You Are My Flower released "Sunny Day", their second Smithsonian Folkways album of "handmade" music of the finest kind, for folks of all ages.
A true family affair, Sunny Day features performances with Mitchell's husband and musical partner, Daniel Littleton, their nine-year-old daughter Storey, and Storey's cousins and friends.
