First responder

A first responder is an employee of an emergency service who is likely to be among the first people to arrive at and assist at the scene of an emergency, such as an accident, natural disaster, or terrorist attack. First responders typically include police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians. A Certified first responder is one who has received certification to provide pre-hospital care in a certain jurisdiction: for example, the Certified First Responder in France. A community first responder is a person dispatched to attend medical emergencies until an ambulance arrives. A Wilderness First Responder is trained to provide pre-hospital care in remote settings, and will therefore have additional skills in ad hoc patient packaging and transport by non-motorized means.

Issues

First responders must be trained to deal with a wide array of potential medical emergencies. Because of the high level of stress and uncertainty associated with the position, first responders must maintain physical and mental health. Even with such preparation, first responders face unique risks of being the first people to aid those with unknown contagions. For example, in 2003 first responders were among the earliest victims of the previously unknown SARS virus, when they cared for patients affected with the virus.

Emergency 4: Global Fighters for Life

Emergency 4: Global Fighters for Life (known as 911: First Responders in North America) is a simulation video game allowing users to manage emergency services on a variety of accident and/or accident scenes.

Gameplay

The player becomes head of operations in a fictional rescue management organization in command of a number of vehicles and staff from the fire department medical rescue police and technical services. The player has to react to a variety of events against a background of continuous day/night rotation and constantly changing weather conditions.

The game includes 20 missions, the ability to manage a team of emergency response professionals, ability to manage a variety of emergency response vehicles, with mandatory free play intermissions at every interim, and the Endless and Challenge free play modes.

Emergency 4 boasts several improvements in user-friendliness over previous games in the Emergency series. For instance, it is possible to dispatch several vehicles at the same time, order them to arrive at a specific location, there's a simple counter for the number of casualties in the area of operations, and idle emergency physicians seek out nearby untended casualties.

The Unit (season 1)

The first season of The Unit was originally broadcast between March 7, 2006 and May 16, 2006, it introduces the members of The Unit and their families. As the season progresses various plots and story arcs are explored, such as Tiffy Gerhardt's affair with Colonel Tom Ryan and Molly Blane's mission to find the army widow who conned her out of her savings. In the United States, the first season of The Unit averaged 15.5 million viewers and was the fourteenth most watched show during the 2005–2006 television season.
