I was picking up my Dad at Malta, Montana off #7 and figured there would be a few trains before Amtrak. Unfortunately, there was only one, a westbound grain train.

SUMMARY:
- Why doesn’t Iceland have railroads? There are three reasons: the harsh climate, the small population, and their love of cars, which are the number one means of transportation in the country.
- If you look at a map of Bhutan, you'll see mostly mountains and hills. Building railways here would mean digging tunnels and constructing high bridges. That's one super-expensive project.
- Andorra and Bhutan have one thing in common – mountainous terrain. That's why there aren't, and never have been, railways here. In 2004, there was a plan to build an elevated cable metro system called 'Metro Aeri’, but it was never brought to life.
- Libya is one of the countries on the list that used to have a railway network, but is now train-free. The first 250 miles of railways were built here by the Kingdom of Italy back in the early 1900s. By 1965, the lines had been taken to pieces.
- If you ever visit Cyprus, make sure to stop by at the Railway Museum in the village of Evrychou. You’ll see models of the stations, wagons, photos and other things that prove railways did exist here, but are now just history.
- Now, public buses in Malta are pretty crowded and the roads are busy, so a railway probably wouldn't hurt. The only thing is that building trains above the ground would create too much noise pollution, and Malta is densely populated, with one town flowing into the other.
- Unlike many countries on the list where building a railway system would be simply too expensive, Kuwait doesn't seem to have the money problem.
- One of the smallest countries in South America, Suriname, has an interesting history when it comes to railways. At the beginning of the 20th century, a single-track meter gauge rail-line called Lawa Railway was supposed to be built to make the goldfields more reachable.
- The US has the longest total amount of rails – over 150,000 miles of tracks.
- China is number two in the world when it comes to railroad tracks. It has over 80,000 miles.
- Russia, the world's largest country, comes third in railroad length, and its tracks run for over 50,000 miles.

What better way to see the American landscape than from the observation car on an Amtrak train? On California Zephyr, Empire Builder, and other routes, the observation car rules.
Do all Amtrak trains have observation cars? No; in fact, only a few do. So which Amtrak trains have observation cars? In this video I go over what exactly the Amtrak sightseer lounge cars are, which routes they’re available on, and what the amenities and rules are.
The observation car goes by other names. You’ll also see it called a sightseer lounge, observation deck, or even a lounge cafe. Whatever you call it, of all fifty-plus Amtrak routes, only these eight have an observation car. They’re all long-distance overnight trains.
They are:
• California Zephyr (between San Francisco and Chicago)
• City of New Orleans (between Chicago and New Orleans)
• Coast Starlight (between Los Angeles and Seattle)
• Empire Builder (between Chicago and either Seattle or Portland)
• Southwest Chief (between Los Angeles and Chicago)
• Texas Eagle (between Los Angeles and Chicago)
• Sunset Limited (between Los Angeles and New Orleans)
• Capitol Limited (between Chicago and Washington DC)
There are other long-distance overnight trains, but they don’t have an observation car. None of the daytime-only routes have an observation car.

Because of the reduced demand for Amtrak during the Coronavirus pandemic , the Empire Builder has had its trains reduced by 3 cars. They did this for obvious reasons. Reducing Train lengths uses less fuel, costs less to operate, and reduces the amount of crew needed for the journey. SUMMARY:
- Why doesn’t Iceland have railroads? There are three reasons: the harsh climate, the small population, and their love of cars, which are the number one means of transportation in the country.
- If you look at a map of Bhutan, you'll see mostly mountains and hills. Building railways here would mean digging tunnels and constructing high bridges. That's one super-expensive project.
- Andorra and Bhutan have one thing in common – mountainous terrain. That's why there aren't, and never have been, railways here. In 2004, there was a plan to build an elevated cable metro system called 'Metro Aeri’, but it was never brought to life.
- Libya is one of the countries on the list that used to have a railway network, but is now train-free. The first 250 miles of railways were built here by the Kingdom of Italy back in the early 1900s. By 1965, the lines had been taken to pieces.
- If you ever visit Cyprus, make sure to stop by at the Railway Museum in the village of Evrychou. You’ll see models of the stations, wagons, photos and other things that prove railways did exist here, but are now just history.
- Now, public buses in Malta are pretty crowded and the roads are busy, so a railway probably wouldn't hurt. The only thing is that building trains above the ground would create too much noise pollution, and Malta is densely populated, with one town flowing into the other.
- Unlike many countries on the list where building a railway system would be simply too expensive, Kuwait doesn't seem to have the money problem.
- One of the smallest countries in South America, Suriname, has an interesting history when it comes to railways. At the beginning of the 20th century, a single-track meter gauge rail-line called Lawa Railway was supposed to be built to make the goldfields more reachable.
- The US has the longest total amount of rails – over 150,000 miles of tracks.
- China is number two in the world when it comes to railroad tracks. It has over 80,000 miles.
- Russia, the world's largest country, comes third in railroad length, and its tracks run for over 50,000 miles.

What better way to see the American landscape than from the observation car on an Amtrak train? On California Zephyr, Empire Builder, and other routes, the observation car rules.
Do all Amtrak trains have observation cars? No; in fact, only a few do. So which Amtrak trains have observation cars? In this video I go over what exactly the Amtrak sightseer lounge cars are, which routes they’re available on, and what the amenities and rules are.
The observation car goes by other names. You’ll also see it called a sightseer lounge, observation deck, or even a lounge cafe. Whatever you call it, of all fifty-plus Amtrak routes, only these eight have an observation car. They’re all long-distance overnight trains.
They are:
• California Zephyr (between San Francisco and Chicago)
• City of New Orleans (between Chicago and New Orleans)
• Coast Starlight (between Los Angeles and Seattle)
• Empire Builder (between Chicago and either Seattle or Portland)
• Southwest Chief (between Los Angeles and Chicago)
• Texas Eagle (between Los Angeles and Chicago)
• Sunset Limited (between Los Angeles and New Orleans)
• Capitol Limited (between Chicago and Washington DC)

Scuba Diving and snorkelling in Malta and Gozo. I had meant to visit Malta for decades. Once I finally went, on holiday with my daughters, I did a few bits of cold snorkelling then returned a few months later, bringing my diving club with me! What a fantastic place to dive! sites included Wied iz zurrieq, Blue Grotto, Blue chimney, blue hole, dwerja, caves, qawra point, bugibba, ta fra ben, ghajn tuffeiha, golden bay, salema, sliema, anchor bay, exiles, tug boat, blowhole, azure window, p29, patrol boat, cirkewwa, suzies pool, popeye village, sugarloaf, gnome garden. And so many species of fish! especially the barracuda and porgies, scorpionfish and moray eels not to mention the delightful cuttlefish. Marvellous place to visit and great people. Scuba Diving and snorkelling in Malta and Gozo. I had meant to visit Malta for decades. Once I finally went, on holiday with my daughters, I did a few bits of cold snorkelling then returned a few months later, bringing my diving club with me! What a fantastic place to dive! sites included Wied iz zurrieq, Blue Grotto, Blue chimney, blue hole, dwerja, caves, qawra point, bugibba, ta fra ben, ghajn tuffeiha, golden bay, salema, sliema, anchor bay, exiles, tug boat, blowhole, azure window, p29, patrol boat, cirkewwa, suzies pool, popeye village, sugarloaf, gnome garden. And so many species of fish! especially the barracuda and porgies, scorpionfish and moray eels not to mention the delightful cuttlefish. Marvellous place to visit and great people. Grand Harbour and Valetta were stunning! Welcome to my channel, I hope you enjoy watching all the kayak fishing around the UK, mostly in the North Sea - in the sea and river, fishing for cod, bass, tope, dogfish, smoothound, thornback ray, whiting, wrasse and anything else I can target There's scuba diving off the North Norfolk Coast and Suffolk, wreck diving, reef diving, river diving, even Cenote Diving, in the Red Sea off Egypt, the Mediterranean off Malta and Gozo and in Mexico, Brazil, Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Pembrokeshire in Wales, Swanage and Plymouth and of course the diving with sharks in South Africa. There's kayaking too, including surfing sailing and touring in the UK and abroad and a bit of snorkelling, Plenty of videos too of me fiddling with and driving my classic car, a 1973 Triumph Spitfire and other cars get a look in too. There's cooking, eating, travelling around various cities in Europe - Berlin in Germany, Naples and Rome in Italy, plus the Vatican; Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv and elsewhere in Bulgaria; Lefkosia / Nicosia and much of Cyprus, Krakow in Poland, there's Malta too. Istanbul in Turkey just outside Europe too, and Egypt around Hurghada. Further afield there's a bit of South Africa and Latin America with the Mayan Riviera of Mexico and Rio de Janeiro, Paraty and Isla Grande in Brazil. There's even a bit of Northern Ireland and parts of England mixed in with the nonsense of East Anglia in a camper van with my daughters! Wow! What a fun time we had in Malta. It was an incredibly beautiful morning to sail into port. We'll start off the video with some breathtaking footage of our approach to Malta. After a relaxing morning and pleasant breakfast in the Yacht Club, we head out for our adventure. We booked a super fun excursion through a company called Rolling Geeks in Malta. Basically, Rolling Geeks are electric cars (or golf carts), complete with pre-programmed GPS systems that not only take you on a tour of the Three Cities area of Malta, but explain what you’re looking at via an equipped loudspeaker. We affectionately named our speaker "Big Brother" because it always knew where we were. And speaking of that, the Rolling Geeks office always keeps an eye on you, and lets you know if you are getting off track. We had a blast on this excursion. There was so much to see, and cruising around in those little golf carts was a terrific way to do it. It wasn't all driving around for us though. We were able to stop and have a fantastic lunch, complete with postcard worthy views, and outstanding food. We also stopped at a lovely spot that was perfect for photographing Malta. From there we could see just about everything, including the MSC Meraviglia. We got some awesome photos! It was an unforgettable day in Malta, and Rolling Geeks was certainly the highlight. Once we were back on the beautiful Meraviglia we explored the ship, danced a little, caught a dome show, and headed back to our spacious cabin for the night.
There’s MUCH more to come on this journey as we continue our European cruise to, Barcelona (Spain), Marseille (France) and Genoa (Italy) so STAY TUNED! If you missed day 1 in Rome and day 2 in Palermo, be sure to check those videos out too.

SUMMARY:
- Why doesn’t Iceland have railroads? There are three reasons: the harsh climate, the small population, and their love of cars, which are the number one means of transportation in the country.
- If you look at a map of Bhutan, you'll see mostly mountains and hills. Building railways here would mean digging tunnels and constructing high bridges. That's one super-expensive project.
- Andorra and Bhutan have one thing in common – mountainous terrain. That's why there aren't, and never have been, railways here. In 2004, there was a plan to build an elevated cable metro system called 'Metro Aeri’, but it was never brought to life.
- Libya is one of the countries on the list that used to have a railway network, but is now train-free. The first 250 miles of railways were built here by the Kingdom of Italy back in the early 1900s. By 1965, the lines had been taken to pieces.
- If you ever visit Cyprus, make sure to stop by at the Railway Museum in the village of Evrychou. You’ll see models of the stations, wagons, photos and other things that prove railways did exist here, but are now just history.
- Now, public buses in Malta are pretty crowded and the roads are busy, so a railway probably wouldn't hurt. The only thing is that building trains above the ground would create too much noise pollution, and Malta is densely populated, with one town flowing into the other.
- Unlike many countries on the list where building a railway system would be simply too expensive, Kuwait doesn't seem to have the money problem.
- One of the smallest countries in South America, Suriname, has an interesting history when it comes to railways. At the beginning of the 20th century, a single-track meter gauge rail-line called Lawa Railway was supposed to be built to make the goldfields more reachable.
- The US has the longest total amount of rails – over 150,000 miles of tracks.
- China is number two in the world when it comes to railroad tracks. It has over 80,000 miles.
- Russia, the world's largest country, comes third in railroad length, and its tracks run for over 50,000 miles.

What better way to see the American landscape than from the observation car on an Amtrak train? On California Zephyr, Empire Builder, and other routes, the observation car rules.
Do all Amtrak trains have observation cars? No; in fact, only a few do. So which Amtrak trains have observation cars? In this video I go over what exactly the Amtrak sightseer lounge cars are, which routes they’re available on, and what the amenities and rules are.
The observation car goes by other names. You’ll also see it called a sightseer lounge, observation deck, or even a lounge cafe. Whatever you call it, of all fifty-plus Amtrak routes, only these eight have an observation car. They’re all long-distance overnight trains.
They are:
• California Zephyr (between San Francisco and Chicago)
• City of New Orleans (between Chicago and New Orleans)
• Coast Starlight (between Los Angeles and Seattle)
• Empire Builder (between Chicago and either Seattle or Portland)
• Southwest Chief (between Los Angeles and Chicago)
• Texas Eagle (between Los Angeles and Chicago)
• Sunset Limited (between Los Angeles and New Orleans)
• Capitol Limited (between Chicago and Washington DC)
There are other long-distance overnight trains, but they don’t have an observation car. None of the daytime-only routes have an observation car.

Because of the reduced demand for Amtrak during the Coronavirus pandemic , the Empire Builder has had its trains reduced by 3 cars. They did this for obvious reasons. Reducing Train lengths uses less fuel, costs less to operate, and reduces the amount of crew needed for the journey.

Malta (i/ˈmɒltə/; Maltese: [ˈmɐltɐ]), officially the Republic of Malta (Maltese: Repubblika ta' Malta), is a Southern European island country comprising an archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. Scuba Diving and snorkelling in Malta and Gozo. I had meant to visit Malta for decades. Once I finally went, on holiday with my daughters, I did a few bits of cold snorkelling then returned a few months later, bringing my diving club with me! What a fantastic place to dive! sites included Wied iz zurrieq, Blue Grotto, Blue chimney, blue hole, dwerja, caves, qawra point, bugibba, ta fra ben, ghajn tuffeiha, golden bay, salema, sliema, anchor bay, exiles, tug boat, blowhole, azure window, p29, patrol boat, cirkewwa, suzies pool, popeye village, sugarloaf, gnome garden. And so many species of fish! especially the barracuda and porgies, scorpionfish and moray eels not to mention the delightful cuttlefish. Marvellous place to visit and great people. Grand Harbour and Valetta were stunning! Welcome to my channel, I hope you enjoy watching all the kayak fishing around the UK, mostly in the North Sea - in the sea and river, fishing for cod, bass, tope, dogfish, smoothound, thornback ray, whiting, wrasse and anything else I can target There's scuba diving off the North Norfolk Coast and Suffolk, wreck diving, reef diving, river diving, even Cenote Diving, in the Red Sea off Egypt, the Mediterranean off Malta and Gozo and in Mexico, Brazil, Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Pembrokeshire in Wales, Swanage and Plymouth and of course the diving with sharks in South Africa. There's kayaking too, including surfing sailing and touring in the UK and abroad and a bit of snorkelling, Plenty of videos too of me fiddling with and driving my classic car, a 1973 Triumph Spitfire and other cars get a look in too. There's cooking, eating, travelling around various cities in Europe - Berlin in Germany, Naples and Rome in Italy, plus the Vatican; Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv and elsewhere in Bulgaria; Lefkosia / Nicosia and much of Cyprus, Krakow in Poland, there's Malta too. Istanbul in Turkey just outside Europe too, and Egypt around Hurghada. Further afield there's a bit of South Africa and Latin America with the Mayan Riviera of Mexico and Rio de Janeiro, Paraty and Isla Grande in Brazil. There's even a bit of Northern Ireland and parts of England mixed in with the nonsense of East Anglia in a camper van with my daughters! Wow! What a fun time we had in Malta. It was an incredibly beautiful morning to sail into port. We'll start off the video with some breathtaking footage of our approach to Malta. After a relaxing morning and pleasant breakfast in the Yacht Club, we head out for our adventure. We booked a super fun excursion through a company called Rolling Geeks in Malta. Basically, Rolling Geeks are electric cars (or golf carts), complete with pre-programmed GPS systems that not only take you on a tour of the Three Cities area of Malta, but explain what you’re looking at via an equipped loudspeaker. We affectionately named our speaker "Big Brother" because it always knew where we were. And speaking of that, the Rolling Geeks office always keeps an eye on you, and lets you know if you are getting off track. We had a blast on this excursion. There was so much to see, and cruising around in those little golf carts was a terrific way to do it. It wasn't all driving around for us though. We were able to stop and have a fantastic lunch, complete with postcard worthy views, and outstanding food. We also stopped at a lovely spot that was perfect for photographing Malta. From there we could see just about everything, including the MSC Meraviglia. We got some awesome photos! It was an unforgettable day in Malta, and Rolling Geeks was certainly the highlight. Once we were back on the beautiful Meraviglia we explored the ship, danced a little, caught a dome show, and headed back to our spacious cabin for the night.
