The competition was held throughout the UK in which more than 1700 bands initially entered. Various Nationwide elimination heats were held in which Sugar Ray Five won each heat outright and were eventual outright winners at the Grand Final which was held at the world famous Hammersmith Odeon (now Hammersmith Apollo) in London in front of a capacity crowd and covered by the BBC. Sugar Ray Five completely annihilated the opposition on the night and ending up gaining 147 of the absolute maximum of 150 points available from the judges. Only ever performing original material the self-penned 7" single 'Lazy Hours' with 'March' on the flip side was released into the British charts the following year which received airplay on principal radio and TV but despite being rapidly tipped by the industry for great heights as a true force to be reckoned with in the mid-eighties music scene the group disbanded less than a year later.

Mike Reed plays "Feelings" on the Hammond Organ
"Feelings" is a song by the Brazilian singer Morris Albert, who also wrote the lyrics. Albert released "Feelings" in 1974 as a single and later included it as the title track of his 1975 debut album. The song's lyrics, concern the singer's inability to "forget my feelings of love". Albert's original recording of the song was very successful, performing well internationally. I recorded this tune on my third album, "My Way" in 1977, at Studio 70 in Tampa, Florida. A great "moody" tune, indeed, and it gives me the opportunity to use modal chords and harmonies from medieval times. Haunting at times, and downright sad at others, a beautiful song it is. Today, 10/21/2021, when "Life is Good" here in the western burbs, and "Hammondized" just because it needs to be. 🌴🎹😎🌴

Mike Reed plays "Frenesi" on his Hammond Organ
The song "Frenesi" was originally written in 1940 as a piece for the Marimba by Alberto Dominguez, and it was adapted as a jazz standard by Leonard Whitcup and many others. Marimba is a great percussion instrument. I played one in college, and my youngest son did major work toward his University Music degree playing marimba. This great Latin tune was made famous as a fox trot by Artie Shaw and his Orchestra. Jackie Davis did this one with trombones and organ. I used to roller skate to it as a Tango. The impromptu setting here is in the Latin American rhythmic style. Hammond Organ arrangements, while you wait, has always been my thing. "Life is Good", so let's do this, on a sunny Wednesday, 10/20/2021. Feeling so good, doing what we love, and loving what we do. 🎹😎🌴🌴

Mike Reed plays "Tangerine" on his Hammond Organ
"Tangerine" was written by Victor Schertzinger, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer, and was recorded by Jimmy Dorsey's Orchestra in 1942, with vocals by Helen O'Connell and Bob Eberly. Great tune and great musicians from the Big Band years.....also a great skating Tango at the Rinks. Today we have a Latin Beat going, .....then, well, I kinda shift gears a bit..... and off on a sort of jazzy romp, "Hammondized" with the muse singing, all the way, and Leslies spinning for 2 cats dancing. Happy Monday 10/18/2021, here where it is going to be only 60 degrees F. Do remember, "Life is Good", when you find your own way to your dreams. Make mine Organ music ..... and my lovely little wife just retired from Nursing (for 44 years) on Friday. Yeah... 🎹😎🍁🌴

YES WE KNOW THE CAMERA IS JITTERY! (CAMERAMAN NAVIGATING PEOPLE WALKING AROUND AND OBSTACLES)
Thanks for all the kind words everyone. Just to clarify. The recording was done with a Zoom Q3HD, no other microphone was used. Joe P was playing the organ through the Neo instruments ventilator and the Leslie both at the same time, the Neo instruments ventilator was running stereo out into our house pa system with a touch of reverb to taste as per Mr.Pantano's request.
The Leslie 122 was fully restored here at Retro Linear, the amp was 100% rebuilt, new tubes, motor's fully rebuilt, new fast motor kits, everything inside the Leslie was rebuilt and brought back to new spec. The organ was subject to the same level of work as well, 100% rebuilt, buss bars cleaned, all the notes checked, tone wheel generator tuned, a plethora of Trek II mods as well. In our opinion with this work being done to the organ its what a textbook Hammond organ should sound like in a proper working state, no missing tones or misfires, ciphers etc, just that sweet analog sound we all love dearly.
and of Course a big thanks to Joe P for doing his PantanoTone thing for us ;)
This organ is Available for sale - please contact us for additional details! 215-699-8000
Thanks!

Chet Baker and the Four Freshmen had great hits with this tune, so I listen to it often.
