James Holden (producer)

James Alexander Goodale Holden (born 7 June 1979) is a British electronic music artist and DJ.

Career

Holden started his career in 1999, at age 19, when he released the trance single, "Horizons", which he created with the freeware software Buzz. After this he released numerous singles and remixes on different labels such as Lost Language, Perfecto Recordings, and Positiva Recordings. He was also one-third of Mainline, which was responsible for the double single of "Narcotic" and "Innerspace". He has also worked with singer Julie Thompson as Holden & Thompson. He grew up in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, before studying Mathematics at Oxford University.

Holden kicked off his record label Border Community with his own future single "A Break in the Clouds". From then on, he has released remixes of artists from Madonna and Britney Spears, through Depeche Mode and New Order, to Nathan Fake and Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid. In April 2006, his mix album James Holden at the Controls was Mixmag 's 'Album of the Month'.

Adventures in Paradise (TV series)

Adventures in Paradise is an American television series created by James Michener which ran on ABC from 1959 until 1962, starring Gardner McKay as Adam Troy, the captain of the schooner Tiki III, which sailed the South Pacific looking for passengers and adventure. USA Network aired reruns of this series between 1984 and 1988. The plots deal with the romantic and detective adventures of Korean War veteran Troy. The supporting cast, varying from season to season, features George Tobias, Guy Stockwell, and Linda Lawson.

James Holden (locomotive engineer)

James Holden (26 July 1837 – 29 May 1925) was an English locomotive engineer.

He is remembered mainly for the "Claud Hamilton" 4-4-0, his pioneering work with oil fuel, and his unique "Decapod".

Biography

James Holden was born in Whitstable, Kent on 26 July 1837. He was apprenticed to his uncle, Edward Fletcher and, in 1865, joined the Great Western Railway, where he eventually became chief assistant to William Dean. In 1885 he was appointed Locomotive Superintendent of the Great Eastern Railway, which placed him in control of Stratford works. He held office from 1885 to 1907 and was succeeded by his son Stephen (1908–1912), who enlarged the "Claud Hamilton" type into the capable Class S69 4-6-0 design.

James Holden was a Quaker. His style of management was rather paternalistic, and trade unionism was not encouraged. Holden had little regard for trade unions and believed employers should voluntarily look after their men. He was responsible for erecting the first hostel (1890) for enginemen arriving in London with late trains from the provinces.
