He began his professional career in 1981 writing songs with Al McKay and David Bryant. McKay had recently left Earth, Wind & Fire. Together they wrote "Send A Little Love" for The Spinners, "Sayonara" for A Taste of Honey and "Lovers" and "You Owe It All To Love" for Finis Henderson. With Erich Bulling, Haynes also wrote songs for Japanese recording artists Naoko Kawai and Hiromi Iwasaki. In 1982, he began writing with Maurice White, Wanda Vaughn, Wayne Vaughn, Skip Scarborough, Philip Bailey and Robert Brookins. These collaborations led to "The Speed Of Love" on Haynes' first gold album, Earth, Wind & Fire, Powerlight as well as "Trapped" and "The Good Guy's Supposed To Get The Girls" on Philip Bailey’s solo project Continuation and "I Will No Wise Cast You Out" on The Wonders of His Love. His association with Maurice White also led to a collaboration with David Foster on "My Sweet Delight" by Jennifer Holiday from her album Feel My Soul.
nows the time for all good men
to get together with one another
we've gotta iron out problems
and try to livge as brothers
try and find peace of mind
without steepin on each other
and do respect the women of the world
remeber you all have mothers
we gotta make this land a better land
in the world in which we live
we gotta make each man be a better man
with the kindness that we give
i know we can make it
i know darn well that we can work it out
yes we can
And we've gotta take good care of the children
the children of the world
cause there the strongest hope for the future
the little bitty boys and girls
we gotta make this land a better land
in the world in which we live
we gotta make each man be a better man
with the kindness that we give
i know we can make it
i know darn well that we can work it out
