The Treaty of Belgrade
The Treaty of Belgrade (Russian: Белградский мир, Turkish: Belgrad antlaşması, Serbian: Beogradski mir) was the peace treaty signed on September 18, 1739 in Belgrade, Habsburg Kingdom of Serbia (today Republic of Serbia), by the Ottoman Empire on one side and the Habsburg Monarchy on the other.
This treaty ended the hostilities of the two-year Austro-Russian–Turkish War (1735–39), in which the Habsburgs joined Imperial Russia in its fight against the Ottomans. With the Treaty of Belgrade, the Habsburgs ceded the Kingdom of Serbia with Belgrade, the southern part of the Banat of Temeswar and northern Bosnia to the Ottomans, and Oltenia, gained by the Treaty of Passarowitz in 1718, to Wallachia (an Ottoman subject), and set the demarcation line to the rivers Sava and Danube. How Did The Serbian Revolt Against The Ottoman Empire Start?
The Serbian Revolution refers to the national uprising active between 1804 and 1835, during which this territory evolved from an Ottoman province into a constitutional monarchy and a modern Serbia. The first part of the period, from 1804 to 1815, was marked by a violent struggle for independence from the Ottoman Empire with two armed uprisings taking place, ending with a ceasefire. The later period (1815–1835) witnessed a peaceful consolidation of political power of the increasingly autonomous Serbia, culminating in the recognition of the right to hereditary rule by Serbian princes in 1830 and 1833 and the territorial expansion of the young monarchy. The adoption of the first written Constitution in 1835 abolished feudalism and serfdom, and made the country suzerain. The term Serbian revol...

Changing the Map of Europe Back to 1815
What did Europe look like in 1815? In this video we’ll redraw the map of Europe back to the year when Napoleon finally lost his grip on Europe, and when a new future was laid out at the Congress of Vienna.
NOTES
• When pronouncing originally non-English names, I've adhered to the American English pronunciation given by the Merriam-Webster dictionary.
• The borders of some smaller German and Italian states have been simplified for hopefully obvious reasons.
• Hesse-Homburg did not join the German Confederation until 1817, but is nevertheless included here.
ERRATA
• Serbia was granted autonomy within the Ottoman Empire already in late 1815. The territory corresponded to the Smederevo Sanjak/Belgrade Pashalik region.
• The Kiurin khanate in the north Caucasus should be called 'Kurin'.
• The...

The Habsburg withdrawal forced Russia to accept peace at the Russo-Turkish War, 1735-1739 with the Treaty of Niš, whereby it was allowed to build a port at Azov, gaining a foothold on the Black Sea.
The Treaty of Belgrade effectively ended the Kingdom of Serbia which had existed since 1718. This territory would await the next Habsburg-Ottoman war to be temporarily again included into the Habsburg Monarchy in 1788 with the help of Koča Anđelković.

The term Serbian revolution was coined by a German academic historiographer, Leopold von Ranke, in his book Die Serbische Revolution, published in 1829. These events marked the foundation of modern Serbia.
The period is further divided as follows: First Serbian Uprising (1804–13), led by Karađorđe Petrović Hadži Prodan's revolt (1814) Second Serbian Uprising (1815) under Miloš Obrenović Official recognition of the Serbian state (1815–1833)
The Proclamation (1809) by Karađorđe in the capital Belgrade probably represented the apex of the first phase. It called for national unity, drawing on Serbian history to demand the freedom of religion and formal, written rule of law, both of which the Ottoman Empire had failed to provide. It also called on Serbs to stop paying taxes to the Porte, deemed unfair as based on religious affiliation. Apart from dispensing with poll tax on non-Muslims (jizya), the revolutionaries also abolished all feudal obligations in 1806, only 15 years after the French revolution, peasant and serf emancipation thus representing a major social break with the past. The rule of Miloš Obrenović consolidated the achievements of the Uprisings, leading to the proclamation of the first constitution in the Balkans and the establishment of the oldest Balkan institution of higher learning still in existence, the Great Academy of Belgrade (1808). In 1830 and again in 1833, Serbia was recognized as an autonomous principality, with hereditary princes paying annual tribute to the Porte. Finally, de facto independence came in 1868, with the withdrawal of Ottoman garrisons from the principality; de jure independence was formally recognized at the Congress of Berlin in 1878.
The Habsburgs occupied the Sanjak of Smederevo (modern central Serbia), ruling it as a crownland, the Kingdom of Serbia (1718–39), until they lost south of Danube (1739). There were large migrational waves from Ottoman areas into Habsburg territory. In 1788, Koča Anđelković led a rebellion against the Ottomans with the aid of Austria and placed central Serbia under the rule of the Habsburgs (see Koča's frontier). The Treaty of Sistova (1791) ended Austrian rule and promised Ottoman reforms. However, by 1799, Janissary corps had returned to the Sanjak and removed Serbian autonomy, drastically increased taxes, and enforced martial law. In 1801, Hadži Mustafa Pasha, the vizier of the Sanjak of Smederevo, was murdered by renegade janissaries (dahia), who took power in the Sanjak and defied the Sultan. The dahia feared that the Sultan would make use of the Serbs to oust them, so they decided to capture and execute Serb dukes and other notables at the main square of Valjevo, in an event known as the slaughter of the Dukes (1804). The executions outraged the Serbian people, and within days, Serb chiefs gathered in Šumadija and proclaimed the uprising, electing Karađorđe Petrović as their leader.
During almost 10 years of the First Serbian Uprising (1804–13), Serbia perceived itself as an independent state for the first time after 300 years of Ottoman and short-lasting Austrian occupations. Encouraged by the Russian Empire, the demands for self-government within Ottoman Empire in 1804 evolved into a war for independence by 1807. Combining patriarchal peasant democracy with modern national goals the Serbian revolution was attracting thousands of volunteers among the Serbs from across the Balkans and Central Europe. The Serbian
Revolution ultimately became a symbol of the nation-building process in the Balkans, provoking peasant unrests among the Christians in both Greece and Bulgaria. Following the successful siege with 25,000 men, on 8 January 1807 the charismatic leader of the revolt Karađorđe Petrović proclaimed Belgrade the capital of Serbia.

The Treaty of Passarowitz
The Treaty of Passarowitz or Treaty of Požarevac was the peace treaty signed in Požarevac (Serbian Cyrillic: Пожаревац, German: Passarowitz, Turkish: Pasarofça,...
The Treaty of Passarowitz or Treaty of Požarevac was the peace treaty signed in Požarevac (Serbian Cyrillic: Пожаревац, German: Passarowitz, Turkish: Pasarofça, Hungarian: Pozsarevác), a town in the Ottoman Empire (nowadays in Serbia), on 21 July 1718 between the Ottoman Empire on one side and the Habsburg Monarchy of Austria and the Republic of Venice on the other.
During the years 1714–18, the Ottomans had been successful against Venice in Greece and Crete, in the Ottoman–Venetian War. But, in the Austro-Turkish War of 1716–1718, they had been defeated at Petrovaradin (1716) by the Austrian troops of Prince Eugene of Savoy.
The treaty reflected the military situation. The Ottoman Empire lost the Banat and southeastern Syrmia, central part of present-day Serbia (from Belgrade to south of Kruševac), a tiny strip of northern Bosnia and Lesser Wallachia (Oltenia) to Austria. Venice renounced the Peloponnese peninsula (known as the Morea at the time), gained by the Treaty of Karlowitz, as well as its last remaining outposts in Crete, retaining only the Ionian Islands (with Ottoman-occupied Kythera added to them) and the cities of Preveza and Arta on the Epirote mainland. In Dalmatia, it made some small advances, taking the areas of Sinj, Imotski and Vrgorac in the hinterland.
The result of the treaty was the restoration of Habsburg administration over much of the territory of present-day Serbia, which they had temporarily occupied during the Great Turkish War between 1688 and 1699, and the effective establishment of the Kingdom of Serbia as a crown land. Following Passarowitz, a Habsburg crown land known as the Banat of Temeswar was also established.
After another Austro-Turkish war, in the 1739 Treaty of Belgrade the Ottoman Empire regained northern Bosnia, Habsburg Serbia (including Belgrade), southern parts of the Banat of Temeswar and Lesser Wallachia.

Serbia (Serbian: Србија / Srbija [sř̩bija]), officially the Republic of Serbia (Serbian: Република Србија / Republika Srbija [repǔblika sř̩bija]), is a country situated at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe in the southern Pannonian Plain and the central Balkans. The sovereign state borders Hungary to the north, Romania to the northeast, Bulgaria to the southeast, Macedonia to the south, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro to the southwest. The country claims a border with
Albania through the disputed territory of Kosovo. Serbia numbers around 7 million residents. Its capital, Belgrade, ranks among the oldest and largest cities in southeastern Europe.Inhabited since the Paleolithic Age, the Slavic migrations to the Balkans in the 6th century established several sovereign states in the early Middle Ages which at times nominally recognized Byzantine, Frankish and Hungarian overrule. The Serbian Kingdom obtained recognition by the Vatican and Constantinople in 1217, reaching its peak in 1346 as a relatively short-lived Serbian Empire. By the mid-16th century, the entire modern-day Serbia was annexed by the Ottomans, at times interrupted by the Habsburg Empire, which started expanding towards Central Serbia from the end of the 17th century, while maintaining a foothold in modern-day Vojvodina. In the early 19th century, the Serbian Revolution established the nation-state as the region's first constitutional monarchy, which subsequently expanded its territory. Following disastrous casualties in World War I, and the subsequent unification of the former Habsburg crownland of Vojvodina (and other territories) with Serbia, the country co-founded Yugoslavia with other South Slavic peoples, which would exist in various political formations until the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s. During the breakup of Yugoslavia, Serbia formed a union with Montenegro, which was peacefully dissolved in 2006. In 2008, the parliament of the province of Kosovo unilaterally declared independence, with mixed responses from the international community.
Serbia is a member of the UN, CoE, OSCE, PfP, BSEC, CEFTA and it is acceding to the WTO.
• The two (artificial) lakes in present-day Ukraine did not exist in 1815.

The Chetniks of WW2 Yugoslavia - Resistance or Axis Collaborators?
Were the Chetniks Axis collaborators? Or did they resist the Axis during WW2? Time to explore this debate by exploring the situation in Yugoslavia during the war, and examining the Yugoslavian resistance, with a focus on Mihailović's Chetniks. We can compare them to other Chetnik movements as well as to Tito's Communist 'Partisans' and see if we can figure out what the historical truth really is.

BOSNIA: MT IGMAN: SERBS DISCOVERED IN 'OFF LIMITS' TERRITORY
(4 Jan 1996) Eng/French/Nat
Soldiers from the French Foreign Legion have discovered Bosnian Serb troops in an area of Bosnia where they shouldn't have been.
The Bosnian Serbs were meant to have withdrawn from the area just south of Mount Igman under the rules of the Dayton peace accord.
The troops only left after talks with the Legionnaires, the same French soldiers who later had to leave Serb territory when they encountered another patrol backed up by tanks.
Setting off on a scouting mission, just south of Mount Igman, French paratroopers were out to gather information about Bosnian Serb troops and equipment.
But to their surprise, the soldiers from the intelligence unit of the Foreign Legion met them face to face instead.
The Bosnian Serbs were meant to have left this ...

Fall Of Constantinople 1453 - Ottoman Wars DOCUMENTARY
The Eastern Roman Empire was under constant Ottoman pressure ever since the new conquerors appeared in the Anatolia. Although the Ottomans tried to take Constantinople on a number of occasions, they had to lift the siege of the city due to the Crusades of Varna and Nicopolis, the Timurid Invasion and the battle of Ankara, and the Interregnum period that happened after their Sultan Bayezid was taken hostage by Timur. However, after the victories at the battles of Varna (1444) and 2nd Kosovo (1448) against the crusaders of Wladyslaw III and John Hunyadi, the road to Constantinople was open and the new sultan Mehmed II set his sight on the city of the Roman emperors...

100 Most Powerful Militaries of All Time
This video shows the countries that have won the most battles in history, as documented by Wikipedia.
List of battles won by country: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kegu4fTTjVsMTBIUivD6QC6PTX8qRvS4LiyAqrx6lQc/edit?usp=sharing
Sequence and location of battles: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HK5OsDWYJmQ
Rules
• Battles are included only if they have a Wikipedia article
• Each country can only have 1 predecessor state at the same time (eg. the UK's predecessor is England, but not Scotland)
Methodology:
I used Wikipedia as a directory of battles:
1. I created a query with Wikidata Query to get the list of all articles tagged as "battle" by Wikipedia. This gives me about 12,000 battles
2. I downloaded the data that is included in the top right hand table of every of those Wikipedia...

Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has announced his army will launch a counter-offensive which he claimed would finally defeat the Muslim side.
Karadzic also warned the international community to stop supporting the Muslims, or the war would continue indefinitely.
The Bosnian Serb leader was speaking while visiting troops on the frontline with his military commander, General Ratko Mladic.
Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic Monday visited his army on the Vlasic frontline in central Bosnia along with General Ratko Mladic.
General Mormirtalic Talic, commander of the 1st Krajina Corps, saluted him on his arrival and gave him a report on the Vlasic region.
Karadzic had just come from a session of the self-proclaimed Bosnian Serb parliament, which was held behind closed doors and ended after 26 hours at dawn on Monday.
In a show of unity, Karadzic inspected the troops with the Bosnian Serb army commander.
Photographs were on display in a tribute to soldiers killed in the war.
The Bosnian Serb leadership has been in disarray after recent Bosnian government military successes.
But Karadzic said the military campaign was going well and announced the army would launch a counter-offensive to finally defeat the Muslim enemies.
SOUNDBITE:
"Well more or less okay. The Muslims had some initial successes, very small successes. We had too many casualties, but we are handling the situation and it is going to be very, very good"
SUPER CAPTION: Radovan Karadzic - Bosnian Serb leader
The Bosnian Serb army commander said his troops would make a comeback.
SOUNDBITE: (In Serbo-Croat)
"The Muslims have violated the agreement on the cessation of hostilities, they have some minor successes in this area, but we will take back the lost territories."
SUPER CAPTION: General Ratko Mladic - Bosnian Serb military commander
Karadzic warned the international community to stop continuing to support the Muslim side.
SOUNDBITE:
"Yes we are handling the.. situation also. What I would like to say is if Muslims want a military outcome then it's going to be military outcome, and there will not be any concession concerning territory. If they wanted political outcome then we have been ready to negotiate, but if they want to fight to the end then it's going to be fight to the end of the Muslim army. We warn the international community to stop supporting Muslim side because this is the way to prolong this war"
SUPER CAPTION: Radovan Karadzic - Bosnian Serb leader
As the fighting continues around Mount Vlasic, France Tuesday demanded an urgent meeting of the U-N Security Council and other steps to improve security for peacekeepers in the former Yugoslavia.
The move follows the killing of two more French peacekeepers in Sarajevo last week.

ABOUT TIK 📝
History isn’t as boring as some people think, and my goal is to get people talking about it. I also want to dispel the myths and distortions that ruin our perception of the past by asking a simple question - “But is this really the case?”. I have a 2:1 Degree in History and a passion for early 20th Century conflicts (mainly WW2). I’m therefore approaching this like I would an academic essay. Lots of sources, quotes, references and so on. Only the truth will do.
This video is discussing events or concepts that are academic, educational and historical in nature. This video is for informational purposes and was created so we may better understand the past and learn from the mistakes others have made.

The Bosnian Serbs were meant to have left this particular area on Mount Igman under the rules of the Dayton peace accord.
But it was only after the French talked with the local commander that the Bosnian Serbs agreed to leave.
One of the Legionnaires felt that only their presence kept the warring factions apart.
SOUNDBITE: (French)
"But lets say that for them (Bosnian Serbs) IFOR has to make a fortification (separation) between the Bosnians and them. But if we leave a secured place they (Bosnian Serbs) come right back."
SUPER CAPTION: Lieutenant Desmeulles, 2nd REP, French Foreign Legion
More surprises were in store for the French soldiers just south of Konjic.
After driving by a Bosnian armoured vehicle hidden in bushes, the Legionnaires encountered more soldiers on patrol in Bosnian Serb territory.
Faced with two Russian-made tanks, the French were forced to comply with a Bosnian Serb request to leave.
One paratrooper did not believe that the peace they were enforcing would last once the NATO forces finally left.
SOUNDBITE:
"I think the war will start again. Once the small groups of the different ethnics mix up everywhere it won't last very long. And if it starts again we will come back."
SUPER CAPTION: Sergeant Lawson, 2nd REP, French Foreign Legion
Mission accomplished, the special section of the Foreign Legion headed back to their Mount Igman camp.

This video contains complete coverage, footages and analysis of Zapad 2021 Russian Military Exercise. Russian Strategic Military Exercise Zapad 2021 was held from 10 to 16 September 2021. Zapad is a Russian word which means “west”. It is a bilateral large-scale Russo-Belorussian strategic-level exercise, primarily in Belarus and Russia’s Western Military District. Russian military conducts Zapad exercise after every four years and it rotates between Eastern, Central, Southern, and Western Military Districts of Russia. Northern Fleet which has been designated as fifth military district on 1st January 2021 is not yet integrated into the strategic exercise. Zapad 2021 is considered to be the largest military exercise in Europe in last 40 years and was conducted between Russia and Belarus. With the opening ceremony held on 9 September 2021, the joint strategic exercise Zapad 2021 involved about 200 thousand military personnel, more than 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including more than 290 tanks, more than 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships. The part of the exercise conducted on the territory of the Republic of Belarus involved 12,800 people including up to 2,500 Russian servicemen, more than 30 aircraft and helicopters, up to 350 units of military equipment, about 140 tanks, up to 110 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars. By contrast, NATO's largest exercise The Trident Juncture 2018 involved only 40,000 troops.
Technically this is a Strategic Command-Staff Exercise but it has been re-designated as Joint Strategic Exercise most likely because it involved Belarus and a number of other countries. International participants from members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and Shanghai Cooperation Organization were also invited for the exercise. Armenia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Serbia, and Sri Lanka sent their troops for the Zapad exercise whereas China, Vietnam, Burma, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan sent their observers. Practical actions of the troops started simultaneously at nine ranges of the Russian Federation namely Kirilovsky, Strugi Krasnye, Mulino, Pogonovo, Khmelevka, Pravdinsky, Dobrovolsky, Dorogobuzh and Volsky. The events were also carried out in the Baltic Sea as well as at five ranges in the Republic of Belarus namelyl Obuz- Lesnovsky, Brest, Chepelevo, Domanovsky and Ruzhansky.
As per Russia, the maximum number of personnel involved in the exercise of military units under a single operational command subject to the 2011 Vienna Document on Confidence-Building and Security Measures in the territory of the Russian Federation were not exceeded 6,400 people. Belarus has claimed that its component took place on Belarusian soil was total of 12,800 personnel only. However, the real numbers of Russian forces involved in Belarus appeared quite larger. Actual size of the exercise seems to vary depending on who is talking about it.
NATO is disagreed to the Russian figures and showed its concerns over the scale of exercise. Earlier, Russia had refused to invite NATO observers despite obligated under an international agreement which says that observations are mandatory when exercises exceed 13,000 troops.

PROTECT THE LAND
The big gun tells you what your life is worth
What do we deserve before we end the earth
If they will try to push you far away
Would you stay
And take a stand
Would you stay with gun in hand
They protect the land
They protect the land
Those who protect the land
Those who protect the land
Those who protect
The enemy of man is his own decay
If they’re evil now then evil they will stay
They will try to push you far away
Would you stay and take a stand
Would you stay with gun in hand
They protect the land
They protect the land
They protect the land
Our history and victory and legacy we send
From scavengers and invaders those who protect the land
Those who protect the land
Those who protect
Those who protect the land
Those who protect
Some were forced to foreign lands
Some would lay dead on the sand
Would you stay and take command
Would you stay with gun in hand (with gun in hand)
They protect the land
They protect the land
They protect the land
Our history and victory and legacy we send
from scavengers and invaders those who protect the land
Our history and victory and legacy we send

PROTECT THE LAND
The big gun tells you what your life is worth
What do we deserve before we end the earth
If they will try to push you far away
Would you stay
And take a stand
Would you stay with gun in hand
They protect the land
They protect the land
Those who protect the land
Those who protect the land
Those who protect
The enemy of man is his own decay
If they’re evil now then evil they will stay
They will try to push you far away
Would you stay and take a stand
Would you stay with gun in hand
They protect the land
They protect the land
They protect the land
Our history and victory and legacy we send
From scavengers and invaders those who protect the land
Those who protect the land
Those who protect
Those who protect the land
Those who protect
Some were forced to foreign lands
Some would lay dead on the sand
Would you stay and take command
Would you stay with gun in hand (with gun in hand)
They protect the land
They protect the land
They protect the land
Our history and victory and legacy we send
from scavengers and invaders those who protect the land
Our history and victory and legacy we send
from scavengers and invaders those who protect
Those who protect the land
Those who protect the land
Those who protect
Those who protect the land
Those who protect

100 Most Powerful Militaries of All Time
This video shows the countries that have won the most battles in history, as documented by Wikipedia.

List of battles won by country: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kegu4fTTjVsMTBIUivD6QC6PTX8qRvS4LiyAqrx6lQc/edit?usp=sharing
Sequence and location of battles: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HK5OsDWYJmQ
Rules
• Battles are included only if they have a Wikipedia article
• Each country can only have 1 predecessor state at the same time (eg. the UK's predecessor is England, but not Scotland)
Methodology:
I used Wikipedia as a directory of battles:
1. I created a query with Wikidata Query to get the list of all articles tagged as "battle" by Wikipedia. This gives me about 12,000 battles
2. I downloaded the data that is included in the top right hand table of every of those Wikipedia article. I did it for the following versions of Wikipedia: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Greek, Turkish, Serbo-Croatian, Japanese, Danish, Norwegian, Slovakian, Dutch, Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Hindi, Hebrew, Basque, Bulgarian, Romanian, Catalan, Finnish, Swedish, Vietnamese, Persian, Indonesian, Korean
3. I cleaned up the data on Excel to remove double entries :
4. I created an index of countries with their predecessor states:
Limitations :
- Missing data. You probably noticed that Europe concentrates the majority of battles. Possible explanations include the fact that Wikipedia is used more in Europe, the ban of Wikipedia in China or Turkey, or the lack of documentation of military records in some countries. But still, Wikipedia remains one of the most comprehensive sources available.
