The Bald Mountain OHV complex just outside of Shaver Lake, California has several trails. A Facebook user requested the easiest way to the top, and I believe I've found it. Utilizing the Bow Tie and Tower trails, just about any four wheel drive, and some two wheel drive, vehicles can make it to the top. The Bow Tie trail is very easy, Tower trail offers a slightly tougher terrain, however most obstacles can be bypassed. For these trails I would recommend four-wheel drive, including 4-Low, moderate clearance, and all-terrain tires. Make sure to stay tuned for our trip off of Bald Mountain via the other trails in the system. Also, The GPS file for this route is below. My ride for this overlanding trip was my 1997 Toyota 80 Series Land Cruiser (FZJ80), Eli. Eli has stock electronic lockers and several aftermarket upgrades and add-ons including an AOE front bumper, a 4x4 Labs rear bumper, custom rock sliders made by AAA Muffler and Fabrication in Hanford, CA, a heavily modified INTI roof rack, and a Roam Adventure Co. rooftop tent.
