10cc are an English art rock band founded in Stockport who achieved their greatest commercial success in the 1970s. The band initially consisted of four musicians—Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, and Lol Creme—who had written and recorded together for some three years, before assuming the name "10cc" in 1972.
10cc featured two songwriting teams, one "commercial" and one "artistic". Stewart and Gouldman were predominantly pop-songwriters, who created most of the band's accessible songs. By way of contrast, Godley and Creme were the predominantly experimental half of 10cc, featuring an Art School sensibility and cinematic inspired writing.
Every member of 10cc was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer and producer, and the writing teams frequently switched partners, so that Godley/Gouldman or Creme/Stewart compositions were not uncommon. After Godley and Creme left the band in 1976, Gouldman and Stewart were the main creative forces behind 10cc. Stewart left the band in 1996, and Gouldman continues to lead a touring version of 10cc.
10cc is the debut album by British rock band 10cc. It was recorded at Strawberry Studios in Stockport, which was part-owned by guitarist and engineer Eric Stewart, and released on Jonathan King's UK Records [No: UKAL 1005] label. The album reached No.36 in the UK.
Three of its five singles reached the Top 10 in the UK charts, including "Rubber Bullets", which hit No.1. The closing track, "Fresh Air for My Mama", was a reworking of "You Didn't Like It Because You Didn't Think of It", the B-side of 1970s "Neanderthal Man", an international hit by the band under its former name of Hotlegs.
Some versions of the album have an altered running order.
Time to wave the day goodbye
But I don't wanna hear no lullaby
Sandman takes his cue
And when the night is through
I'll be lying here with you
Close your eyes turn out the light
Say a prayer to see us through the night
Hope your dreams come true
When dawn turns into blue
I'll be lying here with you
Too much of something
Tends to spoil you so they say
But I can't get enough of you
I'll tell you something
I never listen to what they say
I only know what I must do
All our cares will drift away
Leave them all until another day
I don't really mind
As long as I can find
That I'm lying here with you
Too much of something
Tends to spoil you so they say
But I can't get enough of you
I'll tell you something
I never listen to what they say
I only know what I must do
All our cares will drift away
Leave them all until another day
I don't really mind
As long as I can find
That I'm lying here with you
