On My Own is the fourth and final studio album released on August 26, 2003 by Hip-hop artist, Magic on Koch Records. The Album featured production from Magic, Mark in da Dark and Sinista as well as guest appearances by Curren$y
On My Own has proved to be Magic's least successful of his four albums, only making it to #54 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
Prior to the release of this album, Magic had just left No Limit Records to join Koch and On My Own was his second 2003 album. Ironically, less than four months later, No Limit would file for bankruptcy and join Koch. However, this album was released just 5 months after his previous album White Eyes (album). This is Magic's final album prior to his death on March 1, 2013.
"On My Own" was the Norwegian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001, performed in English by Haldor Lægreid. Unusually, there was another entry that year with a similar title - Michelle singing "Out On My Own" for the Netherlands.
The song is a ballad, with Lægreid singing about the fact that he is "on my own again" and ready to take charge of his life, where previously he had not.
The song was performed fourth on the night, following Bosnia and Herzegovina's Nino Pršeš with "Hano" and preceding Israel's Tal Sondak with "En Davar". At the close of voting, it had received 3 points, placing 22nd (equal last) in a field of 23.
With the rapidly expanding size of the Contest, the decision was taken to restrict entry to the 2002 contest to those countries recording the best 13 results of 2001, a group which did not include Norway. As a "passive participant" (that is, a country broadcasting but not entering the Contest), Norway was re-admitted to the next event. Thus, the song was succeeded as Norwegian representative at the 2003 contest by Jostein Hasselgård with "I'm Not Afraid To Move On".
On My Own is a 1991 film starring Judy Davis and Matthew Ferguson. Ferguson plays Simon Henderson, a student at an Ontario boarding school, whose father lives in Hong Kong, and whose mother (played by Davis) is from England. The plot revolves around Simon coming to terms with the revelation that his mother suffers from schizophrenia.
Some of the film’s location shooting was done in London, England (not London, Ontario), St. Catharines, Ontario, Toronto, Ontario and Stratford, Ontario. The film is primarily set at an "Ontario boarding school" and the scenes showing the school were filmed at two real-life boarding schools in Ontario, Ridley College (with its distinctive bell tower and entrance gates, called the Marriott Gates) and Upper Canada College (including the interior of the Upper School and the interior of Wedd’s boarding house).
Post-production for the film was done in Australia by the South Australian Film Corporation.
My Own is a scripted series aired on MTV. The show features a person who pretends to be obsessed with a celebrity, and a group of six contestants resembling that celebrity who compete to win a date with the obsessed person. The contestant who is believed to most closely match the celebrity wins after several rounds of competition, including a live singing performance.
The show starts with the introduction of the person who is seeking his/her singer. Then, two friends of him/her introduce themselves and tell somethings about the participant and afterwards they head to the "My Own" studio, where they meet the six challengers. Most times punch lines are said, causing laughing in the "audience". Then the trivia round starts. In this round the contestants have to answer trivia questions about the singer, followed by a mini singing and dancing round. Based on not only the results of this round but also on looks and (apparent) personality, the "chooser" chooses four contestants to pass to the next round. In the second round, the contestants show their houses and talk a bit about their hobbies and tastes, finishing every "dialog" with "that's why you should pick me as your own..." or "now that you've seen what I can do, pick me as your own...". In this part of the round the chooser and friends often laugh. Then, his/her friends take the four contestants to a competition that involves something that has to with the star in cause. Afterwards the chooser eliminates one contestant and the three that are left are going to fare against each other in a singing performance to determine the winner. The contestants are dressed like the video clip that the star appears in, they have singing and dancing training. It is a fact that each contestant has its weak and strong points. With advisory of their friends the chooser picks his/her contestant. The show has since been cancelled.
"Ashes" is the second single from English rock band Embrace's fourth studio album, Out of Nothing. This release was publicised by a fan campaign called G.A.T.N.O (Get Ashes to Number One). The song reached number 11.
The B-side, "Flaming Red Hair", started life as a cover version of Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Another B-side, "How Come", was originally performed on Jo Whiley's BBC Radio 1 show.
The songs "Maybe I Wish", "Flaming Red Hair", and a live version of "How Come" are featured on the B-sides compilation Dry Kids: B-Sides 1997-2005.
The song featured on the soundtrack of FIFA 06.
In the late summer of 2010, the track gained American notoriety through use in a commercial promoting the video game Madden NFL 11 that primarily aired on ESPN.
On 14 August 2014, Reading FC fans chose "Ashes" as their official club anthem.
The song was featured in the Veronica Mars episode "Normal Is the Watchword".
The Australian cricket team toured England in the 1977 season to play five Test matches for the 1977 Ashes series against England. The Australians also played three one day internationals and 19 other tour matches.
The Australian side had been quite strong in the early 1970s and had won the previous two Ashes series, 1974–75 at home and 1975 in England. Although it was not a contest for The Ashes, Australia and England had also played in the Centenary Test from 15 to 19 March 1977 to mark the 100th anniversary of the first Test match. Remarkably Australia won by exactly the same margin of 45 runs. However the tourists, led by new captain Greg Chappell, were rocked prior to the start of the 1977 Ashes series by the conflict between the Australian Cricket Board and Kerry Packer's Nine Network that emerged following the Centenary Test regarding the rights to television broadcasts of cricket in Australia. Packer wanted to transfer the rights to televised cricket from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) who had held the rights since 1956, to his own Nine Network and was prepared to pay a much larger amount than ABC. Despite this, the Australian Cricket Board refused, and Packer set about creating a rebel World Series Cricket league, successfully recruiting many star international players in the process.
The England cricket team toured Australia in the 1978-79 season to play a six-match Test series against Australia for The Ashes. England won the series 5-1, thereby retaining The Ashes.
This series was often over shadowed by Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket which meant many players from both sides were absent, including Greg Chappell. Australia were more handicapped which opened the way for England and their captain Mike Brearley.
MY OWN
Tommy Dorsey
My own let me call you my own
Let me make you a part of the song in my heart
Alone I'm just living in vain
Ev'rything that I do is depending on you
Show me a sign of your longing for me
Say you are mine and forever that you will be my own
Ev'ry dream I have known has been built of but one desire
Just to call you my own
