History of Biology

The beginning of study of biology can be traced way back to 19th century where the biological science emerged from traditional medicine and natural history. The word biology is from the combinations of greek words ""Bios"" which means ""Life"", and the suffix ""-logy"" meaning ""science of"", ""knowledge of"", ""study of"", based on the greek word/verb ""legein"" which means ""to select"" or ""to gather"". Biology is a subject with subdivisions such as botany, zoology and anatomy, all concerned with living organisms.
