Tempest Tours observes several tornadoes in Washington County, Colorado, on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. The three largest and longest-lived tornadoes were:
#1) about 10 miles south of Akron from 4:03 to 4:07 p.m. MDT,
#2) about 7 miles southeast of Akron from approximately 4:12 to 4:30 p.m. MDT, and
#3) a few miles SW to WSW of Otis from about 4:30 to 4:35 p.m. MDT. This third one might be a continuation of a new, small one that is visible to the right of tornado #2. If so, it started around 4:24 p.m. MDT.

Founded in Yonkers, New York, United States, in 1853 by Elisha Otis, the company pioneered the development of the "safety elevator", invented by Otis in 1852, which used a special mechanism to lock the elevator car in place should the hoisting ropes fail.

Otis has also dabbled in horizontal automated people-mover "shuttle" systems, such as the Otis Hovair. In 1996, Otis formed a joint venture called "Poma-Otis Transportation Systems" with the French company Pomagalski to promote these products, however the partnership has since ended.
Otis Elevator Company purchased Evans Lifts in the UK when Evans Lifts Ltd went bankrupt in 1997 during its merge with Express Lift Company with the name ExpressEvans. It was the oldest and largest manufacturer of lift equipment in the UK and was based in Leicester, England. Otis' Customer Care Centre is still based in the old Evans Lifts building in Leicester. The building has since been extended by Otis.
There are still some installations of Evans Lifts being used today. Very few lifts which are made by Otis themselves are branded as Evans. Notably, an original Evans Lift is still in the Silver Arcade in Leicester. It formerly transported people to the upper floors, but the upper floors are no longer occupied so the lift is no longer used...

At first I thought, "OK, this is just a Series 7", but after some careful analysis, I have discovered these were originally Otis Series 3 elevators! Beautiful Otis Series 3 modernized by plain old Series 7! WHY?!? That's what I'd like to know. The specifications can be found below.

Otis, Colorado
Otis is a Statutory Town in Washington County, Colorado, United States. The population was 534 at the 2000 census.
History
Otis was established in 1882 as a construction campsite for workers building the Burlington & Missouri River rail line from Lincoln Nebr to Denver, Colo. The post office opened in 1886 and the town was platted in 1887.
Geography
Otis is located at 40°9′2″N 102°57′45″W / 40.15056°N 102.96250°W / 40.15056; -102.96250 (40.150645, -102.962521).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 534 people, 218 households, and 146 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,304.8 people per square mile (502.9/km²). There were 248 housing units at an average density of 606.0 per square mile (233.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.57% White, 0.19% Native American, 1.69% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.00% of the population.

At first I thought, "OK, this is just a Series 7", but after some careful analysis, I have discovered these were originally Otis Series 3 elevators! Beautiful Otis Series 3 modernized by plain old Series 7! WHY?!? That's what I'd like to know. The specifications can be found below. In 1998, Hurricane Mitch ravaged Guanaja, and the natives were stripped of nearly everything, including almost 95% of their mangrove population which was a vital habitat to their fishery. When now head fishing guide Rankin Jackson was on the mainland working as a rafting guide he met Colorado trout bum Steve Brown and the two quickly shared a bond over fishing. "THAT'S NOT A NAME,"
The creature spoke sharply, its patience waning. "Stop lying. What do people call you?"
The little girl trembled, unsure how to satisfy the demanding creature's question.
"That's it. They call me evil. It's is the only thing anyone has ever called me,"
Though the little girl had only repeated her answer, it seemed to have calmed the creature's aggression... for that moment.
"That's a terrible name," the creature stood back and with its bony arm flung a rock into the pond in front of them. The little girl watched the rock rhythmically skim the water as it bounced several times before plunging beneath the depths. She could hardly contain her amazement.
"Are you a sorcerer?!"
"A sorcerer?" The creature snapped back as it puffed up its chest and stood face to face with the little girl. "Do I look like a sorcerer?"
"Of course not!" The little girl decided it best to give an answer that would induce the least amount of anger from the tempermental creature.
"Really now? You think I don't look intimidating enough to be a sorcerer, do you?" The creature raised a fist to the little girl who took a few steps back.
Finally, the creature lowered its fist and broke into laughter.
"Tortoise tits I'm joking. I'm not a sorcerer. I'm just a girl. Just a simple, boring, girl like you."
The creature tossed another rock into the pond that skipped five times before sinking beneath the water.
"I am?" The little girl watched the creature -- or the other girl, rather -- skip a third rock across the pond.
"Yes," the creature responded, "You are a girl. A very strange one at that."
The little smiled at the idea that she might bare some fragment of resemblance to this fascinating creature that stood next to her in the swamp...

"THAT'S NOT A NAME,"
The creature spoke sharply, its patience waning. "Stop lying. What do people call you?"
The little girl trembled, unsure how to satisfy the demanding creature's question.
"That's it. They call me evil. It's is the only thing anyone has ever called me,"
Though the little girl had only repeated her answer, it seemed to have calmed the creature's aggression... for that moment.
"That's a terrible name," the creature stood back and with its bony arm flung a rock into the pond in front of them. The little girl watched the rock rhythmically skim the water as it bounced several times before plunging beneath the depths. She could hardly contain her amazement.
"Are you a sorcerer?!"
"A sorcerer?" The creature snapped back as it puffed up its chest and stood face to face with the little girl. "Do I look like a sorcerer?"
"Of course not!" The little girl decided it best to give an answer that would induce the least amount of anger from the tempermental creature.
"Really now? You think I don't look intimidating enough to be a sorcerer, do you?" The creature raised a fist to the little girl who took a few steps back.
Finally, the creature lowered its fist and broke into laughter.
"Tortoise tits I'm joking. I'm not a sorcerer. I'm just a girl. Just a simple, boring, girl like you."
The creature tossed another rock into the pond that skipped five times before sinking beneath the water.
"I am?" The little girl watched the creature -- or the other girl, rather -- skip a third rock across the pond.
"Yes," the creature responded, "You are a girl. A very strange one at that."
The little smiled at the idea that she might bare some fragment of resemblance to this fascinating creature that stood next to her in the swamp...

Bonacca tells the story of a few Honduran fly fishing guides from the Bay Island of Guanaja. In 1998, Hurricane Mitch ravaged Guanaja, and the natives were stripped of nearly everything, including almost 95% of their mangrove population which was a vital habitat to their fishery. In Mitch's wake, an already struggling economy found it difficult to rebuild.
When now head fishing guide Rankin Jackson was on the mainland working as a rafting guide he met Colorado trout bum Steve Brown and the two quickly shared a bond over fishing. Rankin invited Brown to Guanaja to explore the fishery with him, and it was then that the story unfolded.
Jobs were close to none and still are, but Rankin and his brothers looked to their ancestral past as fishermen and quickly learned how to become fly fishing guides, chasing permit, tarpon, and bonefish. Fishing ran deep in their blood, but fly fishing was a new opportunity and way of life.
Bonacca offers a unique perspective, from the local fly fishing guide’s eyes, on the saltwater fly fishing world, and how it's benefiting themselves and their island by teaching sustainability and giving them hope for a brighter future. Mangroves are being planted and a treasured fish that was once a meal for the dinner table is now being protected.
The name stems from the largest town in Guanaja, Bonacca Cay.

Tempest Tours observes several tornadoes in Washington County, Colorado, on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. The three largest and longest-lived tornadoes were: #1) about 10 miles south of Akron from 4:03 to 4:07 p.m. MDT, #2) about 7 miles southeast of Akron from approximately 4:12 to 4:30 p.m. MDT, and #3) a few miles SW to WSW of Otis from about 4:30 to 4:35 p.m. MDT. At first I thought, "OK, this is just a Series 7", but after some careful analysis, I have discovered these were originally Otis Series 3 elevators! The Otis Elevator Company is the world's largest manufacturer of vertical transportation systems, principally focusing on elevators and escalators. Founded in Yonkers, New York, United States, in 1853 by Elisha Otis, the company pioneered the development of the "safety elevator", invented by Otis in 1852, which used a special mechanism to lock the elevator car in place should the hoisting ropes fail.
