Portland is a lousy place. If you live there, this is no surprise. Here are ONLY 10 of the reasons why you should never move to Portland, Oregon.
Portland. It used to be such a cool place. One of America’s neatest cities. The architecture, the culture, the funky neighborhoods and community cohesion. The sense of place and uniqueness and just outright charm - this city had an identity and vibe that was hard to match. Now, there’s definitely an identity and vibe that’s hard to match too, but not in a good way.
Of course, parts of downtown Portland still have some neat aspects to em, and the WHOLE place isn’t trashed and filled with out of control protesters. And if you looked REALLY hard - like REALLY hard, you could maybe find an affordable place to live that isn’t ruined.
But Portland is NOT a family friendly place anymore, nor one that you should consider moving to in order to begin a family. I guess it’s a relevant place if you’re young and lead an alternative lifestyle and like to break things and yell and scream a lot.
So, let’s unpeel the gross, urine stained layers of this city and talk about 10 reasons Portland Oregon sucks.

Portland, Oregon
Portland (/ˈpɔːrtlənd/) is the largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the seat of Multnomah County. It is located in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. The city covers 145 square miles (376 km²) and had an estimated population of 619,360 in 2014, making it the 28th most populous city in the United States. Approximately 2,348,247 people live in the Portland metropolitan statistical area (MSA), the 24th most populous MSA in the United States. Its Combined Statistical Area (CSA) ranks 17th with a population of 3,022,178. Roughly 60 percent of Oregon's population resides within the Portland metropolitan area.
Named after the city in Maine, Portland was settled in the 1830s near the end of the Oregon Trail. Its water access provided convenient transportation of goods, and the timber industry was a major force in the city's early economy. At the turn of the 20th century, the city had developed a reputation as one of the most dangerous port cities in the world, a hub for organized crime and racketeering. After the city's economy experienced an industrial boom during World War II, its hard-edged reputation began to dissipate. Beginning in the 1960s, Portland became noted for its growing liberal political values, and the city has earned a reputation as a bastion of counterculture, a view which has proceeded into the 21st century. According to a 2009 Pew Research Center study, Portland ranks as the 8th most popular American city, based on where people want to live.

Portland Union Station
Portland Union Station is an Amtrak train station near the west shore of the Willamette River in the Old Town Chinatown section of Portland, Oregon, United States. The station building also contains offices on the upper floors, as well as Wilf's Restaurant and Piano Bar on the ground level. It also has Amtrak's first Metropolitan Lounge (reserved for first-class sleeping car passengers) on the West Coast.
Southeast of the station, the tracks make a sharp turn and cross the river on the historic Steel Bridge. To the northwest, they follow the river, passing through rail yards before crossing the river again on the Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge 5.1.
The Portland Development Commission earns $200,000 a year from nearly 30 tenants. Amtrak, the main tenant, has a lease through 2010 with a renewal option through 2015.
Transit services
Union Station serves as a transportation hub for Portland. Portland's Greyhound bus station is the next building to the south, having moved to a new building there (from a location in the center of downtown) in 1985. Union Station connects to MAX Green and Yellow Line trains at the nearby Union Station/Northwest 6th & Hoyt Street and Union Station/Northwest 5th & Glisan Street stations, as well as local bus service provided by TriMet. Located at the northern end of TriMet's transit mall, Union Station is also only a short walk to both lines of the Portland Streetcar, in the Pearl District.

The sense of place and uniqueness and just outright charm - this city had an identity and vibe that was hard to match. Now, there’s definitely an identity and vibe that’s hard to match too, but not in a good way.
Of course, parts of downtown Portland still have some neat aspects to em, and the WHOLE place isn’t trashed and filled with out of control protesters. And if you looked REALLY hard - like REALLY hard, you could maybe find an affordable place to live that isn’t ruined.

Portland is a lousy place. If you live there, this is no surprise. Here are ONLY 10 of the reasons why you should never move to Portland, Oregon.
Portland. It used to be such a cool place. One of America’s neatest cities. The architecture, the culture, the funky neighborhoods and community cohesion. The sense of place and uniqueness and just outright charm - this city had an identity and vibe that was hard to match. Now, there’s definitely an identity and vibe that’s hard to match too, but not in a good way.
Of course, parts of downtown Portland still have some neat aspects to em, and the WHOLE place isn’t trashed and filled with out of control protesters. And if you looked REALLY hard - like REALLY hard, you could maybe find an affordable place to live that isn’t ruined.
But Portland is NOT a family friendly place anymore, nor one that you should consider moving to in order to begin a family. I guess it’s a relevant place if you’re young and lead an alternative lifestyle and like to break things and yell and scream a lot.
So, let’s unpeel the gross, urine stained layers of this city and talk about 10 reasons Portland Oregon sucks.

Portland, Oregon
Portland (/ˈpɔːrtlənd/) is the largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the seat of Multnomah County. It is located in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. The city covers 145 square miles (376 km²) and had an estimated population of 619,360 in 2014, making it the 28th most populous city in the United States. Approximately 2,348,247 people live in the Portland metropolitan statistical area (MSA), the 24th most populous MSA in the United States. Its Combined Statistical Area (CSA) ranks 17th with a population of 3,022,178. Roughly 60 percent of Oregon's population resides within the Portland metropolitan area.
Named after the city in Maine, Portland was settled in the 1830s near the end of the Oregon Trail. Its water access provided convenient transportation of goods, and the timber industry was a major force in the city's early economy. At the turn of the 20th century, the city had developed a reputation as one of the most dangerous port cities in the world, a hub for organized crime and racketeering. After the city's economy experienced an industrial boom during World War II, its hard-edged reputation began to dissipate. Beginning in the 1960s, Portland became noted for its growing liberal political values, and the city has earned a reputation as a bastion of counterculture, a view which has proceeded into the 21st century. According to a 2009 Pew Research Center study, Portland ranks as the 8th most popular American city, based on where people want to live.
