His best friend and protector is slightly older Jonathan Ben, better known as The Young Ben (as his father is referred to as The Ben), who is highly regarded as a problem by those in town who see themselves as the moral authority if only because of The Young Ben's association to The Ben, the town still keeper and drunk. Brian's life takes a turn when his parents have to leave town temporarily, while Brian stays on his Uncle Sean's farm. That stint leads to a series of events which make Brian see life around him through slightly older and wiser eyes.

During the training, Maisie learns that Paul is a hard-nosed, straight laced and outwardly unfeeling man, where she finds Officer Chip Dolan, who was formerly in bunco and is trying to get back into the squad, is more a kindred soul. If Maisie is able to make it through the training, she may get to work on the case of fortune teller who is swindling people out of vast sums of money, but not through the fortune readings in and of themselves. But working in bunco, Maisie will have to ensure that in addition to her training, that she uses her street smarts more than she exhibits her kind heart. The latter asset may however uncover the true nature of one of her colleagues.

Distance
I'll keep my distance
These things I never seem to mean
So I leave the murder scene
Honey
What God broke here
Won't go back together again
So I'll leave this while I can
He...
He... (very long and drawn out)
He...
He...
Nothing
to be scared of
my dreams, they keep a hold of me
my guides when I can't see
Cold
I will be thin
I'm sure your passing the test
I wish you all the best
He...
He...
He...
He...
He...
He...
He...
He...
He...
He...
