10 Things to do in Cardiff, Wales Travel Guide
Join us from Cardiff, Wales as we cover 10 things to do in Cardiff city including popular attractions, cool castes, green escapes, and Welsh food worth trying in this travel guide. Although we were sick for most of our visit to Cardiff, UK we ended up still finding enough time to visit the city center, our neighborhood and a few off-the-beaten path attractions.
What we loved most about Cardiff, Wales is just how friendly the locals here are in the supermarkets, restaurants, pubs and cafe that we frequented. On a rainy day we might put on the kettle, down a few Welsh cakes and pop open our umbrella for a wee stroll. When it was sunny, which fortunately for us was most of the time, we enjoyed exploring castles and arcades while wandering around in parks.

Cardiff Walk: City Centre【4K】
Located along the south coast of Wales, and approximately 25 miles from the border to England, is the city of Cardiff, or Caerdydd in Welsh.
Geographically Cardiff is situated along the River Taff, just adjacent to the Bristol Channel. It is the capital city of Wales, although it was only until 1955 that it was acknowledged as such.
A Roman fort was established in Cardiff circa 75 AD. It stood on the site of what is now Cardiff Castle. Under Norman occupation in the late 11th century a motte and bailey castle was built, and later rebuilt in stone during the 12th century.
In 1205 Cardiff was granted a market charter by King John. During the Middle Ages it was a busy port town. In 1327 Cardiff was declared a staple port, i.e. a designated port where specific goods are exported and importe...

Join us from Cardiff, Wales as we cover 10 things to do in Cardiff city including popular attractions, cool castes, green escapes, and Welsh food worth trying in this travel guide. Our visit Cardiff travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a Welsh food guide, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting neighborhoods, castles and museums. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Cardiff tourism brochure, Cardiff itinerary or Cardiff, Wales city tour.
10 Things to do in Cardiff, Wales Travel Guide Video Script:
Well hello hello from Cardiff, Wales. New destination for us. New destination. It is our very first time to Wales and we're so excited to be here. We've wanted to come to Wales for a really long time and we're going to explore Cardiff and show you guys what you can do here in this travel guide.
We started our visit of Cardiff Castle with a self-guided tour of the Castle Apartments. This is the newest-looking part of the castle as it was renovated in the early 19th century in the Gothic revival style. As part of the tour we got to see the Banqueting Hall, the Library, and a few different rooms, but the place that really caught our attention was the Arab room designed in a Moorish style which is quite different from the rest of the rooms.
We continued on to the Norman Keep, which dates to the 11th century. The 12-sided structure sits atop a hill and is surrounded by a moat, and if you climb to the very top you get some nice 360 degree views of the city.
And lastly, we visited the roman walls, and although these too have been renovated, the foundations date back to 50 AD.
And that’s it for our visit to Cardiff, Wales. Our trip was short and sweet but we hope this video gave you a few ideas of things to do in Cardiff on your own visit. Now you know the drill, if you have any other suggestions of cool things to do in and around Cardiff, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below. Wishing you happy travels!
This is part of our Travel in Wales video series showcasing Welsh food, Welsh culture and Welsh cuisine.

In 1327 Cardiff was declared a staple port, i.e. a designated port where specific goods are exported and imported. By the 16th century most of the foreign trade came from France and the Channel Islands.
From 1801 to 1900 the population of Cardiff went from around 2,000 to over 160,000 by 1900, with city status granted by Edward VII in 1905. This population boom was brought about by multiple factors. Firstly, the Glamorgan Canal was completed in 1794. The first barge, loaded with iron, made the trip from Merthyr Tydfil, just over 20 miles northwest of Cardiff. Then, in 1839, the first dock in Cardiff, Bute West Dock, was opened by the Marquis of Bute. And two years later, in 1841, the Taff Vale Railway between Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil opened. These factors made Cardiff a key player in the Industrial Revolution and beyond. Cardiff became a major exporter of coal mined from the Cynon, Rhondda and Rhymney valleys. In addition, Cardiff became a manufacturer of steel. To this day Celsa Steel UK, the UK's largest steel reinforcement manufacturer, operate from Cardiff.
Cardiff is home to several sporting teams, including Cardiff City Football Club, Cardiff Blues (professional regional rugby union), Cardiff RFC (semi-professional national rugby union), and Glamorgan County Cricket Club. In 1999 the Millennium Stadium opened in the city centre. With a capacity of around 74,000 it hosted the final of the rugby world cup of the same year. In addition it became the substitute location for football finals between 1999 and 2006 while the new Wembley Stadium was under construction. This included FA Cup, League Cup and Football League Playoff finals. Today it is known as the Principality Stadium, and is the national stadium of Wales in both football and rugby union.
During the walk we see four statues. The first, in order of appearance is the Miner Statue. Unveiled in 1993 it serves as a tribute to the coal miners of the valleys of South Wales. The second, on the other side of Queen Street, is of Aneurin Bevan, who was the Minister of Health during the birth of the National Health Service. The third statue is of John Batchelor. Born in 1820, Batchelor moved to Cardiff in his early twenties, where he played a key role in establishing Mount Stuart Dry Dock before launching a political career. The final statue of the walk is of Judge Gwilym Williams, situated fittingly outside Cardiff Crown Court. Williams become judge of the county courts of Glamorgan from 1885 until his death in 1906.
Famous people from Cardiff include Ivor Novello, Roald Dahl, John Humphrys, Shirley Bassey, Colin Jackson, Ryan Giggs and Gareth Bale, to name just a few.

HMP Cardiff removed for taking photos
Happy 420
Seems the security goons here were not happy with me taking a few videos.
I thought this prison was well over due a visit, but really only went to see the clink restaurant.
But as you can see the staff at Cardiff HMP are quite aggressive and very rude.
Mistaken for livefree 😂
Seems as they didn't want me at ground level I decided to take a quick trip to the top of the multistorey car park across the road for some better views

Bossy Governor at HMP Cardiff [AUDIT]
A collaboration audit alongside JB Wales Audits and Auditing Wales.
A senior rank official, Helen, at HMP Cardiff allowing us to film in a public place.
To be fair this went fairly well and unlike previous auditors' bad experiences, they seem to have learnt that their jurisdiction for public photographers lays further from what they originally thought.
But at least most of the staff were respectful.

Her Majesty's Prison Wakefield is a Category A men's prison, located in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. The prison is operated by Her Majesty's Prison Service, and is the largest high-security prison in the United Kingdom (and western Europe). The prison has been nicknamed the "Monster Mansion" due to the large number of high-profile offenders held there.
Wakefield Prison holds approximately 600 of Britain's most dangerous people, offenders and prisoners serving life sentences for violent crimes against women and children). Accommodation at the prison comprises single-occupancy cells with integral sanitation. All residential units have kitchens available for offenders to prepare their own meals. An Incentives and Earned Privileges system allows standard and enhanced offenders the opportunity of in-cell TV. All offenders are subject to mandatory drugs testing and there are voluntary testing arrangements, which are compulsory for all offenders employed as e.g. wing cleaners or kitchen workers.
HMP Wakefield offers a range of activities for inmates, including charity work, an accredited course in industrial cleaning, and a Braille shop where offenders convert books to Braille. The Education Department is operated by The Manchester College, and offers learning opportunities ranging from basic skills to Open University courses. Other facilities include a prison shop, gym, and multi-faith chaplaincy.
