Public Service Broadcasting - Sputnik
October 4th 1957 marked the start of the space age, when the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik I. The Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank Observatory was the largest radio telescope in the world and the only device that could track Sputnik’s carrier rocket.
The Lovell Telescope picked up Sputnik on 11 October 1957 – on the anniversary of that date in 2015, Public Service Broadcasting filmed the video for ‘Sputnik’ in front of the iconic structure.
The video celebrates the launch of the first satellite into earth orbit and highlight The Lovell Telescope’s role in making space exploration history.
The ‘Sputnik/Korolev’ EP will be released on 12” vinyl, CD & digital on 20 Novemberalong with 4 stellar remixes from Blond:ish, Petar Dundov, Eagles & Butterflies & Plugger.

Stereogum who premiered the song wrote: "Featuring clips of the Apollo 8 launch, 'The Other Side' plays like an epic sci-fi score that you can dance to at times. Short PA communications from ground control in Houston are enveloped by a synth bass sequence and a simple drum pattern which fades as the Apollo 8 comes into some peril toward the middle of the track. As ground control loses communication and the urgency in the agent's voice grows, the instrumentation returns to build to a climax with atmospheric synths, crashing cymbals, and more complex drum hits."

Public Service Broadcasting unveil the video for the first single from their upcoming second album, 'The Race For Space'. A brassy, funk-heavy superhero theme song for the most famous man in the world at the time, ‘Gagarin’ reveals a new side to the band – not least their considerable dancing skills.
Once again given access to newly acquired BFI footage, this time of the Soviet space race, PSB’s J. Willgoose, Esq. explained the rationale behind the song: “We didn’t want to be too literal in our interpretation of the material we were given – material that was full of heroic language and a sense of exuberance, with lines like ‘the hero who blazed the trail to the stars’, and ‘the whole world knew him and loved him’. It seemed more appropriate to try and re-create some of that triumphant air with a similarly upbeat song – and when it came to creating the video, the best way we could think of to communicate that sense of joy was to get our dancing shoes on.”
