"Nothing" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Dwight Yoakam. It was released in October 1995 as the first single from the album Gone. The song reached #20 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. The song was written by Yoakam and Kostas.

The Arts Desk describes it as "the song about theatrical pretension". Metro Theatre Arts wrote the song had "the essence of a star waiting to bloom". CT Theatre News and Reviews described the song as "dead-on and quite moving". The Independent "hilarious, gutsy to attack...that is one of the best songs in Marvin Hamlisch's snappy, agile score".

Nothing (band)

Nothing is an American rock band that formed in 2011. The band signed to Relapse Records and released its debut album Guilty of Everything in March 2014. The band are currently recording their follow up LP which is set to be released in 2016.

History

Nothing founder Domenic Palermo was previously a member of the hardcore punk band Horror Show. The short-lived band only released a pair of EPs through Jacob Bannon of Converge's Deathwish Inc. during its existence. Horror Show was put on hold when Palermo stabbed another man during a fight and spent two years in jail for aggravated assault and attempted murder. About this period in his life, Palermo said: "It was kind of a violent time. We were going to shows and kind of, like, fucking shit up for the whole [hardcore] scene." He also performed in XO Skeletons, which featured Wesley Eisold (Give Up the Ghost, Cold Cave).

Following his stint in jail and performing in punk bands, Palermo spent about four years soul searching. He said: "I didn't know what else to do with my life, what would make me want to wake up every day. I really struggled with that for like four years and, not to sound dramatic or anything, but I thought about blowing my brains out every day." Palermo began making music again and released a demo titled Poshlost under the name "Nothing" in 2011. Nothing went through several line up changes over the next few years and also released the EPs Suns and Lovers and Downward Years to Come.

Rat (film)

Rat is a 2000 Irish/British/American comedy film directed by Steve Barron. The film focuses on the transformation of a working-class man into a rat and how his family copes with the startling change.

Synopsis

After his usual night of drinking at the local pub, Hubert Flynn (Pete Postlethwaite) returns home and transforms into a rat. Hubert's family each have different views on him now that he became a rodent. His wife Conchita (Imelda Staunton) thinks that this change is supposed to be a lesson to Hubert and that the reason he transformed is his own fault. Their son Pius (Andrew Lovern), destined for a religious life, feels that because his father is now an animal, his family should kill him. Their daughter Marietta (Kerry Condon) feels that the rat is still her father and that they should treat him with love and respect.

After hearing the news of a man changing into a rat on the local radio, ghostwriter Phelim Spratt (David Wilmot) convinces Conchita to write a book of the story. Because Phelim wants to write about Conchita's bravery and the family's loyalty to Hubert in the face of adversity, he suggests that they take Hubert out to the pub and bookie to see his friends and to show the public that they are proud of him.

"Rat" is a science fiction short story by James Patrick Kelly. It was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Short Story 1987, and the Nebula Award for Best Short Story in 1986. Also nominated for Lucas Poll Award category for best short story and also nominated for SF Chronicle Award for the same category. Plot summary

In this cyberpunk story the protagonist is literally a rat, though clearly not an ordinary one. Rat has been given the mission to smuggle a large amount of drugs, but decides that he wants to cut out the middle the man and keep the entire haul for himself. Rat tries to sneak out of sight from the spook that was hired to watch him and the fed who also put onto his tail. After Rat is able to finally get away from the two he makes it to his safe house. Only there to have to fight and claw to be able to move the drug haul and save his life as well.

Rat Subterranean News, New York's second major underground newspaper, was created in March 1968, primarily by editor Jeff Shero, Alice Embree and Gary Thiher, who moved up from Austin, Texas, where they had been involved in The Rag.

Beginnings

Probably more than any other underground paper, Rat was in the eye of the political hurricane, making news as well as reporting it. Rat immediately attained national notoriety for its exclusive inside stories from the Columbia University student uprising in the spring of 1968. Its notoriety grew further when a couple of staff members (including star reporter Jane Alpert) were arrested in connection with a series of non-lethal bombings of corporate offices and military targets in late 1969. Its reputation took a new turn when it became the first bastion of sexism within "the revolution" to be successfully stormed by the forces of the emerging women's movement in early 1970. In its new incarnation as Women's LibeRATion, it lasted another few issues into the fall of 1970.
