Pianist Junghwa Lee featured at Sandzén Gallery Chamber Music Concert


LINDSBORG — Pianist Junghwa Lee will perform at the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. She will be playing selections by Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Clara Schumann. The recital is a part of the Sandzén Gallery's 2021-2022 chamber music series.

Lee, a native of Korea, performs actively in solo recitals, chamber concerts and lecture recitals and has frequently appeared in concerto performances as a soloist. Lee has presented solo performances in 16 countries and has won many competitions in Korea. She has also presented at various conferences and has released a new album Clara Schumann: Piano Works, commemorating the 200th anniversary of her birth.

Lee received her bachelor and master's degrees in piano performance from Seoul National University. She earned her doctorate of musical arts degree in piano performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music. Lee served as visiting assistant professor of piano at Oklahoma State University, assistant professor of piano at Fort Hays State University and is currently associate professor of piano at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and artistic director of the Southern Illinois Piano Festival.
