Claudine...! (クローディーヌ...!, Kurōdīnu...!) is a classic Shoujo manga set in the turn of early 20th century France. It was written by Riyoko Ikeda and the tankōbon was released on May 20, 1978.
The story follows a transgender man named Claudine from childhood to adulthood. His worried mother takes him to see a doctor, who in fact finds nothing wrong with the young Claudine. The two become friends and the doctor narrates the story of Claudine's roller coaster life as he falls for several women and we learn a dark secret about Claudine's father.
Claudine first fell in love with his servant girl, Maura. Maura loved him back, but was sent back to her home once Claudine told his parents that he wanted to marry her. Claudine then fell in love with Cecilia, but Cecilia was not interested and secretly having an affair with Claudine's father, Auguste; Louis, Cecilia's brother, found out about their affair and killed Cecilia and Auguste out of jealousy because he'd once been Auguste's lover. It is revealed that the adult Auguste had fallen in love with Louis when Louis was just a boy; Claudine had seen the two of them together when he was eight years old.
Claudine may refer to:
The Claudine series consists of four early novels by the French author Colette, published 1900-1904. Written in diary form, they describe the growth to maturity of a young girl, Claudine. Aged fifteen at the beginning of the first book, Claudine à l'école, the series describes her education and experiences as she grows up. All the books are written in first-person with the first three having Claudine herself as the narrator. The last in the series, Claudine s'en va, introduces a new narrator, Annie.
The novels were written in the late 19th century in collaboration with Colette's first husband, the writer Henry Gauthier-Villars, better known by his nom-de-plume "Willy". There has been much speculation over the degree of involvement of both Colette and Willy in the writing of the Claudine novels, particularly as Willy was known for often using ghostwriters. Consequently although the novels were originally attributed to Willy only and published under his name alone, they were later published under both names. After the death of Willy, Colette went to court to challenge her former husband's involvement in any of the writing, and subsequently had his name removed from the books. This decision however was overturned after her death, as Willy's son from a prior relationship, Jacques Gauthier-Villars, successfully sued to have his father's name restored.
Stephen Fry stars as playwright and larger-than-life personality Oscar Wilde in this lush historical drama based on the late Richard Ellmann's definitive biography of one of London's most prolific writers and orators. The story traces Wilde's rise to fame -- from his marriage to Constance (Jennifer Ehle) to his sweeping, torrid affair with a young Oxford graduate, Lord Alfred Douglas (Jude Law), that brought about his imprisonment and downfall.

Wilde (1997), clip with Stephen Fry and Tom Wilkinson and Jude Law, at about the 50:00 mark of the original movie. Segment used in a Rhetoric class to show an on-screen bit of argument, discuss the meaning of libel and slander, to advise never engaging in an argument when the facts aren't on your side, and to give a real-world example on why one should always check one's spelling (there's only one 'm' in sodomite--don't be famous for messing that up).
