Mura Masa

Mura Masa is back, but the future bass pop crossover doesn't sound quite the same. He's got a new emphasis on guitars and songwriting, and he tapped up-and-coming folk-popper Clairo to give his new vibe wings. The single is called "I Don't Think I Can Do This Again," and it's the first from a forthcoming second album.

The song was released alongside a psychedelic music video, directed by Thomas Hardiman, that features Clairo and some twisted humans romping through back field farmland.

"I Don't Think I Can Do This Again" plays mostly sweet, with some brown-note sour. It's like the chorus hits with the realization that things in your life aren't going so well. The heavy-synth bass hook is wildly reminiscent of the iconic lick from Gary Numan's "M.E.," famously sampled by Basement Jaxx "Where's Your Head At."

“This is the beginning of rolling out a new direction for Mura Masa, which has a much heavier focus on band and guitar music,” says Mura Masa, a.k.a. Guernsey-born 23-year-old Alex Crossan. “Punk and new wave is the music I grew up playing so it feels like an exciting return for me. I’m thrilled to debut this new sound with one of indie music’s most exciting and talented songwriting newcomers in Clairo. To me, this is the zeitgeist of the next year in music; a new type of band.”

Masa hit the scene hard in 2015 with Soundcloud productions that made the world weep tears of joy and headbang wonky bodies. His self-titled debut album broke the Billboard 200 with features from A$AP Rocky, Damon Albarn and others. While the name and release date of Masa's sophomore LP haven't been revealed, he is hitting the road for a couple live festival dates.
