The Berlin Wall (1961-1989)
The Berlin wall would become a symbol of ideological division and suppression of human rights during the Cold War.
In August 1961, the Communist government of the German Democratic Republic of East Germany began construction of the wall and placement of barbed wire between west Berlin and the East.

At 12:16 one of the famous bridges dividing East and West Berlin is shown with the ominous sign reading -- You Are Leaving the American Sector. It's been 30 years since one of the 20th century's biggest historic events: the fall of the Berlin Wall. Although the East German dictatorship subsequently collapsed, cultural and political divisions remain, more than a generation after reunification. Special correspondent Malcolm Brabant reports on the wall's legacy, the polarizing issue of immigration and the lingering stain of anti-Semitism.

Dieses Video entstand im Frühjahr 1987 im Rahmen der damaligen 750-Jahr-Feier meiner Heimatstadt mit Hilfe eines VHS-Camcorders und zeigt einige der markantesten Sehenswürdigkeiten des "alten" West-Berlins - nur wenige Jahre vor dem Fall der Berliner Mauer.

Dieses Video entstand im Frühjahr 1987 im Rahmen der damaligen 750-Jahr-Feier meiner Heimatstadt mit Hilfe eines VHS-Camcorders und zeigt einige der markantesten Sehenswürdigkeiten des "alten" West-Berlins - nur wenige Jahre vor dem Fall der Berliner Mauer.
Zu sehen sind u.a.:
• ICC Berlin und Funkturm
• Ku'damm und Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche (Achtung: bei 3:00 sind, ohne es damals zu ahnen, die Kelly-Family in Aktion!)
• Europa Center (innen und Aufnahmen vom damaligen "i-Punkt" auf dem Dach), "Wasserklops", Breitscheidplatz
• Tauentzienstraße, "Royal Palast"-Kino
• Brandenburger Tor und Leipziger Platz
• Reichstagsgebäude (damals konnte man noch mit dem Privat-PKW direkt vor den Eingang fahren)
