Ready for a culture shock, yet haunted by fading memories of his childhood, Diaan filmed his journey with an adoring eye, eager to capture every moment. He cautiously traversed the streets without a crew or equipment, armed only with a hand-held camera small enough to hide from the authorities, hoping that somehow he would be able to smuggle his tapes out of the country without them being confiscated. Through candid and unrehearsed interviews on the streets, Diaan delves into the hearts and minds of a humble people surrounded on the one hand by the remnants of mythical Persia, and the encroaching realities of a modern world on the other. What strikes him most, however, is the beauty and promise of a bright new generation of Iranian youth that is sure to demand the freedom and the happinesss that the citizens of every land deserve.

The Great Smog of 1952 | A Short Documentary | Fascinating Horror
On the 5th of December, 1952, an unusually heavy fog descended on London. It remained in place for five days, bringing the capital to a standstill… and yet it caused no panic. Fog was a common phenomenon within London and, dramatic as this fog was, it was thought of as just another example of typically British weather. It wouldn’t be until much later that the true cost of the Great Smog of 1952 was realised.

The fact that, as one of the world's most powerful women, Merkel sometimes does the shopping herself, probably says a lot about her pers...

02:07 - The Great Smog of 1952
06:54 - The Aftermath
I tell the true stories behind some of history's greatest disasters... but without sensationalism or disturbing imagery. Fascinating Horror is all about in-depth research, respectful storytelling, and learning what we can from the mistakes of the past. You might be surprised to discover just how much of today's world is shaped by long-forgotten disasters from decades gone by.

She's one of the world's most powerful women. But, after deciding to give up office, Angela Merkel will soon leave her leading position in German and international politics. Foreign correspondents look back on Merkel's 16 years as chancellor.
Eight correspondents from eight nations look back — including Pascal Thibaut of France, US journalist Patrick Donahue and Jun Nojima of Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun, who considers Angela Merkel a guardian of Western democracy. Others warn against exaggerating Merkel's influence. What they all have in common is that they have followed the chancellor for years, even to the produce section of her local supermarket. The fact that, as one of the world's most powerful women, Merkel sometimes does the shopping herself, probably says a lot about her personality. A report by Robert Richter.

In the mines of Paracale, workers search for gold using the world’s most dangerous methods. Diving into flooded underground caves, they constantly risk their lives. The business is illegal. But for many, it is the only way they can earn money.
In the past, the mineral trade flourished in the small Philippine coastal town of Paracale. Today, it is riddled with gold prospectors. The illegal gold business brings in an estimated $700 million a year. A dirty industry, it has shaped the town and the lives of residents for decades. Now, there are hardly any other ways to earn a living there.
The dangerous search for gold in flooded caves destroys both the environment and many lives. So why does it continue unabated? Looking for answers, this documentary follows the gold trade’s trail, from divers to traders, investors and the black market.
