Alexandria, Delta et cetera: Ancient Egyptian Toponymy and Modern Historiographical Erasure
Presentation by Katherine Blouin (University of Toronto Scarborough Historical & Cultural Studies)
A 6-month JHI Faculty Research Fellow in 2019-20, Prof. Blouin’s research explores the environmental history of the ancient Menzaleh Lake area (Egypt’s NE Nile Delta), and the history, historiography, and reception of the pre- and early-Hellenistic history of Alexandria and its hinterland (Egypt’s NW Nile Delta). Her presentation, the first to appear in this year’s JHI Alumni Research Lecture Series, contributes to both academic and public-facing conversations about the intersections between imperialism and colonialism in both classical antiquity and contemporary Turtle Island.

PCTO 4ª A Info. I Female toponymy - Marisa Bellisario
Marisa Bellisario, despite experiencing the drama of the Second World War, managed to distinguish herself in the workplace by becoming the first female manager in Italy, and becoming President of Olivetti of America at the end of the 70s. In the 1980s, she completely restructured Italtel, making it a cutting-edge company, not only in the industrial field, but also in the workplace with the considerable increase of women graduates employed by the company. During these years she also became President of the section on new technologies within the National Commission for the realization of equality between men and women, and continued to follow her work as CEO of Italtel despite the illness that led to her death.
