I did this interview at Cecil's house during November 2011.
Cecil did service in the SAAF during ww2 from 1942- 1945.
He flew Curtiss Tomahawks in North Africa and was shot down claimed by Joachim Marseille.
He later flew Spitfires in Malta, Sicily and Italy until the end of the war.
Cecil was a squadron leader and a DFC recipient.

Hans-Joachim Walter Rudolf Siegfried Marseille (13 December 1919 – 30 September 1942; German pronunciation: [hants joˈaχɪm mɑrˈseɪ]) was a German fighter pilot during World War II. A flying ace, he is noted for his aerial battles during the North African Campaign. Marseille claimed all but seven of his 158 victories against the British Desert Air Force over North Africa. No other pilot claimed as many Western Allied aircraft as Marseille.[1]
Marseille joined the Luftwaffe, the air force of Nazi Germany, in 1938. At the age of 20 he participated in the Battle of Britain, without notable success. As a result of poor discipline, he was transferred to another unit (JG 27), which relocated to North Africa in April 1941.
Under the guidance of his new commander, Marseille quickly developed his abilities as a fighter pilot. He reached the zenith of his career on 1 September 1942, when during the course of three combat sorties he claimed 17 Allied aircraft. For this he received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. A month later, Marseille was killed in a flying accident after his aircraft suffered engine failure. Forced to abandon his fighter, Marseille struck its vertical stabiliser and was either killed instantly or incapacitated and unable to open his parachute

Hans-Joachim Walter Rudolf Siegfried Marseille (* 13. Dezember 1919 in Charlottenburg b. Berlin; † 30. September 1942 sieben Kilometer südlich von Sidi Abdel Rahman , Ägypten) war ein deutscher Jagdflieger und Offizier im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Als Fliegerass mit den meisten Abschüssen auf dem nordafrikanischen Kriegsschauplatz wurde er durch die nationalsozialistische Propaganda unter dem Namen Stern von Afrika bekannt.
Am 22. Februar 1942 erzielte Marseille als erfolgreichster Pilot seines Geschwaders den 50. Abschuss, wofür er mit dem Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes ausgezeichnet und zum Oberleutnant befördert wurde. Als Homuth im Mai die gesamte Gruppe übernahm, rückte Marseille zum Staffelführer auf. In den folgenden Monaten erzielte er meist zwei bis fünf Feindabschüsse pro Luftkampf. Marseille war nicht nur in Deutschland zu einer Berühmtheit geworden, sondern auch bei seinen Gegnern.
Im Juni 1942 erhielt Marseille als zweiter Pilot seines Jagdgeschwaders nach 75 Luftsiegen das Eichenlaub zum Ritterkreuz. Er war zu diesem Zeitpunkt der 97. Soldat, der diese Auszeichnung erhielt. Am 17. Juni verkündete das Jagdgeschwader 27 den 100. Abschuss von Marseille. Er war damit der erste Jagdflieger, der die Marke 100 gegen westalliierte Piloten erreicht hatte. Die darauf folgende Verleihung der Schwerter zum Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub fand direkt in Berlin statt. Bis dahin war diese hohe Auszeichnung erst an 12 Soldaten verliehen worden.

Hans-Joachim Marseille (13 December 1919 – 30 September 1942; German pronunciation: [hants joˈaχɪm mɑrˈseɪ]) was a Luftwaffe fighter pilot and flying ace during World War II. He is noted for his aerial battles during the North African Campaign and his Bohemian lifestyle. One of the most successful fighter pilots, he was nicknamed the "Star of Africa". Marseille claimed all but seven of his "official" 158 victories against the British Commonwealth's Desert Air Force over North Africa, flying the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter for his entire combat career. No other pilot claimed as many Western Allied aircraft as Marseille.
Marseille, of French Huguenot ancestry, joined the Luftwaffe in 1938. At the age of 20 he graduated from one of the Luftwaffe's fighter pilot schools just in time to participate in the Battle of Britain, without notable success. A charming person, he had such a busy night life that sometimes he was too tired to be allowed to fly the next morning. As a result, he was transferred to another unit, which relocated to North Africa in April 1941.

North Africa
North Africa or Northern Africa is the northernmost region of Africa. Geopolitically, the United Nations definition of Northern Africa includes seven countries and territories; Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, and Western Sahara. Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, often Mauritania and Western Sahara form the Maghreb, while Egypt and Sudan comprise the Nile Valley (so named after the Nile River, which has two tributaries; the White Nile and Blue Nile). Egypt is a transcontinental country because of the Sinai Peninsula, which geographically lies in West Asia. North Africa also includes a number of Spanish possessions (Ceuta and Melilla and tiny Spanish islets off the coast of Morocco). The Canary Islands and the Portuguese Madeira Islands, in the North Atlantic Ocean northwest of the African mainland, are sometimes included in considerations of the region.
The distinction between North Africa and much of Sub-Saharan Africa is historically and ecologically significant because of the effective barrier created by the Sahara Desert for much of modern history. From 3500 BC, following the abrupt desertification of the Sahara due to gradual changes in the Earth's orbit, this barrier has culturally separated the North from the rest of the continent. As the seafaring civilizations of the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Muslims and others facilitated communication and migration across the Mediterranean Sea, the cultures of North Africa became much more closely tied to Southwestern Asia and Europe than Sub-Saharan Africa. The Islamic influence in the area is also significant, and North Africa is a major part of the Islamic world.

The most famous and probably best known fighter pilot outside the Germany Luftwaffe was Adolf Galland. Many people perceive him as the greatest German ace ever, but Galland believed this title should belong to Hans-Joachim Marseille, who, in his opinion, was the "unrivalled virtuoso among fighter pilots of the Second World War". Marseille claimed 158 victories against the West pilots. Adolf Galland shot down 104 planes, but was forbidden to fly combat missions between December 1941 and the end of 1944, by Adolf Hitler himself! After being promoted to the rank of General of the Fighter Arm, he became the youngest general in the whole German Armed Forces, by the age of 30. He was awarded Germany's highest awards, seeing combat all over the Western Europe, including Spain, Poland, France, Italy and Germany. Galland was one of the few achieving great results both on the frontline as well as on the command levels. Hans-Joachim Marseille (1919 - 1942) was a Luftwaffe fighter pilot and flying ace during World War II. He is noted for his aerial battles during the North African Campaign and his bohemian lifestyle. One of the best fighter pilots of World War II, he was nicknamed the "Star of Africa". Marseille claimed all but seven of his "official" 158 victories against the British Commonwealth's Desert Air Force over North Africa, flying the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter for his entire combat career. No other pilot claimed as many Western Allied aircraft as Marseille. Marseille, of French Huguenot ancestry, joined the Luftwaffe in 1938. At the age of 20 he graduated from one of the Luftwaffe's fighter pilot schools just in time to participate in the Battle of Britain, without notable success. A charming person, he had such a busy night life that sometimes he was too tired to be allowed to fly the next morning. As a result, he was transferred to another unit, which relocated to North Africa in April 1941. Under the guidance of his new commander, who recognised the hidden potential in the young officer, Marseille quickly developed his abilities as a fighter pilot. He reached the zenith of his fighter pilot career on September 1, 1942, when during the course of three combat sorties he claimed 17 enemy fighters shot down, earning him the Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub, Schwertern und Brillanten (Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds). Only 29 days later, Marseille was killed in a flying accident, when an engine failure forced him to abandon his fighter. After he exited the smoke-filled cockpit, Marseille's chest struck the vertical stabiliser of his aircraft, either killing him instantly, or incapacitating him so that he was unable to open his parachute. I did this interview at Cecil's house during November 2011. Cecil did service in the SAAF during ww2 from 1942- 1945. He flew Curtiss Tomahawks in North Africa and was shot down claimed by Joachim Marseille. He later flew Spitfires in Malta, Sicily and Italy until the end of the war. Cecil was a squadron leader and a DFC recipient.

The Greatest Fighter Pilots - Adolf "Dolfo" Galland
The most famous and probably best known fighter pilot outside the Germany Luftwaffe was Adolf Galland. Many people perceive him as the greatest German ace ever, but Galland believed this title should belong to Hans-Joachim Marseille, who, in his opinion, was the "unrivalled virtuoso among fighter pilots of the Second World War". Marseille claimed 158 victories against the West pilots. Adolf Galland shot down 104 planes, but was forbidden to fly combat missions between December 1941 and the end of 1944, by Adolf Hitler himself! After being promoted to the rank of General of the Fighter Arm, he became the youngest general in the whole German Armed Forces, by the age of 30. Hans-Joachim Walter Rudolf Siegfried Marseille (* 13. Dezember 1919 in Charlottenburg b. Berlin; † 30. The most famous and probably best known fighter pilot outside the Germany Luftwaffe was Adolf Galland. Many people perceive him as the greatest German ace ever, but Galland believed this title should belong to Hans-Joachim Marseille, who, in his opinion, was the "unrivalled virtuoso among fighter pilots of the Second World War". Marseille claimed 158 victories against the West pilots. Adolf Galland shot down 104 planes, but was forbidden to fly combat missions between December 1941 and the end of 1944, by Adolf Hitler himself!
After being promoted to the rank of General of the Fighter Arm, he became the youngest general in the whole German Armed Forces, by the age of 30. He was awarded Germany's highest awards, seeing combat all over the Western Europe, including Spain, Poland, France, Italy and Germany. Galland was one of the few achieving great results both on the frontline as well as on the command levels.

One of the best fighter pilots of World War II, he was nicknamed the "Star of Africa". Marseille claimed all but seven of his "official" 158 victories against the British Commonwealth's Desert Air Force over North Africa, flying the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter for his entire combat career. No other pilot claimed as many Western Allied aircraft as Marseille. Marseille, of French Huguenot ancestry, joined the Luftwaffe in 1938. At the age of 20 he graduated from one of the Luftwaffe's fighter pilot schools just in time to participate in the Battle of Britain, without notable success. A charming person, he had such a busy night life that sometimes he was too tired to be allowed to fly the next morning. As a result, he was transferred to another unit, which relocated to North Africa in April 1941. Under the guidance of his new commander, who recognised the hidden potential in the young officer, Marseille quickly developed his abilities as a fighter pilot. He reached the zenith of his fighter pilot career on September 1, 1942, when during the course of three combat sorties he claimed 17 enemy fighters shot down, earning him the Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub, Schwertern und Brillanten (Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds). Only 29 days later, Marseille was killed in a flying accident, when an engine failure forced him to abandon his fighter. After he exited the smoke-filled cockpit, Marseille's chest struck the vertical stabiliser of his aircraft, either killing him instantly, or incapacitating him so that he was unable to open his parachute. From a distance, one of Marseille's main landmarks rises high above the harbor, the seafarers' church of Notre-Dame de la Garde. With abundant internal furnishings, Byzantine arches, golden mosaics and numerous votives, it is a splendid structure inspired by Byzantine Romanic design.
The most impressive religious building in Marseille is a fortified monastery church that dates back to the 5th century, the mighty Abbaye Saint-Victor. Deep down in the rock is an Early Christian crypt and a number of stone sarcophaguses that contain the remains of various holy martyrs that date back to the Roman persecution of the Christians.
A boat trip from Cassis leads to one of the most beautiful coastal areas in Europe, Les Calanques, a unique nature reserve where shining white limestone cliffs plunge more than 400 metres into the deep blue sea and extend for 20 kilometres.
Sur le pont D'avignon is a world famous French song that is familiar to both young and old alike. It is a song of dance on the bridge of the Pont Saint Bénézet but it is more likely that the people here once danced under the bridge, as that is the location of its bars!

It was so vast inside and cool and calm on a hot windy day. Keep an eye out for Anders reaction to his first ride in a "proper" ferris wheel at 4:20 .

With a central Vieux Port in the heart of the city, Marseille produces some of the finest seafood on the Mediterranean. Leaving Barcelona, The Best City in the World. Off to France! Marseille, here we come!
Welcome to the region of Provence, France.
Just Landed in Marseille, Maddy's in France! Put that on the Bucket List.
Maddy: "Oui, Oui."
King of the North! Yah! We're in Marseille, going to grab the bags and head to the city center. You can take a shuttle for 8 euro over here so we're going to the city center, drop off our bags at the train station and have some lunch.
So we got our bags, I was just worried about searching for a Starbucks in Marseille City but no need, Starbucks at the airport! Going to cop the mug now.
And there it is, and they got Lyon! ...YES! So Marseille Airport has France, Marseille, little expresso mugs and Lyon. That's freaking awesome, I don't have to go on a search for it now.
The airport shuttle to the city center of Marseille will take you about 25 minutes and will cost you 8 euro. Visit the airport website Marseille.aeroport.fr to book your shuttle in advance.
We're in Marseille at the train station (Gare de Marseille Saint Charles) and we're going to leave our bags here for a couple of hours and then go have some lunch and check out Notre Dame de la Garde. Got to drop the bags off real quick. It's over this way so come follow me.... KING OF THE NORTH!
We're looking for the subway Brah.
Maddy: To go where?
To go to the Vieux Port.
Me and Pops are here in Marseille looking around, check out the Vieux Port. Were going to walk over this way and go kick it.
Hey Maddy.
Maddy: We're in Francois.
We are in Les Echevins right now and having red wine, were here for lunch. Go it off of TripAdvisor, they rated it high so I figured we'd try it out and we're going to check out Notre Dame de la Garde after. So we got our Appetizers, I got the squid with a little salad and some bread. Maddy got the Chicken Caesar Salad. First meal in France, Bon a petit!
So our main course just came in and we got this off of Trip Advisor so we get 20% off and it's like a course deal. I have the Risotto with Shrimp and some squid and maybe some scallops.
And Maddy got the... what did you get Maddy?
Maddy: Steak, beef with french fries and a little bit of salad.
Looks Good!
Alot of French Restaurants have English translated menus.
First French meal, Fantastic!
Maddy: We have leftovers.
We've got leftovers for the hotel. Restaurant Les Echevins, I recommend it, it's like off the beaten path corner. Away from the tourist traps (It's reasonable). TripAdvisor gives you 20 percent off and the bill wasn't bad at all so try it out!
Were here at the Vieux Port, Center of the city of Marseille. I just had a great lunch, I'm about five pounds heavier now and check out all the yachts. Marseille is a big seafood town so alot of food here is very fresh. I had some of the most fresh squid I've ever had. So let's go explore!
There's the little Petit Train (Les petits trains de Marseille). A round trip to Notre Dame de la Garde on the Les Petit Train will cost you about 8 euro and take about 3 hours. So me and Maddy are on the Les Petit Train to go to Notre Dame de la Garde which is featured on the Starbucks mug. Found it at the airport, don't have to look for one in town.
We're up at the top of the hill overlooking the city of Marseille with Maddy.
We're here at Notre Dame de la Garde, look at the view of Marseille from here and the French Riviera right there, turn around up to the Notre Dame de la Garde. Very beautiful scenery.
After a quick photo op it was back down the hill to the Vieux Port. The les Petit Train leaves every 20 minutes from the exact same spot (at Notre Dame de la Garde parking lot).
So we were here for about 4 and a half hours and we utilized our time right. Had a great lunch, went to the Vieux Port, took the le Petit Train up to Notre Dame de la Garde and now were back and got some Marseille Soap.
Maddy: For you Mom.
For Mother.
Well it's Au Revoir from Marseille. Next on Jaycation, we take a boat ride over to Monaco. We visit the famous Monte Carlo Casino and check out the streets of the famous (Monaco) Grand Prix.

5. Parc national des Calanques
It is a national park, established in 2012. It includes parts of the Massif des Calanques stretching between Marseille and Cassis.
It extends over 520 km2 (201 sq mi), of which 85 km2 (33 sq mi) is land, while the remaining is marine area.

I've heard a lot about this game and I couldn't wait to check it out. I cant compare the gameplay to any game I've ever played but as I express in the video the closest it comes to is a cross of the Sims and Football Manager; leaning more towards the Sims in terms of game mechanics. Im going to reserve judgement on it until I get a chance to play some more of the game, get to grips with the buttons and game mechanics and test the longevity of the game. I found these fascinating interviews while surfing the web. 60 some odd interview films in all, on various subjects related to Dr. Migeod's career as a Stuka pilot in WW2. I thought, "Wouldn't it be nice if someone would splice them all together in order so you could sit back without all that clicking and enjoy." So I did. Here is the original interviewers description. All the work was his: "I performed this interview at Dr Migeod's house on 31 May 2010 in Somerset West South Africa. Dr Migeod is 92 years old and was a Luftwaffe stuka pilot who saw service in France, BOB, Balkans, Crete and Africa." Hans-Joachim Marseille was a Luftwaffe fighter pilot and flying ace during World War II. He is noted for his aerial battles during the North African Campaign and his Bohemian lifestyle. Markus Lang, Peter Krüsi und Thomas Binz haben seit ihrer Kindheit denselben Traum: Den Traum vom Fliegen. Doch dieser Traum wurde nie wahr. Dafür haben die drei einen Ausweg gefunden. Aus alten Fliegern bauen sie Simulatoren – nun gar einen Jumbo.
Schon als Bub war für Markus Lang (52) klar: «Eines Tages will ich Jumbo-Pilot werden.» Die Boeing 747 hat es ihm durch ihre schiere Grösse und Technik angetan. Wegen eines Sehfehlers konnte er nie Pilot werden, hat aber den Traum der Fliegerei nie aus den Augen verloren.
Nachdem das Simulatoren-Center in Dübendorf in den letzten 20 Jahren schon über ein halbes Dutzend Simulatoren aus alten Kampfjets und Linienfliegern gebaut hatte, wollte es Markus Lang vor vier Jahren nochmals wirklich wissen: Nun müsste ein Simulator aus einem alten Jumbo-Cockpit gebaut werden. So machte sich das Simulatoren-Team in der Freizeit daran, ein geeignetes Cockpit zu finden. Eine ziemliche Herkules-Aufgabe, wie sich mit der Zeit herausstellte. Nach jahrelanger Suche fanden sie eine passende Maschine in England.

I found these fascinating interviews while surfing the web. 60 some odd interview films in all, on various subjects related to Dr. Migeod's career as a Stuka pilot in WW2. I thought, "Wouldn't it be nice if someone would splice them all together in order so you could sit back without all that clicking and enjoy." So I did.
Here is the original interviewers description. All the work was his:
"I performed this interview at Dr Migeod's house on 31 May 2010 in Somerset West South Africa. Dr Migeod is 92 years old and was a Luftwaffe stuka pilot who saw service in France, BOB, Balkans, Crete and Africa."

One of the most successful fighter pilots, he was nicknamed the "Star of Africa". Marseille claimed all but seven of his "official" 158 victories against the British Commonwealth's Desert Air Force over North Africa, flying the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter for his entire combat career. No other pilot claimed as many Western Allied aircraft as Marseille.
Marseille, of French Huguenot ancestry, joined the Luftwaffe in 1938. At the age of 20 he graduated from one of the Luftwaffe's fighter pilot schools just in time to participate in the Battle of Britain, without notable success. A charming person, he had such a busy night life that sometimes he was too tired to be allowed to fly the next morning. As a result, he was transferred to another unit, which relocated to North Africa in April 1941.
