Episode 1: "Wheel to the Stars"

Jacob Wheeler (Matthew Settle) leaves his dull life behind to strike out west, while Loved By the Buffalo (Joseph M. Marshall III) faces his destiny to try to fight a prophecy that his people will be wiped out by the settlers.
Jacob marries Loved By the Buffalo's sister Thunder Heart Woman, uniting the two families while around them relations between the two races crumble.
From the pioneering explorations of mountain men in 1825 to the tragic massacre of downtrodden Lakota at Wounded Knee in 1891, these parallel storylines intertwine real and fictional characters and events spanning the period of expansion of the United States in the American frontier… migrating wagon trains, the California Gold Rush, construction of the transcontinental railroad, the violence of Quantrill's Raiders.
Spanning 65 years and several generations, Into the West succeeds as an ambitious compendium of American history. Originally broadcast in the summer of 2005 as a six-part miniseries on TNT.

Miniseries
A miniseries (also mini-series) is a television program that tells a story in a predetermined, limited number of episodes.
History
A miniseries is distinguished from an ongoing television series, which do not usually have a predetermined number of episodes and may continue for several years. Before the term was coined in the USA in the early 1970s, the ongoing episodic form was always called a "serial", just as a novel appearing in episodes in successive editions of magazines or newspapers is called a serial. In Britain, miniseries are often still referred to as serials.
Several commentators have offered more precise definitions of the term. In Halliwell's Television Companion, Leslie Halliwell and Philip Purser argue that miniseries tend to "appear in four to six episodes of various lengths", while Stuart Cunningham in Textual Innovation in the Australian Historical Mini-series defines a miniseries as, "a limited run program of more than two and less than the 13-part season or half season block associated with serial or series programming." Still, with the proliferation of the format in the 1980s and 90s, television films broadcast over even two or three nights were commonly referred to as miniseries.

Limited series (comics)
In the field of comic books, a limited series is a comics series with a predetermined number of issues. A limited series differs from an ongoing series in that the number of issues is determined before production, and it differs from a one shot in that it is composed of multiple issues. The term is often used interchangeably with miniseries (mini-series) and maxiseries (maxi-series), usually depending on the length and number of issues. In Dark Horse Comics' definition of a limited series, "This term primarily applies to a connected series of individual comic books. A limited series refers to a comic book series with a clear beginning, middle and end." Dark Horse Comics and DC Comics refer to limited series of two to eleven issues as miniseries and series of twelve issues or more as maxiseries, but other publishers alternate terms.
Characteristics
The limited series has a single story to tell. It follows the standard plot set-up of beginning, middle, and resolution. Usually, all plot points are covered by the end of the series. There have been limited series done in an anthology format, but only a few of these have been produced.

A telling of American Western exploration begins with a Lakota-tribe holy man (Simon R. Baker) envisioning the white man's arrival. Meanwhile, a young Virginian (Matthew Settle) migrates to California by teaming with a band of mountain men, headed by rugged Jedediah Smith (Josh Brolin).
This series is an epic six-episode tale of the colonization of the American West - told from the perspective of two families, one of white settlers and one of Native Americans. Jacob Wheeler (Matthew Settle) leaves his dull life behind to strike out west, while Loved By the Buffalo (Joseph M. Marshall III) faces his destiny to try to fight a prophecy that his people will be wiped out by the settlers.
Jacob marries Loved By the Buffalo's sister Thunder Heart Woman, uniting the two families while around them relations between the two races crumble.

Episode 1: "Wheel to the Stars"
A telling of American Western exploration begins with a Lakota-tribe holy man (Simon R. Baker) envisioning the white man's arrival. Meanwhile, a young Virginian (Matthew Settle) migrates to California by teaming with a band of mountain men, headed by rugged Jedediah Smith (Josh Brolin).
This series is an epic six-episode tale of the colonization of the American West - told from the perspective of two families, one of white settlers and one of Native Americans. Jacob Wheeler (Matthew Settle) leaves his dull life behind to strike out west, while Loved By the Buffalo (Joseph M. Marshall III) faces his destiny to try to fight a prophecy that his people will be wiped out by the settlers.
Jacob marries Loved By the Buffalo's sister Thunder Heart Woman, uniting the two families while around them relations between the two races crumble.
From the pioneering explorations of mountain men in 1825 to the tragic massacre of downtrodden Lakota at Wounded Knee in 1891, these parallel storylines intertwine real and fictional characters and events spanning the period of expansion of the United States in the American frontier… migrating wagon trains, the California Gold Rush, construction of the transcontinental railroad, the violence of Quantrill's Raiders.
Spanning 65 years and several generations, Into the West succeeds as an ambitious compendium of American history. Originally broadcast in the summer of 2005 as a six-part miniseries on TNT.

A miniseries (also mini-series) is a television program that tells a story in a predetermined, limited number of episodes.
History
A miniseries is distinguished from an ongoing television series, which do not usually have a predetermined number of episodes and may continue for several years. Before the term was coined in the USA in the early 1970s, the ongoing episodic form was always called a "serial", just as a novel appearing in episodes in successive editions of magazines or newspapers is called a serial. In Britain, miniseries are often still referred to as serials.
Several commentators have offered more precise definitions of the term. In Halliwell's Television Companion, Leslie Halliwell and Philip Purser argue that miniseries tend to "appear in four to six episodes of various lengths", while Stuart Cunningham in Textual Innovation in the Australian Historical Mini-series defines a miniseries as, "a limited run program of more than two and less than the 13-part season or half season block associated with serial or series programming." Still, with the proliferation of the format in the 1980s and 90s, television films broadcast over even two or three nights were commonly referred to as miniseries.
