Explainer: The War in Yemen Explained in 3 minutes
Yemen has been facing its worst humanitarian crisis in decades. Thousands of people have been killed and millions have been displaced after Saudi Arabia launched a military offensive in 2015.
The poorest country in the Arab world has become a playground for regional and international powers.
Saudi Arabia considers Houthi rebels, who control vast swathes of the country, an Iranian ally and a direct threat to their security.
Three years into the war, the country has been devastated and civilians are bearing the brunt of the war.
About 17 million Yemenis will face famine if humanitarian aid does not reach them soon.

The Black Stone is seen through a portal in the Kaaba
The Black Stone (Arabic: ٱلْحَجَرُ ٱلْأَسْوَد, al-Ḥajaru al-Aswad, 'Black Stone') is a rock set into the eastern corner of the Kaaba, the ancient building in the center of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The stone was venerated at the Kaaba in pre-Islamic pagan times. Hollywood is a neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California. Its name has come to be a shorthand reference for the U.S. film industry and the people associated with it. Many of its studios such as Disney, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., and Universal Pictures were founded there; Paramount still has its studios there.
Hollywood was incorporated as a municipality in 1903.[2][3] It was consolidated with the city of Los Angeles in 1910, and soon thereafter a prominent film industry emerged, eventually becoming the most recognizable in the world.

For the waltz composed by Johann Strauss, see Tausend und eine Nacht.
One Thousand and One Nights (Arabic: كتاب ألف ليلة وليلة Kitāb 'alf layla wa-layla; Persian: هزار و یک شب Hezār-o yek šab) is a collection of folk tales and other stories. It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights, from the first English language edition (1706), which rendered the title as The Arabian Nights' Entertainment.
***
This lush anthology of erotic tales was filmed in four countries (Iran, Nepal, Yemen, and Eritrea) over a period of more than two years. Completing the literary cycle begun by Pier Pasolini in Il Decamerone and I Racconti di Canterbury, this one is perhaps the most controversial of the lot, engendering reactions from admiration to dismissal. The connecting story deals with Aziz (Ninetto Davoli), a prince searching for his slave girl (Ines Pellegrini), who has been kidnapped, only to become ruler of a village. Aziz's quest takes him to the ends of his known world, where he listens to several stories of carnality and betrayal. The exact number of stories depends on the version, because negative reaction at initial screenings caused Pasolini to cut the film from 155 minutes to 130, with other available prints running 98, 110, and 128 minutes. It is also popular among the Hadhrami peoplein the Malabar region of Kerala, Bhatkal of Karnataka, as well as Barkas and areas around Hyderabad, India.
Mandi is usually made from rice, meat (lamb, camel, goat or chicken), and a mixture of spices called Baharat native to the region. The meat used is usually a young and small sized lamb to enhance the taste further.
The main technique which differentiates Mandi from other meat dishes is that the meat is cooked in the tandoor (tabooninArabic), which is a special kind of oven which is usually a pit dug up in the ground and covered with clay all around its sides.[2]
Mandi is considered the stable dish served during special events, such as Eid, weddings, and feasts in Yemen and the south of the Saudi Arabia.

It is revered by Muslims as an Islamic relic which, according to Muslim tradition, dates back to the time of Adam and Eve.
The stone was venerated at the Kaaba in pre-Islamic pagan times. According to Islamic tradition, it was set intact into the Kaaba's wall by the Islamic prophet Muhammad in 605 CE, five years before his first revelation. Since then it has been broken into fragments and is now cemented into a silver frame in the side of the Kaaba. Its physical appearance is that of a fragmented dark rock, polished smooth by the hands of pilgrims. Islamic tradition holds that it fell from heaven as a guide for Adam and Eve to build an altar. It has often been described as a meteorite.
The Black Stone of Kaaba
Muslim pilgrims circle the Kaaba as a part of the tawaf ritual during the hajj and many try to stop to kiss the Black Stone, emulating the kiss that Islamic tradition records that it received from Muhammad. Muslims do not worship the Black Stone.
The Black Stone was originally a single piece of rock but today consists of several pieces that have been cemented together. They are surrounded by a silver frame which is fastened by silver nails to the Kaaba's outer wall. The fragments are themselves made up of smaller pieces which have been combined to form the seven or eight fragments visible today. The Stone's exposed face measures about 20 centimetres by 16 centimetres Its original size is unclear and the recorded dimensions have changed considerably over time, as the pieces have been rearranged in their cement matrix on several occasions.[2] In the 10th century, an observer described the Black Stone as being one cubit (46 cm or 18 in) long. By the early 17th century, it was recorded as measuring 140 by 122 cm. According to Ali Bey in the 18th century, it was described as 110 cm
The Black Stone is attached to the east corner of the Kaaba, known as al-Rukn al-Aswad (the 'Corner of the Black Stone').[8] Another stone, known as the Hajar as-Sa’adah ('Stone of Felicity') is set into the Kaaba's opposite corner, al-Rukn al-Yamani (the 'Yemeni Corner'), at a somewhat lower height than the Black Stone.[9] The choice of the east corner may have had ritual significance; it faces the rain-bringing east wind (al-qabul) and the direction from which Canopus rises.
The silver frame around the Black Stone and the black kiswah or cloth enveloping the Kaaba were for centuries maintained by the Ottoman Sultans in their role as Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The frames wore out over time due to the constant handling by pilgrims and were periodically replaced. Worn-out frames were brought back to Istanbul, where they are still kept as part of the sacred relics in the Topkapı Palace.
The Black Stone was described by European travellers to Arabia in the 19th- and early-20th centuries, who visited the Kaaba disguised as pilgrims. Swiss traveller Johann Ludwig Burckhardt visited Mecca in 1814, and provided a detailed description in his 1829 book Travels in Arabia:

"Cation" and "Anion" redirect here. For the particle physics/quantum computing concept, see Anyon. For other uses, see Ion (disambiguation).
Since the electric charge on a proton is equal in magnitude to the charge on an electron, the net electric charge on an ion is equal to the number of protons in the ion minus the number of electrons.
An anion (−) (/ˈæn.aɪ.ən/), from the Greek word ἄνω (ánō), meaning "up",[10] is an ion with more electrons than protons, giving it a net negative charge (since electrons are negatively charged and protons are positively charged).[11]
A cation (+) (/ˈkæt.aɪ.ən/), from the Greek word κάτω (káto), meaning "down",[12] is an ion with fewer electrons than protons, giving it a positive charge.[13]
There are additional names used for ions with multiple charges. For example, an ion with a −2 charge is known as a dianion and an ion with a +2 charge is known as a dication. A zwitterion is a neutral molecule with positive and negative charges at different locations within that molecule.[14]
Cations and anions are measured by their ionic radius and they differ in relative size: "Cations are small, most of them less than 10−10 m (10−8 cm) in radius. But most anions are large, as is the most common Earth anion, oxygen. From this fact it is apparent that most of the space of a crystal is occupied by the anion and that the cations fit into the spaces between them."[15]
A cation has radius less than 0.8 × 10−10 m (0.8 Å) while an anion has radius greater than 1.3 × 10−10 m (1.3 Å).[16]
An ion (/ˈaɪɒn, -ən/)[1] is an atom or molecule that has a net electrical charge. Since the charge of the electron (considered negative by convention) is equal and opposite to that of the proton (considered positive by convention), the net charge of an ion is non-zero due to its total number of electrons being unequal to its total number of protons. A cation is a positively charged ion, with fewer electrons than protons, while an anion is negatively charged, with more electrons than protons. Because of their opposite electric charges, cations and anions attract each other and readily form ionic compounds.
Ions consisting of only a single atom are termed atomic or monatomic ions, while two or more atoms form molecular ions or polyatomic ions. In the case of physical ionization in a medium, such as a gas, "ion pairs" are created by ion collisions, where each generated pair consists of a free electron and a positive ion.[2] Ions are also created by chemical interactions, such as the dissolution of a salt in liquids, or by other means, such as passing a direct current through a conducting solution, dissolving an anode via ionization.

The author of the AK-47 assault rifle, Mikhail Kalashnikov, wrote a letter to Patriarch Kirill a year and a half before his death, expressing regret over the creation of the world's most famous firearm. The Moscow Patriarchate told the BBC they had already written a reply to the Kalashnikov. The letter was published in the Izvestia newspaper. According to journalists, the letter was delivered by a person close to the designer. The letter was typed on a computer and signed by Mikhail Kalashnikov. According to Denis Telmanov, a correspondent for the Izvestia newspaper, the letter may have been written in the language of a priest who visited the Kalashnikov. In the letter, Kalashnikov described himself as an Orthodox Christian, described the AK-47 as a strange weapon, and said that Americans during the Cold War were friends of Soviet citizens. Kalashnikov has said several times in his ian. I have a share in this… Even if the dead are my enemies… stay? " Kalashnikov writes about how he became a believer with s, and how he resisted the museum to be built in his honor and agreed to rebuild the Church of St. Michael in Izhevsk, which was destroyed in the 1930s. Pride of the Soviets The Kalashnikov assault rifle was created in 1947 and is one popular inventions of the twentieth century. The machine gun has become the most widely used weapon in the world and is now used by the armed forces of more than 100 countries. n the battlefields of
Angola, Vietnam,
Algeria and Afghanistan. Palestinian groups also use Kalashnikov assault rifles, which were also used by Osama bin Laden. The weapon is relatively simple, inexpensive, and reliable and easy to use on the battlefield. Mikhail Kalashnikov was born on November 10, 1919, in the village of Kurya in the Altai Krai. He was one of 18 children in the family. Only six of the children survived. The Kalashnikov was drafted into the Red Army in 1938, and his creativity was used to increase the efficiency of weapons and equipment used in Soviet tanks. In October 1941, the tank he was driving was hit by a German shell and wounded. After that, he invented the firearm, which made his name famous. At a military hospital, one of his comrades asked why the Russian army did not have weapons similar to those of the German army. "So I invented a submachine gun for a soldier. It was called a Kalashnikov assault rifle," said Mikhail Kalashnikov himself. The new weapon began to be used by the Soviet armed forces in 1949 and was awarded the Stalin Prize. It was just one of the prizes Kalashnikov received. Later, Mikhail Kalashnikov was awarded a number of prizes, including the Order of Lenin and the Hero of Socialist Labor. In 1987, Mikhail Kalashnikov was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen" of the Republic of Udmurtia. On his 75th birthday, President Yeltsin awarded him the title of Major General.

Country of origin Yemen[1]
Introduced 15th century
Color Black, dark brown, light brown, beige
Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, the seeds of berries from certain Coffea species. When coffee berries turn from green to bright red in color – indicating ripeness – they are picked, processed, and dried.[2] Dried coffee seeds (referred to as "beans") are roasted to varying degrees, depending on the desired flavor. Roasted beans are ground and then brewed with near-boiling water to produce the beverage known as coffee.
Coffee is darkly colored, bitter, slightly acidic and has a stimulating effect in humans, primarily due to its caffeine content.[3] It is one of the most popular drinks in the world,[4] and can be prepared and presented in a variety of ways (e.g., espresso, French press, caffè latte). It is usually served hot, although iced coffee is common.
Clinical research indicates that moderate coffee consumption is benign or mildly beneficial as a stimulant in healthy adults, with continuing research on whether long-term consumption reduces the risk of some diseases, although some of the long-term studies are of questionable credibility.[5]
The earliest credible evidence of coffee-drinking as the modern beverage appears in modern-day Yemen in southern Arabia in the middle of the 15th century in Sufi shrines where coffee seeds were first roasted and brewed in a manner similar to how it is now prepared for drinking.[1] The Yemenis procured the coffee beans from the Ethiopian Highlands and began cultivation. By the 16th century, the drink had reached the rest of the Middle East and North Africa, later spreading to Europe.
The two most commonly grown coffee bean types are C. arabica and C. robusta. Coffee plants are now cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of the Americas, Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Africa. As of 2018, Brazil was the leading grower of coffee beans, producing 35% of the world total.[6] Coffee is a major export commodity as the leading legal agricultural export for numerous countries.[7] It is one of the most valuable commodities exported by developing countries. Green, unroasted coffee is one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world.[8] The way developed countries trade coffee with developing nations has been criticised, as well as the impact on the environment with regards to the clearing of land for coffee-growing and water use. Consequently, the markets for fair trade and organic
