The Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones will miss the rest of the autumn internationals after suffering an injury to his left shoulder which forced him from the field in the 18th minute against New Zealand on Saturday. It is the same shoulder that the record-breaking lock injured before the British & Irish Lions tour in the summer, only to make a near-miraculous return for the Test series.

Jones, 36, requires surgery, putting his availability for the Six Nations, which start in February, in doubt. The flanker Ross Moriarty also needs an operation after injuring a shoulder against the All Blacks and both will need “an estimated recovery period of a number of months,” according to the Welsh Rugby Union.
