HIV & AIDS - signs, symptoms, transmission, causes & pathology
What are HIV & AIDS? HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus, is a type of virus that infects human immune cells. Over time, immune cells are lost, which weakens the immune system and allows patients to be infected by other viruses and develop several types of tumors. Find more videos at http://osms.it/more.

Why it’s so hard to cure HIV/AIDS - Janet Iwasa
View full lesson: https://ed.ted.com/lessons/why-it-s-so-hard-to-cure-hiv-aids-janet-iwasa
In 2008, something incredible happened: a man was cured of HIV. In over 70 million HIV cases, this was a first, and, so far, a last, and we don’t yet understand exactly how he was cured. But if we can cure people of various diseases, like malaria and hepatitis C, why can’t we cure HIV? Janet Iwasa examines the specific traits of the HIV virus that make it so difficult to cure.

Immunology wars: The battle with HIV
HIV pushes the immune system to its limits. Our body's usual antiviral arsenal is coordinated, in part, by immune cells called Helper T cells. But HIV attacks Helper T cells directly, eventually leading to AIDS. In this animation we show the cellular and molecular mechanisms employed on both sides of the fight, and how antiretroviral drugs can help swing the balance in our favour.

What Is HIV?
HIV is the virus that leads to the development of AIDS. AIDS is a condition where the body's immune or defense system is so weakened that it can't fight off other diseases. You can't tell if someone has HIV just by looking at them. The only way to know if someone has HIV is to get an HIV test. The only way to avoid getting HIV from sex is to not have oral, anal or vaginal sex. Watch the video to learn how to reduce the risk of getting HIV.
