Taliban fighters could be seen in the streets of Khost on Friday, as members of the group urged local residents to return to their normal lives.
Taliban members said that they were there to protect their fellow countrymen and encouraged residents to reopen shops.
"My message to the all people is that open your shops, do your works, they must be assured from us, we are their soldiers," said Taliban member Ahmad Jan.
Some shop owners spoke optimistically of the new government, hoping the new sense of security was long term.
"It is changing day by day because now the people are losing their fears slowly, and the people will learn as the government is new," shop owner Ejazulhaq said.
The Taliban has made promises of greater tolerance and respect for human rights, as well as to not seek revenge against the group's opponents but growing reports from human rights groups and media outlets indicate that it may be carrying out reprisals.
Khost province was formerly the home of the US military base Forward Operating Base Chapman, where the CIA also had a facility.
The recent Taliban offensive followed the announcement in April that the US and other NATO states would be withdrawing their forces from the country. Former president Ashraf Ghani has since fled Afghanistan and the US has evacuated its embassy staff from Kabul, as have many other NATO states.
Prior to the Taliban's seizure of power, China, India, Pakistan, Russia and the US, among other world powers, had been pushing for an end to the conflict in Afghanistan.
The Taliban is designated a terrorist organisation by the UN Security Council. The US meanwhile has not placed it on its Foreign Terrorist Organization list while Russia has designated it a terrorist group since 2003. In July 2021, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow had started 'to establish contacts' with the Taliban seven years earlier to communicate 'concerns' regarding security in the region.

are going to do what they want, by God willing I request from the people to come back in their homes and there is no problem."
SOT, Ahmad Jan, Taliban member (Pashto): "A lot of people have come here, the shops are reopened, and their work system is active, My message to the all people is that open your shops, do your works, they must be assured from us, we are their soldiers, we are their saviours, we are the sons of this nation, we are not allies, we are not foreigners, we are the sons of this nation, these are our brothers and we are their brothers and we will serve them all the time."
SOT, Ghulam Hassan, Shopkeeper (Pashto): "According to the security, thank God it is better security, I have been restarted my work again, the bazaar is secured there is no threats, I demand from the government and the Taliban to announce their government as soon as possible until people starts their works."
SOT, Ejazulhaq, Shopkeeper (Pashto): "The work system is good and it is changing day by day because now the people are losing their fears slowly, and the people will learn as the government is new and the government authorities are okay now."

Khost
Khost or Khowst (Pashto/Persian: خوست) is a city in eastern Afghanistan. The capital of Khost Province is Matoon. Khost is a mountainous region near Pakistan's border with neighboring North Waziristan in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Bannu in Pakistan. The population of Khost City is about 160,000 people and the whole province has around a million. There are various tribes living in Khost. Some of the main tribes are Zadran, Mangal, Zazi, Tani, Gurbaz, Muqbal, and Sabari. The city of Khost has a population of 106,083 (in 2015). it has 6 districts and a total land area of 7,139 Hectares. The total number of dwellings in this city are 11,787.
During the nine-year Soviet war in Afghanistan in the 1980s, the town was besieged from July 1983 to November 1987. Khost Airfield, with its 9,000-foot (2,700 m) runway, served as a base for helicopter operations for the Soviet military.
American forces have used the Khost Airfield since as early as at least January 2007 during the War in Afghanistan (2001–present) that commenced in October 2001.

Human habitation in Afghanistan dates back to the Middle Paleolithic Era, and the country's strategic location along the Silk Road connected it to the cultures of the Middle East and other parts of Asia. Through the ages the land has been home to various peoples and witnessed numerous military campaigns; notably by Alexander the Great, Muslim Arabs, Mongols, British, Soviet Russians, and in the modern-era by Western powers. War in Afghanistan (2001–14)
The War in Afghanistan (or the American war in Afghanistan) is the period in which the United States invaded Afghanistan after the September 11 attacks. Supported initially by close allies, they were later joined by NATO beginning in 2003. It followed the Afghan Civil War's 1996–2001 phase. Its public aims were to dismantle al-Qaeda and to deny it a safe base of operations in Afghanistan by removing the Taliban from power. Key allies, including the United Kingdom, supported the U.S. from the start to the end of the phase. This phase of the War is the longest war in United States history.
In 2001, U.S. President George W. Bush demanded that the Taliban hand over Osama bin Laden and expel al-Qaeda; bin Laden had already been wanted by the United Nations since 1999. The Taliban declined to extradite him unless given what they deemed convincing evidence of his involvement in the 9/11 attacks and declined demands to extradite other terrorism suspects apart from bin Laden. The request was dismissed by the U.S. as a delaying tactic, and on 7 October 2001 it launched Operation Enduring Freedom with the United Kingdom. The two were later joined by other forces, including the Northern Alliance. In December 2001, the United Nations Security Council established the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), to assist the Afghan interim authorities with securing Kabul. At the Bonn Conference in December 2001, Hamid Karzai was selected to head the Afghan Interim Administration, which after a 2002 loya jirga in Kabul became the Afghan Transitional Administration. In the popular elections of 2004, Karzai was elected president of the country, now named the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Afghanis-tan (あふがにすタン, Afuganisu-tan, see note on name below) or Afghanistan is a Japanese yonkoma manga, originally published as a webcomic, by Timaking (ちまきing). It is also the name of the heroine of the manga. The manga is nicknamed Afgan (あふがん, Afugan)
Background
Afghanis-tan illustrates the modern history of Afghanistan and its neighboring countries, starting from the imperialist era in the 19th century, through moe anthropomorphism. The title character, a short and clumsy bishōjo, is a national personification of Afghanistan. Other female characters personify the nearby nations of Central Asia, such as Pakistan and Uzbekistan. Nations that have fought wars in Afghanistan at various times, such as Britain, the Soviet Union and the United States also make appearances. The Taliban government and Al-Qaeda terrorist group are also represented in the comic.
Each yonkoma strip is accompanied by an "Afghan Memo" that explains in prose some of the background and history of the nations depicted. Additional pages give short biographies of the characters.

Taliban fighters could be seen in the streets of Khost on Friday, as members of the group urged local residents to return to their normal lives.
Taliban members said that they were there to protect their fellow countrymen and encouraged residents to reopen shops.
"My message to the all people is that open your shops, do your works, they must be assured from us, we are their soldiers," said Taliban member Ahmad Jan.
Some shop owners spoke optimistically of the new government, hoping the new sense of security was long term.
"It is changing day by day because now the people are losing their fears slowly, and the people will learn as the government is new," shop owner Ejazulhaq said.
The Taliban has made promises of greater tolerance and respect for human rights, as well as to not seek revenge against the group's opponents but growing reports from human rights groups and media outlets indicate that it may be carrying out reprisals.
Khost province was formerly the home of the US military base Forward Operating Base Chapman, where the CIA also had a facility.
The recent Taliban offensive followed the announcement in April that the US and other NATO states would be withdrawing their forces from the country. Former president Ashraf Ghani has since fled Afghanistan and the US has evacuated its embassy staff from Kabul, as have many other NATO states.
Prior to the Taliban's seizure of power, China, India, Pakistan, Russia and the US, among other world powers, had been pushing for an end to the conflict in Afghanistan.
The Taliban is designated a terrorist organisation by the UN Security Council. The US meanwhile has not placed it on its Foreign Terrorist Organization list while Russia has designated it a terrorist group since 2003. In July 2021, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow had started 'to establish contacts' with the Taliban seven years earlier to communicate 'concerns' regarding security in the region.
SOT, Haji Agha, Taliban member (Pashto): "I demand from the people to continue their work, we will serve them, we
are going to do what they want, by God willing I request from the people to come back in their homes and there is no problem."
SOT, Ahmad Jan, Taliban member (Pashto): "A lot of people have come here, the shops are reopened, and their work system is active, My message to the all people is that open your shops, do your works, they must be assured from us, we are their soldiers, we are their saviours, we are the sons of this nation, we are not allies, we are not foreigners, we are the sons of this nation, these are our brothers and we are their brothers and we will serve them all the time."

Taliban fighters could be seen in the streets of Khost on Friday, as members of the group urged local residents to return to their normal lives.
Taliban members said that they were there to protect their fellow countrymen and encouraged residents to reopen shops.
"My message to the all people is that open your shops, do your works, they must be assured from us, we are their soldiers," said Taliban member Ahmad Jan.
Some shop owners spoke optimistically of the new government, hoping the new sense of security was long term.
"It is changing day by day because now the people are losing their fears slowly, and the people will learn as the government is new," shop owner Ejazulhaq said.
The Taliban has made promises of greater tolerance and respect for human rights, as well as to not seek revenge against the group's opponents but growing reports from human rights groups and media outlets indicate that it may be carrying out reprisals.
Khost province was formerly the home of the US military base Forward Operating Base Chapman, where the CIA also had a facility.
The recent Taliban offensive followed the announcement in April that the US and other NATO states would be withdrawing their forces from the country. Former president Ashraf Ghani has since fled Afghanistan and the US has evacuated its embassy staff from Kabul, as have many other NATO states.
Prior to the Taliban's seizure of power, China, India, Pakistan, Russia and the US, among other world powers, had been pushing for an end to the conflict in Afghanistan.
The Taliban is designated a terrorist organisation by the UN Security Council. The US meanwhile has not placed it on its Foreign Terrorist Organization list while Russia has designated it a terrorist group since 2003. In July 2021, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow had started 'to establish contacts' with the Taliban seven years earlier to communicate 'concerns' regarding security in the region.

SOT, Ahmad Jan, Taliban member (Pashto): "A lot of people have come here, the shops are reopened, and their work system is active, My message to the all people is that open your shops, do your works, they must be assured from us, we are their soldiers, we are their saviours, we are the sons of this nation, we are not allies, we are not foreigners, we are the sons of this nation, these are our brothers and we are their brothers and we will serve them all the time."
SOT, Ghulam Hassan, Shopkeeper (Pashto): "According to the security, thank God it is better security, I have been restarted my work again, the bazaar is secured there is no threats, I demand from the government and the Taliban to announce their government as soon as possible until people starts their works."
SOT, Ejazulhaq, Shopkeeper (Pashto): "The work system is good and it is changing day by day because now the people are losing their fears slowly, and the people will learn as the government is new and the government authorities are okay now."

Khost
Khost or Khowst (Pashto/Persian: خوست) is a city in eastern Afghanistan. The capital of Khost Province is Matoon. Khost is a mountainous region near Pakistan's border with neighboring North Waziristan in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Bannu in Pakistan. The population of Khost City is about 160,000 people and the whole province has around a million. There are various tribes living in Khost. Some of the main tribes are Zadran, Mangal, Zazi, Tani, Gurbaz, Muqbal, and Sabari. The city of Khost has a population of 106,083 (in 2015). it has 6 districts and a total land area of 7,139 Hectares. The total number of dwellings in this city are 11,787.
During the nine-year Soviet war in Afghanistan in the 1980s, the town was besieged from July 1983 to November 1987. Khost Airfield, with its 9,000-foot (2,700 m) runway, served as a base for helicopter operations for the Soviet military.
American forces have used the Khost Airfield since as early as at least January 2007 during the War in Afghanistan (2001–present) that commenced in October 2001.
