Priti Patel has implemented a policy whereby citizens of Switzerland or the EEA will no longer be able to enter Britain with their national identity cards. Patel insists that this is for security purposes, without explaining why an identity card is less secure than a passport when it's issued by the same governments. Army tanker drivers are to start delivering fuel to filling stations in the UK. Many have run dry in a deepening supply crisis. The government insists it has a plan to end shortages of fuel and some foods, but admits it could be months before things get back to normal. Critics say Brexit is causing the chaos.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is remaining defiant as he faces a supply chain crisis in the lead up to the Christmas season. In an address to party faithful he said he has a bold plan for a post-COVID recovery. But labor shortages across the UK are bringing logistics to a standstill, and leaving supermarket shelves empty. The army is to be deployed to shore up fuel supplies, after days of panic buying at the pumps.
Hauler David Zacchea points to all the trucks he's had to take off the road. He can't hire enough drivers to run them.
It's part of a wider supply chain crisis gripping the UK. The government says it will offer thousands of temporary visas so that foreign drivers can fill the gap. But business owners say it's like throwing a drop of water on a bonfire.
Driver's unions also say conditions on the job are so poor, it makes keeping staff difficult.
Business is now concerned that logistics for the Christmas season will suffer. Poultry farmers are experiencing labor shortages as well, saying people's Christmas turkeys are under threat.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is trying to promote a sense of calm, saying it was all part of the plan for post-Brexit Britain. But it's doing little to sooth nerves.
Fears of shortages have led to panic buying at petrol stations. Many retailers say fuel levels are critically low.

Great Britain has again threatened the EU with suspending the customs regulations laid down in the Northern Ireland Protocol. In doing so, the UK wants to increase pressure to renegotiate the post-Brexit agreement, and the British government has again threatened to suspend the customs regimes set out in the Northern Ireland Protocol. Brexit Minister David Frost will announce today in his speech at the Tories congress that "the threshold for the application of Article 16" has been reached, said a statement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson's conservative ruling party. The Northern Ireland Protocol is one of the most contentious points in post-Brexit relations between Brussels and London. Frost will warn in his speech that "the protocol is now undermining the Good Friday Agreement and that the threshold for the application of Article 16 has been reached," it said.
Brexit happened on January 31st 2020 when the United Kingdom formally left the institutions of the European Union. And I give you some outside views on it.

United Kingdom withdrawal from the European Union, often shortened to Brexit (short for British exit) is a political aim of some political parties, advocacy groups, and individuals in the United Kingdom (UK) for the country to leave the European Union (EU). In 1975 a referendum was held on the country's membership of the European Economic Community (EEC), a precursor to the EU. The outcome of the vote was that the country continued to be a member of the EEC. More recently the European Union Referendum Act 2015 has been passed to allow for a referendum on the country's membership of the EU, with a vote due to be held before the end of 2017.
History
The United Kingdom joined the EEC, commonly referred to as the Common Market in the UK, on 1 January 1973. This was done under the Conservative government of Edward Heath. The opposition Labour Party, led by Harold Wilson, contested the October 1974 general election with a commitment to renegotiate Britain's terms of membership of the EEC and then hold a referendum on whether to remain in the EEC on the new terms.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is remaining defiant as he faces a supply chain crisis in the lead up to the Christmas season. In an address to party faithful he said he has a bold plan for a post-COVID recovery. But labor shortages across the UK are bringing logistics to a standstill, and leaving supermarket shelves empty. The army is to be deployed to shore up fuel supplies, after days of panic buying at the pumps.
Hauler David Zacchea points to all the trucks he's had to take off the road. He can't hire enough drivers to run them.
It's part of a wider supply chain crisis gripping the UK. The government says it will offer thousands of temporary visas so that foreign drivers can fill the gap. But business owners say it's like throwing a drop of water on a bonfire.
Driver's unions also say conditions on the job are so poor, it makes keeping staff difficult.
Business is now concerned that logistics for the Christmas season will suffer. Poultry farmers are experiencing labor shortages as well, saying people's Christmas turkeys are under threat.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is trying to promote a sense of calm, saying it was all part of the plan for post-Brexit Britain. But it's doing little to sooth nerves.
Fears of shortages have led to panic buying at petrol stations. Many retailers say fuel levels are critically low.

Great Britain has again threatened the EU with suspending the customs regulations laid down in the Northern Ireland Protocol. In doing so, the UK wants to increase pressure to renegotiate the post-Brexit agreement, and the British government has again threatened to suspend the customs regimes set out in the Northern Ireland Protocol. Brexit Minister David Frost will announce today in his speech at the Tories congress that "the threshold for the application of Article 16" has been reached, said a statement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson's conservative ruling party. The Northern Ireland Protocol is one of the most contentious points in post-Brexit relations between Brussels and London. Frost will warn in his speech that "the protocol is now undermining the Good Friday Agreement and that the threshold for the application of Article 16 has been reached," it said.
Brexit happened on January 31st 2020 when the United Kingdom formally left the institutions of the European Union. And I give you some outside views on it.

So the 2021 Tory conference is here, with the unelected Brexit minister, Lord Gormless, David Frost, rewriting history by saying that they always knew that the Brexit deal he and his carer Boris Johnson crafted and negotiated, was never going to be fit for purpose if the EU insisted on actually implementing it. And despite Boris Johnson’s government having also made a complete balls-up of the pandemic response, with one of the highest per capita death rates in the world, opinion polls show this ridiculous government are still ahead. Army tanker drivers are to start delivering fuel to filling stations in the UK. Many have run dry in a deepening supply crisis. The government insists it has a plan to end shortages of fuel and some foods, but admits it could be months before things get back to normal. Critics say Brexit is causing the chaos.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is remaining defiant as he faces a supply chain crisis in the lead up to the Christmas season. In an address to party faithful he said he has a bold plan for a post-COVID recovery. But labor shortages across the UK are bringing logistics to a standstill, and leaving supermarket shelves empty. The army is to be deployed to shore up fuel supplies, after days of panic buying at the pumps.
Hauler David Zacchea points to all the trucks he's had to take off the road. He can't hire enough drivers to run them.
It's part of a wider supply chain crisis gripping the UK. The government says it will offer thousands of temporary visas so that foreign drivers can fill the gap. But business owners say it's like throwing a drop of water on a bonfire.
Driver's unions also say conditions on the job are so poor, it makes keeping staff difficult.
Business is now concerned that logistics for the Christmas season will suffer. Poultry farmers are experiencing labor shortages as well, saying people's Christmas turkeys are under threat.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is trying to promote a sense of calm, saying it was all part of the plan for post-Brexit Britain. But it's doing little to sooth nerves.
Fears of shortages have led to panic buying at petrol stations. Many retailers say fuel levels are critically low.

Great Britain has again threatened the EU with suspending the customs regulations laid down in the Northern Ireland Protocol. In doing so, the UK wants to increase pressure to renegotiate the post-Brexit agreement, and the British government has again threatened to suspend the customs regimes set out in the Northern Ireland Protocol. Brexit Minister David Frost will announce today in his speech at the Tories congress that "the threshold for the application of Article 16" has been reached, said a statement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson's conservative ruling party. The Northern Ireland Protocol is one of the most contentious points in post-Brexit relations between Brussels and London. Frost will warn in his speech that "the protocol is now undermining the Good Friday Agreement and that the threshold for the application of Article 16 has been reached," it said.
Brexit happened on January 31st 2020 when the United Kingdom formally left the institutions of the European Union. And I give you some outside views on it.

United Kingdom withdrawal from the European Union, often shortened to Brexit (short for British exit) is a political aim of some political parties, advocacy groups, and individuals in the United Kingdom (UK) for the country to leave the European Union (EU). In 1975 a referendum was held on the country's membership of the European Economic Community (EEC), a precursor to the EU. The outcome of the vote was that the country continued to be a member of the EEC. More recently the European Union Referendum Act 2015 has been passed to allow for a referendum on the country's membership of the EU, with a vote due to be held before the end of 2017.
History
The United Kingdom joined the EEC, commonly referred to as the Common Market in the UK, on 1 January 1973. This was done under the Conservative government of Edward Heath. The opposition Labour Party, led by Harold Wilson, contested the October 1974 general election with a commitment to renegotiate Britain's terms of membership of the EEC and then hold a referendum on whether to remain in the EEC on the new terms.
