Sharjah (/ˈʃɑË?rdÊ’É™/; Arabic: ٱلشَّارقَة‎ aÅ¡-Å Ä?riqah; Gulf Arabic: aÅ¡-Å¡Ä?rja[1]) is the third largest and third most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, forming part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area. It is located along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula.
Sharjah is the capital of the emirate of the same name. Sharjah shares legal, political, military and economic functions with the other emirates of the UAE within a federal framework, although each emirate has jurisdiction over some functions such as civil law enforcement and provision and upkeep of local facilities. Sharjah has been ruled by the Al Qasimi dynasty since the 18th century.
The city is a centre for culture and industry, and alone contributes 7.4% of the GDP of the United Arab Emirates.[2] The city covers an approximate area of 235 km² and has a population of over 800,000 (2008). The sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in the emirate of Sharjah without possession of an alcohol licence and alcohol is not served in Sharjah hotels, restaurants or other outlets due to the Muslim majority in the area. This has helped Sharjah increase the number of Islamic tourists who visit the country.[3] Sharjah has been officially named as a WHO healthy city.[4] The 2016 edition of QS Best Student Cities ranked Sharjah as the 68th best city in the world to be a university student.[5] Sharjah is regarded as the cultural capital of the UAE,[6] and was the Islamic culture capital in 2014.[7] Sharjah was named World Book Capital for 2019 by UNESCO.[8]

Sharjah is the third largest and third most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, forming part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area.
It is the only emirate that overlooks the coastline on the Persian Gulf to the west and the Gulf of Oman (Indian Ocean) to the East.
Sharjah may be less popular than its counterpart, Dubai, but it has a lot to offer…… From beaches and buildings to malls and museums, the authentic experiences of the region will steal your heart.
Here are the top places to visit in Sharjah:
1) Al Noor Mosque – located on the Khaled lagoon at the Buhaira Corniche. It is of Turkish Ottoman design and was influenced by the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Turkey. It is one of the mosques open to the public in Sharjah, which has over 600 total. Wikipedia
2) Al Buhaira Corniche –is one of the most developed areas of Sharjah, with residential and commercial skyscrapers surrounding Khalid Lake. One of the most scenic and peaceful places to visit in Sharjah. The park provides many facilities such as a jogging track and cycling paths.
3) Al Noor Island – Sharjah's top spot if you're looking for some relaxation
after shopping and exploring the city.
4) Al Majaz Waterfront - hosts various concerts, events
and festivals at different times of the year.
5) Al Qasba - Sharjah's top nighttime destination, plenty of cafés and restaurants edging the canal. It is beautiful to catch the sun set here.
5) Blue Souq (Central Market) – A visually stunning souk, made up of two identical arched buildings with their infamous blue mosaic tiles, right next to the corniche in Sharjah. There are more than 600 shops inside the market.

Plans are underway to roll out a high-speed skypod transport system for passengers and cargo in Sharjah. The suspended transport system, which involves the movement of driverless pods on “strings" – which are a bundle of tensioned steel tracks attached on concrete supports – is being tested at Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park).
The suspended transport system is different from the conventional pulley system of cable cars or aerial trams, which continuously move and circulate around two terminal stations at a speed between 10 to 20 km per hour. Sky pods are connected to high-tensioned steel wire and move back and forth independently.
The uCar (passenger sky pod) that can carry up to four passengers runs on 400-metre test track at SRTI Park at a speed of up to 50km per hour. A longer 2.4km string-rail system will be completed between October to November this year and the driverless hanging electric pod will be tested to run up to 150km per hour.

Emirate of Sharjah
The Emirate of Sharjah (/ˈʃɑË?rdÊ’É™/; Arabic: الشارقة‎ AÅ¡ Å Ä?riqah) is one of the states of the United Arab Emirates. The emirate covers 2,590 square kilometres (1,000 sq mi) and has a population of over 800,000 (2008). The emirate of Sharjah comprises the capital city of Sharjah, after which it is named, and other minor towns and exclaves such as Kalba, Dibba Al-Hisn and Khor Fakkan.
The emirate is a constitutional monarchy. It has been ruled by Sultan bin Mohamed Al-Qasimi since 1972.
History
Human settlement in the area covered by the emirate has existed for over 500,000 years, with significant finds made of early axes and stone tools as well as Copper and Iron Age implements in Al Dhaid, Madam and Faya. Historically the emirate was one of the wealthiest towns in the region.
Around 1727, the Al Qasimi clan took control of Sharjah and declared the polity independent.
The first in a long series of maritime skirmishes between the Al Qasimi and British vessels took place in 1797, when the British-flagged Bassein Snow was seized and released two days later. The cruiser Viper was subsequently attacked off Bushire. A period of great instability followed along the coast, with a number of actions between British and Al Qasimi vessels alongside various changes of leadership and allegiances between the Rulers of Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Sharjah with Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi claiming sovereignty over 'all the Joasmee ports' in 1823, a claim recognised by the British at the time.

Sharjah aims to become the first city to roll-out high-speed skypod transport
Plans are underway to roll out a high-speed skypod transport system for passengers and cargo in Sharjah. The suspended transport system, which involves the movement of driverless pods on “strings" – which are a bundle of tensioned steel tracks attached on concrete supports – is being tested at Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park). The suspended transport system is different from the conventional pulley system of cable cars or aerial trams, which continuously move and circulate around two terminal stations at a speed between 10 to 20 km per hour. Sky pods are connected to high-tensioned steel wire and move back and forth independently. The uCar (passenger sky pod) that can carry up to four passengers runs on 400-metre test track at SRTI Park at a speed of up to 50km...

Sharjah (/ˈʃɑË?rdÊ’É™/; Arabic: ٱلشَّارقَة‎ aÅ¡-Å Ä?riqah; Gulf Arabic: aÅ¡-Å¡Ä?rja[1]) is the third largest and third most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, forming part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area. It is located along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula.
Sharjah is the capital of the emirate of the same name. Sharjah shares legal, political, military and economic functions with the other emirates of the UAE within a federal framework, although each emirate has jurisdiction over some functions such as civil law enforcement and provision and upkeep of local facilities. Sharjah has been ruled by the Al Qasimi dynasty since the 18th century.
The city is a centre for culture and industry, and alone contributes 7.4% of the GDP of the United Arab Emirates.[2] The city covers an approximate area of 235 km² and has a population of over 800,000 (2008). The sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in the emirate of Sharjah without possession of an alcohol licence and alcohol is not served in Sharjah hotels, restaurants or other outlets due to the Muslim majority in the area. This has helped Sharjah increase the number of Islamic tourists who visit the country.[3] Sharjah has been officially named as a WHO healthy city.[4] The 2016 edition of QS Best Student Cities ranked Sharjah as the 68th best city in the world to be a university student.[5] Sharjah is regarded as the cultural capital of the UAE,[6] and was the Islamic culture capital in 2014.[7] Sharjah was named World Book Capital for 2019 by UNESCO.[8]

3) Al Noor Island – Sharjah's top spot if you're looking for some relaxation
after shopping and exploring the city.
4) Al Majaz Waterfront - hosts various concerts, events
and festivals at different times of the year.
5) Al Qasba - Sharjah's top nighttime destination, plenty of cafés and restaurants edging the canal. It is beautiful to catch the sun set here.
5) Blue Souq (Central Market) – A visually stunning souk, made up of two identical arched buildings with their infamous blue mosaic tiles, right next to the corniche in Sharjah. There are more than 600 shops inside the market.

Plans are underway to roll out a high-speed skypod transport system for passengers and cargo in Sharjah. The suspended transport system, which involves the movement of driverless pods on “strings" – which are a bundle of tensioned steel tracks attached on concrete supports – is being tested at Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park).
The suspended transport system is different from the conventional pulley system of cable cars or aerial trams, which continuously move and circulate around two terminal stations at a speed between 10 to 20 km per hour. Sky pods are connected to high-tensioned steel wire and move back and forth independently.
The uCar (passenger sky pod) that can carry up to four passengers runs on 400-metre test track at SRTI Park at a speed of up to 50km per hour. A longer 2.4km string-rail system will be completed between October to November this year and the driverless hanging electric pod will be tested to run up to 150km per hour.

Sharjah (/ˈʃɑË?rdÊ’É™/; Arabic: ٱلشَّارقَة‎ aÅ¡-Å Ä?riqah; Gulf Arabic: aÅ¡-Å¡Ä?rja[1]) is the third largest and third most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, forming part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area. It is located along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula.
Sharjah is the capital of the emirate of the same name. Sharjah shares legal, political, military and economic functions with the other emirates of the UAE within a federal framework, although each emirate has jurisdiction over some functions such as civil law enforcement and provision and upkeep of local facilities. Sharjah has been ruled by the Al Qasimi dynasty since the 18th century.
The city is a centre for culture and industry, and alone contributes 7.4% of the GDP of the United Arab Emirates.[2] The city covers an approximate area of 235 km² and has a population of over 800,000 (2008). The sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in the emirate of Sharjah without possession of an alcohol licence and alcohol is not served in Sharjah hotels, restaurants or other outlets due to the Muslim majority in the area. This has helped Sharjah increase the number of Islamic tourists who visit the country.[3] Sharjah has been officially named as a WHO healthy city.[4] The 2016 edition of QS Best Student Cities ranked Sharjah as the 68th best city in the world to be a university student.[5] Sharjah is regarded as the cultural capital of the UAE,[6] and was the Islamic culture capital in 2014.[7] Sharjah was named World Book Capital for 2019 by UNESCO.[8]

It is the only emirate that overlooks the coastline on the Persian Gulf to the west and the Gulf of Oman (Indian Ocean) to the East.
Sharjah may be less popular than its counterpart, Dubai, but it has a lot to offer…… From beaches and buildings to malls and museums, the authentic experiences of the region will steal your heart.
Here are the top places to visit in Sharjah:
1) Al Noor Mosque – located on the Khaled lagoon at the Buhaira Corniche. It is of Turkish Ottoman design and was influenced by the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Turkey. It is one of the mosques open to the public in Sharjah, which has over 600 total. Wikipedia
2) Al Buhaira Corniche –is one of the most developed areas of Sharjah, with residential and commercial skyscrapers surrounding Khalid Lake. One of the most scenic and peaceful places to visit in Sharjah. The park provides many facilities such as a jogging track and cycling paths.
3) Al Noor Island – Sharjah's top spot if you're looking for some relaxation
after shopping and exploring the city.
4) Al Majaz Waterfront - hosts various concerts, events
and festivals at different times of the year.
5) Al Qasba - Sharjah's top nighttime destination, plenty of cafés and restaurants edging the canal. It is beautiful to catch the sun set here.
5) Blue Souq (Central Market) – A visually stunning souk, made up of two identical arched buildings with their infamous blue mosaic tiles, right next to the corniche in Sharjah. There are more than 600 shops inside the market.

Plans are underway to roll out a high-speed skypod transport system for passengers and cargo in Sharjah. The suspended transport system, which involves the movement of driverless pods on “strings" – which are a bundle of tensioned steel tracks attached on concrete supports – is being tested at Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park).
The suspended transport system is different from the conventional pulley system of cable cars or aerial trams, which continuously move and circulate around two terminal stations at a speed between 10 to 20 km per hour. Sky pods are connected to high-tensioned steel wire and move back and forth independently.
The uCar (passenger sky pod) that can carry up to four passengers runs on 400-metre test track at SRTI Park at a speed of up to 50km per hour. A longer 2.4km string-rail system will be completed between October to November this year and the driverless hanging electric pod will be tested to run up to 150km per hour.

Sharjah (/ˈʃɑË?rdÊ’É™/; Arabic: الشارقة‎ aÅ¡-Å Ä?riqah) is the third largest and third most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, forming part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area. It is located along the northern coast of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula.
Sharjah is the capital of the emirate of Sharjah. Sharjah shares legal, political, military and economic functions with the other emirates of the UAE within a federal framework, although each emirate has jurisdiction over some functions such as civil law enforcement and provision and upkeep of local facilities. Sharjah has been ruled by the Al Qasimi dynasty since the 18th century.
The city is a centre for culture and industry, and alone contributes 7.4% of the GDP of the United Arab Emirates. The city covers an approximate area of 235 km² and has a population of over 800,000 (2008). The sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in the emirate of Sharjah without possession of an alcohol licence and alcohol is not served in Sharjah hotels, restaurants or other outlets. This has helped Sharjah increase the number of Islamic tourists who visit the country. Sharjah has been officially named as a WHO healthy city.
