Jeremy Sheffield

Jeremy Sheffield (born 17 March 1966) is a British actor and former professional ballet dancer from Chelmsford, England. He is most noted for his roles in Holby City and Murder in Suburbia on television, as well as in the films Creep and The Wedding Date. He played Patrick Blake in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks.

Life and career

Sheffield was born in Chelmsford, Essex. The second son of Brenda (née Dare) and Barry Sheffield, Sheffield trained as a ballet dancer at the Royal Ballet School, graduating into the Royal Ballet, and also dancing with Northern Ballet Theatre. Roles with the Royal Ballet included Aria in The Spirit of Fugue, Paris in Romeo and Juliet, Benno in Swan Lake, He in My Brother, My Sisters, Wilfred in Giselle, Rakitin in A Month in the Country and Mouse King in The Nutcracker.

He appeared as a dancer in Queen's music video for "I Want to Break Free" in 1984, performing in a pastiche of the ballet L'après-midi d'un faune. However, his ballet career ended at the age of 27 due to a broken toe and torn ligament. He had a prominent (non dancing) music video role several years later when he played the male lead in the video for Natalie Imbruglia's debut single "Torn" in 1997.

Safe Haven is a 2013 American romance film starring Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel and Cobie Smulders. It was released theatrically in North America on February 14, 2013. The film was directed by Lasse Hallström, and is an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' 2010 novel of the same name. The film was originally set for a February 8 release, but was moved to February 14, 2013. The film was widely panned by critics, but was nonetheless financially successful with a worldwide gross of $97.6 million against its $28 million budget.

Plot

A woman leaves her house in Boston holding a bloody knife. She is shown moments later at the bus station trying to flee town. She buys a bus ticket with her hair now cropped and bleached and stops in the small town of Southport, North Carolina. At the general store, she introduces herself as Katie. After acquiring a job as a waitress and renting a small house on the edge of town, Katie Feldman (Julianne Hough) befriends her neighbor, Jo (Cobie Smulders) and meets Alex Wheatley (Josh Duhamel), a widowed father of two young children, Josh (Noah Lomax) and Lexie (Mimi Kirkland).

Plot

Erin has recently arrived in Southport, North Carolina. She comes to Southport to get away from her abusive alcoholic husband, Kevin. She takes on a different identity and changes her name to Katie. In her new home town she works at a seafood restaurant, she becomes friends with her neighbor, Jo, and she gets to know the town's general store owner, Alex.

Katie develops a routine with work, talking with her neighbor, Jo, and shopping at the store where she interacts with Alex. Alex is a widower with two children, Josh and Kristen. Katie is interested in Alex and likes his two kids. Alex and Katie's attraction moves from friendship to romance as they interact with each other and as Katie's neighbor, Jo encourages the relationship. Alex's former job had trained him to recognize signs of an abuse victim. As they develop their relationship Katie reveals her past to Alex including telling him her real name is Erin. Alex wants to know why she didn't go to the police and Katie told him her husband, Kevin is a police detective. Katie fled from the abuse of her alcoholic husband, Kevin because she knew he would kill her if he located her. She took on the identity of their neighbor's dead daughter who resembled her.

Sheffield

Sheffield (ⁱ/ˈʃɛfiːld/) is a city and metropolitan borough in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, its name derives from the River Sheaf, which runs through the city. With some of its southern suburbs annexed from Derbyshire, the city has grown from its largely industrial roots to encompass a wider economic base. The population of the City of Sheffield is 563,749 (mid-2014 est.) and it is one of the eight largest regional English cities that make up the Core Cities Group. During the 19th century, Sheffield gained an international reputation for steel production. Many innovations were developed locally, including crucible and stainless steel, fuelling an almost tenfold increase in the population in the Industrial Revolution. Sheffield received its municipal charter in 1843, becoming the City of Sheffield in 1893. International competition in iron and steel caused a decline in traditional local industries in the 1970s and 1980s, coinciding with the collapse of coal mining in the area.

Sheffield (European Parliament constituency)

Sheffield was a European Parliament constituency covering the City of Sheffield and parts of Derbyshire in England.

Prior to its uniform adoption of proportional representation in 1999, the United Kingdom used first-past-the-post for the European elections in England, Scotland and Wales. The European Parliament constituencies used under that system were smaller than the later regional constituencies and only had one Member of the European Parliament each.

When the constituency was created in 1979, it consisted of the Westminster Parliament constituencies of Chesterfield, Derbyshire North East, Sheffield Attercliffe, Sheffield Brightside, Sheffield Hallam, Sheffield Heeley, Sheffield Hillsborough and Sheffield Park. In 1984, Park was replaced by Sheffield Central, and the boundaries of the other constituencies changed. Larger changes occurred in 1994, when the Derbyshire constituencies were removed to Nottinghamshire North and Chesterfield and replaced by Barnsley West and Penistone.
