Seattle University

Seattle University (SU), commonly referred to as Seattle U, is a Jesuit Catholic university in the northwestern United States, located in the First Hill neighborhood of Seattle, Washington.

SU is the largest independent university in the Northwest US, with over 7,500 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs within eight schools, and is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. In its "Best Colleges 2015" edition, U.S. News & World Report ranked Seattle University the 5th best school in the West, in a category for institutions that offer a full range of programs up to master's degree and some doctoral programs. Seattle University School of Law has the #1 legal writing program in the nation, a rank held for six consecutive years. In 2014, Bloomberg Businessweek ranked Seattle University #1 in the nation for macroeconomics.

Among all colleges nationally, Seattle University graduates, with a degree in either the Liberal Arts or Sciences, are the 10th highest paid in the country.

Seattle

Seattle (ⁱ/siˈætəl/) is a West Coast seaport city and the seat of King County. With an estimated 662,400 residents as of 2015, Seattle is the largest city in both the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest region of North America. In July 2013 it was the fastest-growing major city in the United States, and remained in the top five in May 2015 with an annual growth rate of 2.1%. The Seattle metropolitan area of around 3.6 million inhabitants is the 15th largest metropolitan area in the United States. The city is situated on an isthmus between Puget Sound (an inlet of the Pacific Ocean) and Lake Washington, about 100 miles (160 km) south of the Canada–United States border. A major gateway for trade with Asia, Seattle is the third largest port in North America in terms of container handling as of 2015.

The Seattle area was previously inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before the first permanent European settlers.Arthur A. Denny and his group of travelers, subsequently known as the Denny Party, arrived from Illinois via Portland, Oregon on the schooner Exact at Alki Point on November 13, 1851. The settlement was moved to the eastern shore of Elliott Bay and named "Seattle" in 1852, after Chief Si'ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes.

Seattle (song)

"Seattle" is a song, which was composed by Hugo Montenegro and whose lyrics were written by Jack Keller and Ernie Sheldon, which was used as the theme for the 1968-70 ABC-TV U.S. television show Here Come the Brides, which was situated in 19th-Century Seattle, Washington.

Performances

Late in the show's first season, singer Perry Como recorded a version of the song, which became a Top 40 hit for him on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts in early 1969. One of the stars of Here Come the Brides, pop singer Bobby Sherman, also recorded a version of the song, but his version was never released as a single.

Two different versions were used as the theme for the television series, for both of which Montenegro conducted an in-studio orchestra: the first was instrumental; and the second was vocal, with its lyrics being sung by a musical team called "The New Establishment."

"Seattle" is sung by the Seattle Sounders FC's supporter groups, during matches, specifically at the kickoff of each half.

Seattle was Perry Como's 17th 12" long-play album released by RCA Records.

Seattle was Perry Como's first attempt at a contemporary 60's sound. The album's opening track, "Happiness Comes, Happiness Goes" features distorted guitars and swirling organs.
