Tampa Bay is a large, natural harbor and estuary along the Gulf of Mexico on the west central coast of Florida, comprising Hillsborough Bay, Old Tampa Bay, Middle Tampa Bay, and Lower Tampa Bay.
Approximately 6,000 years ago, Tampa Bay formed as a brackish drowned river valley typeestuary with a wide mouth connecting it to the Gulf of Mexico. Prior to that time, it was a large fresh water lake, possibly fed by the Floridan Aquifer through natural springs. Though the exact process of the lake-to-bay transformation is not completely understood, the leading theory is that rising seas levels following the last ice age coupled with the formation of a massive sink hole near the current mouth of the bay created a connection between the lake and the gulf.

Top 10 Ways to Unlock Tampa Bay
Discover Tampa Bay, Florida on your next vacation! Here, we make it easy with the top 10 treasures to discover. Take a look, and use it as a map to plan your Tampa Bay adventure.
1. Take the TECO Line Streetcar System to Historic Ybor City – “Home of the Original Cuban Sandwich,” Ybor City has several places to try the best around, including the Columbia Restaurant and Gaspar’s Grotto. In 2012 the Cuban Sandwich was named the official sandwich of the City of Tampa. While you’re in Ybor, don’t forget to stroll down Seventh Ave. and enjoy a café con leche.
2. Dive with the sharks or swim with the fishes at The Florida Aquarium – A unique opportunity for certified SCUBA divers, age 15 and older, to come face-to-face with live sharks! Dive into the Aquarium's largest tank, the Coral Reef Exhibit, featuring warm clear water teeming with massive sharks, moray eels, barracuda, a green sea turtle and more! Not SCUBA certified? Age six and older can swim with the fishes through a replica of one of the Florida Keys' most beautiful coral reef dive sites.
3. Shop ‘til you drop – Tampa Bay’s transition into high-end retail began in 1998 and has since flourished with the opening of International Plaza (in 2001) further putting the Bay area on the map as a world-class retail market. With over 350 stores between International Plaza and Westshore Plaza, those in search of quality, luxury and high fashion can find the perfect fit in Tampa Bay. Hyde Park Village also offers high-end retailers and boutique shopping in a quaint and historical neighborhood.
4. Ride a roller coaster at Busch Gardens – Take a thrill ride on Cheetah Hunt, the park’s newest mega-attraction and Florida’s first triple-launch coaster that launches riders from 0 to 60 in seconds.
5. Find creativity at the Waterfront Arts District, along the Tampa Riverwalk – Stop at a venue in the waterfront arts district, including Tampa Museum of Art; David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts – the largest arts center in the southeastern U.S.; or the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts to see creativity at its best! While you’re there, don’t forget to experience the Riverwalk, a waterfront walkway along the Hillsborough River where kids can jump in the fountains at Curtis Hixon Park and play in the interactive playground. The 1.5-mile walkway is a great place to ride bikes, rollerblade, take a Segway tour or even just a relaxing stroll.
6. Sit down to a delicious dish or indulge in a sugar high (varies) – Tampa Bay is a culinary experience – delight in creative cuisine at Edison or one-of-a-kind fine dining at Bern’s, the world-famous steakhouse and dessert room, complete with private booths made from old wine casks and a 65-page menu of tantalizing sweets. Also enjoy fresh farm-to-table dishes at Boca and the Refinery, or Great Gatsby-inspired good times at Ciro’s Speakeasy.
7. Visit a farmer’s market for local goods – The Ybor City Saturday Market, Tampa Downtown Market (Sundays), and the Seminole Heights market (Sundays) are great events to purchase locally grown produce, gifts, and enjoy delicious homemade desserts, breads, pastas, and even popsicles.
8. Play golf in Tampa Bay’s 361 days of sunshine – Tampa Bay is the perfect place to tee off! With year-round golf the area offers more than 100 courses to play, from Saddlebrook Resort to TPC Tampa Bay.
9. See Tampa’s Historical Roots – Visit the Tampa Bay Hotel, built in 1891 and a stop along the Plant Railroad System, which brought a lot of visitors and businesses to Tampa Bay over 120 years ago. Home to the University of Tampa since 1933, the hotel is now the Henry B. Plant Museum, named after its founder.
10. Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo – See more than 2,000 animals including manatees, alligators, cheetah, okapi, hippo, hogs, storks and more housed on 56 acres of lush natural habitats!

Family Owned Brimstone Originals with Pepper Based Jellies & The Future of Haiti Organization
#ThatBusinessShow – weekdays at 8am on #1250WHNZ and available anywhere in the world on your iHeart Media app on your smartphone or live on http://www.tampabayradio.com. The show doubled its live viewer audience in both June and July and now averages over 1000 viewers live per show, not counting the radio audience which is not as easy to gauge. If you want to get involved in the show, please email Jamie@tampabayradio.com, I am always looking for content and sponsors!
The show opened up today with a mother/daughter entrepreneurial team based in Largo. Eileen O’Hara and daughter Julie Stevens, Co-Founders/Owners of Brimstone Originals Specialty Foods, joined the show to talk about their family owned pepper based jelly product. Eileen shares a great story on the opening about the formation of the business which resulted ironically enough through a small robbery whereby she picked some habanero peppers from a friends plant and turned them into a Christmas Gift for her husband. After seeing his response and that of friends and other family members, Eileen knew she was on to something. In June 2003, they participated in the first pepper event and highlighted their product and the business took off from there. Julie joined the business shortly thereafter and today their products are found in Costco Warehouses and they are in talks to sell their product in 70 Publix stores across the state and northeast.
Brimstone Originals has 4 pepper jelly flavors with two more on the horizon and they have partnered with a number of businesses including a co-packer that now handles making and distributing the product while they focus on growth and development. They are looking for investment into the company as well and if you are an investor that deals in businesses, then this is a company worth taking a closer look at. Their products are award winning and Eileen was Tampa Bay Business Journal Women of the Year in 2013 and the product won the “I Like It Hot” People’s Choice Award in 2014 and 2015 they won the “Favorite Vendor” award by the People at PepperFest.
The product is all natural and gluten free and currently they are running a promotion for $2 off a jar to $5/jar with just $5 shipping in the continental United States, no limits on orders. Check out http://www.brimstoneoriginals.com for more information and places to find the product and reach out to Eileen or Julie for more information and ways to invest and get involved in this growing company. Eileen@Brimstoneoriginals.com or 727-538-9195 will get you in touch with Eileen!
On the 2nd half of the show, I welcomed Leslie Hobbs, Vice President of the Future of Haiti Organization and Co-Founder Claude Reginald Jean (aka Reggie). Leslie is also a fellow Real Estate professional serving the Tampa Bay area but was focused today on her passion for this non-profit organization that she and Reggie founded together in January 2011. Many people have since forgot of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010 and the impact of the event can still be seen in the Country all over. Reggie speaks on the opening segment that if you were to visit the Country today, you would have thought the earthquake happened just yesterday.
Reggie, who experienced the earthquake first hand, shares his story and along with Leslie, they tell us how he helped shelter 137 children after the earthquake, many of which were orphaned because of the event. His compassion for others inspired Leslie to start this Organization and today the house where he sheltered 137 children now houses 98 children in Port-au-Prince Haiti as a center for orphans and his legacy resonates throughout the Country. There is also a school at the orphanage and their non-profit helps to support these efforts as well as provide humanitarian aid to all those afflicted by the earthquake tragedy in Haiti. Leslie and Reggie need the support of others to make this Organization grow and they encourage all people interested to contact them for donations or just to volunteer. They are holding their annual An Evening in Haiti fundraiser on August 8th at 6pm at the Earthscapes Garden Room located at 816 Alternate US 19 N in Palm Harbor too and cost if $50/person and proceeds go to helping the people of Haiti. To reserve a seat, please RSVP to info@thefutureofhaiti.org and contact Leslie at 727-365-3650 or leslie@futurehaiti.org for more information and visit http://www.futurehaiti.org to learn more

Today’s show focused on Cancer awareness and research. I welcomed in studio. Nancy Crane, Executive Director of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation alongside Dr. Damon Reed. Dr. Reed specializes in Oncology and Hematology and leads the Sunshine Project, a research initiative that runs in conjunction with the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and is responsible for a number of clinical research trials through a network of Oncologists that participate.
The show opened with a discussion of the mission and background of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. The Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding research to eliminate childhood cancer. Headquartered in Tampa, their focus is to find less toxic, more targeted therapies by partnering with leading hospitals nationwide. Through many annual fund-raising events and community outreach, Nancy has helped lead this organization to a top 10 ranking amongst charities in the Country per Charity Navigator and The Foundation was the recipient of the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Non-Profit of the Year Award in the Health and Human Services category. Upcoming events include Brinner of Hope on September 24th, 2015 being held at the Hilton Tampa Downtown which will feature a cocktail hour followed by buffet and entertainment. Also, the 4th annual Cheval Cares 5K Family Fun Run is coming up on September 20th. These are just a couple of the many events sponsored by the Foundation and Nancy encourages people in the community to get involved as a volunteer if they are interested in addition to donating financial resources. These events and many more can be found at http://www.fastercure.org!
Dr. Reed adds a lot of great information on the clinical trials of which he leads and speaks of some promising treatments/drugs on this show as well. The Foundation has its own research lab at the Moffitt Cancer Center and Dr. Reed speaks of that along with a discussion of some of the upcoming trials he is excited about and what to expect from them as well as what is going on in their current trials. Dr. Reed also spoke of the Total Cancer Cure trail which focuses on tissue and blood collection to further personalized medicine for children with cancer. As part of this program, doctors can store and study a patient’s tumor to potentially identify an Achilles heel, which may lead to a type of therapy specific to that child. Studies may lead to a better understanding of what changes cause specific cancers and this trial has proven successful with adult cancer patients, but this is the first time pediatric banking has made available in Florida.
Both Nancy and Dr. Reed encourage you to get involved and help support the Foundation – in addition to volunteering time and financial resources, please help support the Foundation on Social Media on Twitter @pediatriccancer as well as Instagram under the same name, and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/fastercure and learn more at http://www.fastercure.org!
#ThatBusinessShow kicks off week 24 this week and is always looking for new show participants. If you are someone in the community looking to promote their business or organization on the airwaves, please contact Jamie at Jamie@tampabayradio.com for more information. Sponsorship openings are available as well for those who would like to make the show part of their overall marketing plan. Listen live weekdays at 8am on 1250WHNZ or on the iHeart Media app on your smart phone. All shows are broadcast and streamed live at http://www.tampabayradio.com and available On Demand on the site as well.

A dynamic and diverse region, Tampa Bay, Florida, USA enjoys an excellent quality of life. From the waterfront location to the Southern hospitality of its residents, the area takes prides in its vibrancy and welcoming spirit. The only city to be invaded by a band of pirates during the annual Gasparilla celebration, special events and festivals are part of the area’s cultural fabric. From balloon rides, strawberry farms and lush nature to walkable neighborhoods, the region’s character is hard to match. It easily blends its rich, cultural heritage with big-city style. With much to experience, one quickly discovers an exciting, authentic metropolis.
