About sweat and water resistance of AirPods Pro

Learn about sweat and water resistance on your AirPods Pro, and what to do if your AirPods Pro get wet.

Your AirPods Pro are water and sweat resistant, but they are not waterproof or sweatproof.* The wireless charging case is not water or sweat resistant. AirPods Pro aren't designed for use in water sports like swimming, or for showering.

After workouts, heavy sweating, or water splashes and before putting AirPods Pro into the wireless charging case, wipe down your AirPods Pro with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Don't use heat or compressed air to dry your AirPods Pro.

Keep your AirPods Pro safe

Sweat and water resistance aren’t permanent conditions. They might diminish over time, and AirPods Pro can't be rechecked or resealed for sweat and water resistance.

Follow these tips to avoid damage to your AirPods Pro:

  • Don’t place your AirPods Pro under running water, such as a shower or faucet.
  • Don’t swim with or otherwise submerge your AirPods Pro.
  • Don’t put AirPods Pro in the washing machine or dryer.
  • Don’t wear AirPods Pro in a sauna or steam room.
  • Don't expose AirPods Pro to high-velocity water, such as while water skiing.
  • Avoid dropping AirPods Pro or subjecting them to other impacts.

If your AirPods Pro are exposed to liquid through any of the scenarios above:

  • Wipe them clean with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
  • Allow them to completely dry before using them or placing them in the charging case.

Don’t expose AirPods Pro to soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, perfumes, solvents, detergent, acids or acidic foods, insect repellent, sunscreen, oil, or hair dye. All of these can negatively affect water seals and acoustic membranes. If your AirPods Pro are exposed to any of these:

  • Wipe them clean with a cloth slightly dampened with fresh water and dry with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
  • Allow them to completely dry before using them or placing them in the charging case.

* AirPods Pro are sweat and water resistant for non-water sports and exercise. AirPods Pro were tested under controlled laboratory conditions, and have a rating of IPX4 under IEC standard 60529. Sweat and water resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge wet AirPods Pro; refer to the instructions above for cleaning and drying instructions. The charging case is not sweat or water resistant.
